  2. After years of traveling with our Kedron all over Australia, I didn't realise how much you get used to the luxury of a van. Recently we had to make a hurried trip to Queensland. I flew and Paul drove as we knew we would need the car for anything up to six weeks. Having only the day before returned from Europe we had no time to get the van prepared before we urgently had to be in Queensland. On our return trip, I knew I was going to have to go 'camping'. Didn't really realise what this would entail until we got on the road. School holidays and the PGA tour in Kalgoorlie meant that we couldn't get accommodation at some places. We drove past most free camps with our tent in the car, and only used Baxters Rest stop because it had a toilet. I kept looking out the window going we could stop there or there or there. Staying in Broken Hill during 30 hours of rain was not fun, and at 11pm we had to move to a Motel because we were ringing wet. The Kedron doesn't leak I thought. My sister and children are sure that Paul took me camping so I would appreciate the van more. We managed to get three days at Elliston S.A. Only drizzled there, but by now we had learnt a few things on how to cope without 'Q' (our Kedron). Our last night on the road was in Kalgoorlie. Our site was concrete - all concrete so pitching the tent was interesting. Besser bricks may have come into play to hold the tent in place. This time we were smarter, and got an en suite in case it rained, we would have somewhere to run to if this happened. When we got home to Perth I went out and gave the Kedron a cuddle. Hopefully in the future we will be able to get out for some short trips. My dad is coming over for a few months soon, and Paul thinks that at 87 he can go with us and stay in the tent. Stop laughing I haven't found a way to break it to him that dad would probably get our bed and we will be back out in the tent. We will see, we will see.

  3. Hi all, We had a new 23'6 JB Dirt Road Extreme but sold it last year and decided to buy a 2009 21' Kedron ATV-2 instead. Although the weights are similar, it is smaller and will be easier to manoeuvre, as well as being more robust. We will be taking it on its first trip (with us) to Yeppoon in a couple of weeks. Look forward to seeing how it goes.

  4. All going well, we plan to leave here at home in SA on Friday, for our annual migration to warmer places. It has been a much later start this year as we had family related stuff to do here. Our plan is to head North to Alice Springs and then West across the Great Central Road to WA. Our itinerary takes us North up the Oodnadatta Track after a few days around Clare then the Flinders Ranges. We should head off from Yulara on the GCR on 27 June. I think we will stay the night at Curtin Springs before hand. The van's wheel bearings have been greased, the floors washed, bed made, and some food already in the van. I can't wait to enjoy warmer weather! Will we see any of you out and about on these roads?

  5. Hi all, I have a 2011 TopEnder with a shower/toilet combo. The shower mixer tap is starting leak. Before I go and remove the tap I just wanted to know if the mixer tap is a special caravan mixer tap or will I be able to replace or find parts from the local plumbing outlet? Has anyone had to fix or replace the shower mixer tap? Please let me know of any problems removing it or obtaining replacement parts. Thanks in advance Rob

  6. We replaced our shower mixer tap some years ago. Just bought normal one from plumbing show. Haven't had a problem since.

  7. Hi fellow travellers. we are now on the Eyre Peninsula in SA, and off on a trip to WA. So far we have been generally lucky with the weather despite a few hot days. The Eyre Peninsula is a cool area and a good place to be when it’s warm. Anyway, here is our latest report. Stage 1 January Eyre Peninsula.pdf

  8. This morning over here at Port Lincoln we are having new running boards (steps) put on the Landcruiser. It will make getting in and out of the car easier. Let’s be honest, it’s for me, not Val. He has no trouble getting into the car. I find after the Lovells upgrade, which raised the body of the car, it is a pain to haul myself up into the car. When the car door is opened the steps will lower, and when the door is closed they will raise. They are called Clearview Powerboards, and are not cheap. But will be worth it. I saw them on a friend’s vehicle and was super impressed. https://www.clearviewaccessories.com.au/powerboards/

  9. We have had two Kedron Vans both have had two Sirocco fans fitted. I think they are fantastic until they need cleaning. Not sure of what happened to the directions on how to clean them. With the help of Google "Cleaning Sirocco Fans" I found a couple You Tube videos. Suddenly the task of cleaning the fans became a pleasure. If you hate cleaning the fans, do yourself a favour and do what I did and watch the demo. I will no longer have to look at a dirty fan.

  10. It’ll be fine. We had a 2009 ATV2 for 9 years before upgrading to the new AT5. Went everywhere including Gibb River Road, Tanami Track etc. Very happy with it and the great service we received from the Gall Boys 👌

  11. Hi Brian Try Andrew at Award Canvas and Vinyl, 21 High St, Kippa-Ring 0417 700 637. We have had Andrew make various things for 3 vans over many years and regard his quality of work highly. I was going to say "Barry sent me" but he may charge you double!! Not likely. Highly recommended. His last and very recent product was for our XC3, a protective cover for the awning when it is rolled up, for when stored outside. Regards, Barry

  16. Hi Chris. Our panels are not flexible, but rather the fixed units which are on top of the van. They are Victron brand which we got from Trip Tracks (David Bellette). I am not sure about the longevity of the flexible panels. Are they proving satisfactory? (I hasten that I add nothing about them). But I do know it is always good to increase solar wattage and lithium capacity 😆 Chris(tine) PS I can always give you David Bellette's contact details but am not sure if he supplies flexible panels.

