  1. Why do good people waste their time on people who can't be told and why do people ask for advice, but don't want to listen to answers? These questions often puzzle me ???????????? Its a funny world we live in
  2. Hello Tony and Pete, What would you say your average tow speed was? Or what do you cruise at on the black top?
  3. Welcome to the Dark side. It's far more relaxing and enjoyable than that other LC side
  4. Well Colin, Have you forgotten how to spell Landdcruisser yet????
  5. Hello Colin, Have you driven one yet? Please make sure you do your research on the suppliers as there are a couple of dodgy one around and some of the conversions are not as good as others. Feel free to contact me if you want to know more Steve
  6. Yes David, When I first purchased the GM, I thought to myself ..........heated and cooled seats ..............a bit over the top, but now......................... I love it, but not as much as exhaust brakes. They have saved us a couple of times in the slippery mud as you don't have to use your brakes which prevents wheel lock up on wet clay. Its the little things that make it better
  7. Sadly Plastic is playing a greater role in the auto industry at the expense of strength, all of which makes me believe the 4 x 4 market are only interested in making soft roaders. Even the 200 series has lost a lot of strength compared to the 100 series and the 80 series and so on. But they are more refined to drive, that's the sacrifice ..................... unless you get a GMC ...................LOL Cheers
  8. Guys, We manage the store at Beagle Bay and we get to see all the rigs that venture up this way. This season I am astounded at the amount of Chev's, GMC's, F Trucks and Dodge Rams towing the various vans. I think people (even the oldies) are starting to realize the benefits of the bigger/ better tow vehicle especially as the vans are getting bigger and heavier. So I guess not everyone feels threatened by driving the larger vehicle. Cheers
  9. Do you think these issues are caused by working the tow vehicle at its upper limits ??????? Just a thought (cat amongst the pigeons stuff really)
  10. Hello Colin, Pete does make a valid point. It won't fit in most garages. As for the rest .............. well. My GMC is only 36mm wider than my Patrol C/Chassis. You can take it to any licenced mechanic for servicing as it just another V8 diesel 4x4 to them. I use Holden dealers as most the common parts are Holden and so far they have the service manuals. The air, oil and fuel filters are A C Delco and are available anywhere you would normally buy those types of product and I have found them to be a lot cheaper than Toyota and Nissan genuine. As for the turning circle, .....go drive one and I am sure you will be amazed. As for caravan parks, I always ask for a site to suit a 23 foot van, mostly due to the extended draw bar which I did before I bought the GM anyway. You can use top gear to tow without fear of the auto giving out and you can use cruise control with out it dropping out and while the LC may have just enough power to tow the van, it lacks exhaust brakes and the much larger brakes to pull it up in a hurry and the LC is working to its upper limits .... the Chev is not working. Personally it doesn't bother me which way you go, but make a informed decision on facts, not what people think they know. I found that every single person who tried to sway me away from buying my GMC, had NEVER driven one. I can't emphasise enough..................... take one for a drive. Do it right and be legal Cheers
  11. Tolley, That's an F Truck in the picture .......... that's why he is in that situation. If he had a Silverado or better (GMC) , that would have never happened as they will pull Christ off the cross ....... LOL My recommendation is go drive a Silverado, you won't even be able to spell Landcruisserr after that. Cheers Steve
  12. Hi Andrew, At the time of doing the factory tours, we were of the opinion that while the BT looked to be a bit "Dated" compared to the Kedron, the workmanship was far more neater/cleaner and you could see the pride in the product. I don't believe the BT is stronger van or really better than the Kedron, it was just a "Feel Good" thing at the time. I am not saying Kedron lacked these things, it was BT seemed a bit better to us. Now after having our Kedron for 4 years and travelling some pretty crappy roads over this time, also meeting up with and socialising with BT owners as we travel, it seems that BT have a lot of issues themselves as do all brands. But BT's aftersales back up or should I say ....... lack of seems to be a common issue and we are so thankful we went to Kedron. I am not saying Kedron have the "Best" vans as I don't believe there is such a thing. What I am saying is that we are very happy with the product and amazed on the after sales back up and support from Kedron. In saying all this. It is exciting times with some of the new brands entering the "True Off Road" market. Spinifex and SLR vans being true contenders Cheers
  13. When we started researching for caravan to suits our needs we really struggled as we had never owned a van or really knew much about them, which made it difficult. We had done an extensive amount of outback travel and were aware of the conditions we needed the van to survive in. Not previously owning a van made us research a lot more diligently and we annoyed a lot of people with many question, but the hardest thing was to sorting out the real off-roaders to the pretend off-roaders. I do have a personal motto being "Poor people can't afford to buy shit". Having said that we formed a short list of Bushtracker, Pheonix, Trackmaster and Kedron. We then decided that a metal frame suited us better, which halved our list to two, being Bushtracker and Kedron. We then flew to Brisbane and did the factory tours at Kedron and then Bushtracker and decided Bushtracker was the van for us. We sat down and crunched the requirements and the numbers and was about 5 minutes away from paying the deposit .................... then in walked Steve ........ the owner and gave some poor new customer a mouthful of abuse at the counter, claiming that any issues he has with his 2 week old van was his (Customers) fault because nothing ever goes wrong with his vans. Having witnessed that profound event, Kerry and I thanked the salesman for his time and made a quick exit out and headed back to Kedron. We sat down with Stan and went through all the requirements and paid the deposit. We believe that it was "meant to be" that we purchased our Kedron and now have an overwhelming feeling to buy the owner of Busthtracker a carton of beer every year to thank him for making our decision. We have never looked back or regretted it as we find the after sales service and support is 2nd to none.
  14. Well guys, Job done. I believe I got my moneys worth out of that anode. All that was left was a bit of wire and a lot of white S*%t. I now know they don't last 4 years ....................LOL Cheers
  15. Thank you guys, I had better get off my backside and replace mine as the van is 4 years old and I have never replaced it as yet. Thankfully I have a spare as freight would cost me a fortune out here Cheers
  16. Hi Guys, What is the signs to detect if the anode requires replacement?
  17. Hi Pete & Lyn, If you are going to be up in that region in late July, We should be there as we get back the 2nd week of July, so be sure to drop into the Beagle Bay store and say hi. If you happen to be there on a weekend we will be able to show you a round. Cheers Steve & Kez
  18. Hello Pete & Lyn, As It happens, we live at Beagle Bay, so guess there is no better person to answer your questions. The only truly accessible areas to take your van are Banana Wells, Middle lagoon and Chillie Creek. Middle Lagoon is by far the best location as it is smack bang on the edge of the water. The others, you will need to drive to the waters edge. Middle Lagoon is my pick as we spend most weekends there. The owner is Tammy and the manager is Herbie ............... all fantastic people. Cape Leveque (Kooljaman) Resort is also beautiful, however it is overpriced (more than the others) and you cannot take your van there, plus the manager is very grumpy. There used to be a couple of other places to take the van, but have since closed down. While up that way, make sure you go to Cygnet Bay for the King tide boat tour (outgoing tide is best) and make sure you have lunch or dinner there as it is first class food and very fairly priced. Also go for a drive on the beach at Lombadina. It is a stunning beach. There is not a bad place to fish anywhere in the region, but make sure you have 60lb braided line minimum and No 5 or 6 hooks. We dragged the van out of there last week and yes the 90kms of dirt road is crap at the moment, but fine if you take your time and I always travel in and out of there with the van tires around 30psi and don't have a problem. I am sorry we are not there at present to show you around as we are in NT on holidays, but I am sure you will love the place Cheers
  19. Hello Tolley, Please don't forget to say hi to the owners of Farina Stn (Kevin & Anne) for us please. And don't forget where I told you to get Mob Phone service. Cheers Steve & Kerry
  20. We put a piece of foam in between the 2 doors. works perfect for us and we have travelled some bloody dusty roads/tracks. Cheers
  21. Hi Tony & Rhonda, You Can take alcohol along the Gibb River road and into most areas of the Kimberley. You will love the trip, especially since you don't have to rush. Unfortunately you will be driving into Kununarra the same day we drive out but a couple that we will be meeting up with there (Kedron owners Martian and Amanda) on the 10th will also be doing the Gibb and I think they maybe staying a couple of extra nights. Maybe try and meet up with them. They are a great couple and the trip would never be dull. We are on our way to Kakadu and Litchfield and then heading back to Broome and then down to Karagini NP in the Pilbara. In total we will be away for a month. We actually live at Beagle Bay in the Kimberley so if you are still around the area, drop in and say g'day. It is a magnificent part of the world up here and extremely worthy of a week or more visit, especially Middle Lagoon. Cheers Steve
  22. Wise Man, it will do it easy. But you will have trouble keeping to the speed limit as you forget its there, even on the steepest hills Cheers Steve
  23. I have an additional question for those in the know. Are you allowed to have open fires in Kakadu and Litchfield NP's
  24. Well, you guys may laugh, but I assure you that it is true and if the 2nd post is engaged, you will have to wait your turn as the 1st post does not work .......................... but I never tried it for Opus or Vodaphone .....LOL When you get there, you will see for yourselves. Also if you have time to spare, I highly recommend asking Kevin (the owner) about a tag-a-long tour of the property as there is some truly amazing scenery and some quirky bits of nature to see that not many people will every get to see. Cheers
  25. Hello Colin, Since you mentioned the bakery at Farina being opened, while you are there could you tell the owners of Farina Station (Kevin & Anne Dawes) that Steve and Kerry said hello for me please. We were camped there for a couple of night and he offered me a couple of weeks work during muster. 3 months later we finished up. They are fantastic people and they have one of the best camp grounds in SA. I highly recommend staying there, If you walk up to the war memorial and then walk across to the fence line, you will get phone service at the 2nd wooden post (Telstra only) .................. yes I'm serious. Once again ........ Have a fantastic trip Steve