  17. I am so completely with you on this. A few times we have taken the camper trailer on short trips. You really are at the mercy of the elements so much more. I love that van. We plan to be in WA next year so might organise something together! Perhaps we should go to Mt Marshall rock together just like old times 😄😄😄

  18. One of my wife’s third graders was wearing a Fitbit watch, which prompted my wife to ask, “Are you tracking your steps?” “No,” said the little girl. “I wear this for Mommy so she can show Daddy when he gets home.” —James Avery I loved the dress that I bought at a flea market. It fit perfectly, and the skirt was a swirl of intricate pleats. I wore it confidently to an evening party and glowed when a woman exclaimed, “Oh, how stunning!” Yes, I was grinning from ear to ear, until she added cheerfully, “Hang on to it, honey. Pleats will come back someday.” —Mary Lou Wickham A customer walked into my clothing shop and asked to see the pants that were advertised in the paper that day. “We don’t have an ad in the paper today,” I told her. She insisted I was wrong, so I got a copy of the paper, and we went through it, eventually landing on an ad for pants from another local store. Exasperated, the customer glared at me and said, “In my newspaper, the ad was for this store!” —Edward Oppenheimer

  19. Hi all, very new to this brand, however ended up here due to purchasing a lesser manufacturers product and lost near on 70k... another story for another time🤬. I'm interested in the method and material used for flooring on earlier (2007 to 2008) Top enders. About to take delivery soon of a single axle 7.7m (overall) 2008 model and curious how well they resist any moisture ingress. Thankyou for any insight😊😊 JC.

  21. Hi Brian , Kedron have only recently stopped replacing damaged front window bra's , I can only suggest that you try a local motor trimmer / upholsterer to replace . They would most likely require the old one as a template.

As you can see (Events - far right shows notification, in financial members area gives details) we have a gathering on the 14th to 17th of July at one of the Kedron Owners Group members private property's at Kilkivan. Since it is only in the financial members area you would have become a member first. Sometimes we do have gatherings for financial and non financial members. Enjoy your Kedron, we have had ours for nine years so far and done many rough/bitumen miles in it.

  25. Hi all, We are thinking of taking the van (Top Ender 21'6") over to Tassie for a few weeks next year in October. We were down there many years ago with only a hire car and remember some of the roads were quite narrow. Has anyone done this trip with the van? Are there many van parks and what about free camping? Have not looked into the cost to get the car and van over there yet, so this might be a decider not to take the van. Regards Rob

  30. I couldn't find a thread on this topic, so here comes my question! I would like to put a sloping privacy screen off the awning on the Compact. They seem to slide into the slot on the awning roll-out cylinder and then are pegged down at the bottom. Research tells me there are a few commercially made ones around - Camec for instance. Any recommendations? We live in Brisbane, so a local supplier would be good. Thanks!

  33. Brittle old red pipe snapped 10cm from entry to van. I need to replace but can't work out where pipe is located IN the van. Are there pipes coming up from underneath behind the water heater (not visible)? Or is it the one under the kitchen bench on same side as filling point?

  35. Thinking of converting the cassette toilet in our 2012 Xcountry 18 footer to a composting unit. Has anyone had any experience? Cheers, Robbo

  37. Thanks for approving our membership. We're currently shopping for a used van. Have not yet decided on a Kedron but is on the shortlist. Just waiting for settlement from insurance as our last van and shed were burnt to a crisp. Will be working through owners observations to learn as much as possible about Kedron vans.

  38. RACQ wouldn't insure our van when we first got it. Must try them this time now that it is 9 years old and see if they will. Usually just go CIL

  39. Hi, webmaster - you might want to put AGM batteries instead of AGM as I thought someone had put one of our business reports here, not you were selling AGM batteries?
    1 point
  40. Yep. As above. Stay longer if at all possible. Tassie is our favourite place on the planet. Couple of small suggestions: If you're thinking of the west coast, which is beautiful, check your rig dimensions and the size limits on the Corinna Ferry - see their website: https://www.corinna.com.au/barge-access-and-times. We can't fit on the ferry with our 18'6" ATV. Secondly, if you're taking the Lyell Highway towards Queenstown, take your time over the steep, windy narrow hill at, I think it's Gormanston. If you've got a UHF, I'd call up and check if there's any heavy vehicles coming over the hill before you proceed. Have a great trip!

  41. Hi everyone, I'm a new member as I'm keen to find out how long the lead time is on building your own custom-build Kedron AT5 caravan? Plus are there any pitfalls to doing so or things to watch out for ?? Would love to hear from anyone that's done that recently. Many thanks.
    1 point
  42. Yes - that's exactly what I meant - how long is the current Kedron lead time for them custom-building a new Kedron AT5 ? And what advice can others provide in going about doing that... M
    1 point
  43. I am going out on a limb here, but I assume you do not really mean “build your own Kedron” but rather, you are asking how long the Kedron factory is currently taking to custom build a van?

  44. Hi Neil. We have our 2012 ATV and 2017 Landcruiser Sahara insured through Ken Tame and Associates. Have been with them about 12 years. They will do ‘agreed’ value as opposed to ‘market’ value. You have to be a member of the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia (CMCA) in order to insure through Ken Tame and Associates. We’ve found them very easy to deal with. We’ve also heard good things about Caravan Insurance Ltd (CIL). As Sandra said, it’s best to shop around. Cheers from Pete.

  45. Depends on what the value of the van. Best to shop around. We have a 2008 XC and both car and van are insured with RACQ. Have made two claims for the van, awning and hail damage and had no problems. Clive and Sandra
