  1. Hi all our old (and hopefully new) friends in the group. As most of you may know Chris & I have broken our Aussie sojourn and gone abroad to the USA. Wow! what a difference to touring Oz. If anyone wants to follow our trip please check out our Blog. For the more detailed and technical information on Visa's, Vehicles, Travel Trailers, etc. please send me an email and I will try to accommodate. 2. Just one idea I found. I bought one of these Lock Alarms. Loop the cable through your outdoor furniture. If some tries to cut it or break it the 120db siren goes off. It is loud. There are some on Ebay. (I have no interest in the sale of them) http://cgi.ebay.com.au/SOLAR-PANEL-ALARM-L...=item3a612d7098 Rosco
  3. I fitted my own camera. Pretty simple really. The biggest task is trying to hide the cable. There is a special cable available that I bought from a shop that specialises in surveillance equipment. It has an active and neutral as well as a shielded camera feed. Link: http://www.ozspy.com.au/ You only need a power feed and a video feed from your monitor. Do you have any specific questions? Rosco :confused1:
  4. Hi Rod & Mavis, Just wondering, as you know we have a AT35 and it occasionally gives us grief when the truck is on an angle to the van. I just came in from an 800 Km dirt road trip and found the pin was nicely gummed up with greasy dust. Took a bit of elbow grease to pull out. Have you found the McHitch easy to attach and detach, especially when the truck is on an angle with the van? Rosco
  5. Gday Roadrunner, We've towed the van (18'6" XC behind a F250) on Straddy. No problems at all. We let all tyres down to 18PSI and the van and truck "floated" over the sand (even soft sand). I have driven the beach on Morton and, as you would know, you don't get a nice wide beach of hard sand and the sand above the water line is very soft. A 21' TE, in my opinion, will deliver you a challange. I would give it a go on low tide but I would take heaps of recovery equipment and only travel on the falling tide. I now carry Maxtrax, great for sand. Lots of luck, Rosco
  6. Today I replaced the Tekonsha Breakaway switch. To my horrer not only did I find it was not working but on closer inspection I found the internal contacts had completely rusted away. I believe they should have been made of a non-corrosive material. If there is an Australian standard for this important safety device I think this brand would fail. They recommend the switch be replaced every 3 to 5 years. Our van is only 3 years old so I suggest you check the switch regularly. Regards, Rosco
  7. We did make it back. Cost me heaps. Rosco
  8. We were a group of 5 vans travelling the SA desert country. I got chatting to the Auto Elec at Coober Pedy. He spoke of a permenant water hole on the Oodnadatta Track. We found the spot and wet a line. First landed was a big 5Kg Yellowbelly followed by a few 2Kg's then a huge 5.5Kg. See pic. PS: The fly's left us alone at dusk Rosco
  9. I have been asked many times about the benefits of the Diesel heaters. After Mitta Mitta and on a warm sunny day we headed for Mallacoota. This pretty town is located in east Gippsland. Well the weather has turned bad. Cold temperatures, storms, rain. We are van bound. The diesel heater has been working overtime. The van is a constant warm 24 degree and I just had a shower in our hot bathroom and dried off with a dry warm towel. If you are ever considering heading south or travelling in winter a diesel heater should be on top of your options list! Make sure it ducts to your bathroom. Regards, Rosco  PS Thanks Roger for the great gathering at Mitta Mitta.
  10. Fantastic NASA pics. Sound on! http://www.greatdanepro.com/Blue%20Bueaty/index.htm Enjoy, Rosco
  11. To all KOGgers. As most of you know Rosco and Chris are about to hit the black top. To do this we put our home out for holiday rental. We have a 5 bedroom luxury house on the water in the centre of the Gold Coast. As a special deal for the group we will offer a "mates rate" for those wanting a Gold Coast holiday. It is a great house to get the family together for a special occasion. Take a look: http://www.stayz.com.au/33075 Just phone us on 0428 322 221 or Skype rosco1948 Regards, Rosco
  12. SATURDAYS FUNNY Billy Connolly on retirement!!! What do retired people do all day? Working people frequently ask retired people what they do to make their days interesting. Well for example, the other day I went into town and went into a shop. I was only in there for about 5 minutes, when I came out there was a cop writing out a parking ticket. I went up to him and said, 'Come on man, how about giving a senior citizen a f***** break?' He ignored me and continued writing the ticket. I called him a Nazi turd. He glared at me and started writing another ticket for having worn tires. So I called him a s---head. He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first. Then he started writing a third ticket. This went on for about 20 minutes. The more I abused him, the more tickets he wrote. Personally, I didn't care. I came into town by bus. I try to have a little fun each day now that I'm retired. It's important at my age.......... Cheers Rosco

  14. A FOLLOW UP FROM JOHNS POSTING IN THE VITRIFRIGO TOPIC I went through the 3 way vs compressor fridge dillemah when I first ordered my Kedron. I read a lot about it and was still undecided until Dave talked me into th Vitrifrigo. Although I was happy with the compressor fridge i did have a few problems and always wondered if the 3 way was a better option. IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO GET SOME FEEDBACK FROM OWNERS OF THE 3 WAY FRIDGE. I PUT THIS QUESTION TO THE FORUM. DO YOU HAVE PROBLEMS WITH YOUR 3 WAY FRIDGE IN HOT TEMPERATURES (38 DEGREE PLUS)???? AND IF SO WHAT HAPPENED??? ROSCO :confused1: POST IN VITRIFRIGO TOPIC FROM JOHN "When I specified my new Kedron XC at the end of 2006, I had a choice of Electrolux 3 way fridge with one battery and no solar, the Electrolux with one battery and one 130watt Kyocera solar panel or the Vitrigo with THREE batteries and THREE solar panels. I chose the middle option because I have had a good run with Electrolux fridges for 30 years and I didn't want to pay THOUSANDS more for a compressor fridge along with ongoing high battery replacement costs. After a round Australia trip, admittedly in Winter, I now know that I made the right decision. I do have a TROPICAL Electrolux fridge though and the Gall boys fitted it correctly with adequate ventilation. When camped at Ningaloo for a month, it was great not to have to worry about battery capacity! When on the road, the absorption fridges do consume a lot of current and hence voltage drop is inevitable. Keeping the caravan battery fully topped up was not possible when the sky was overcast. Upon arriving home, I found that the culprit was the Toyota Prado D4D alternator settings as dictated by Toyota. This was rectified by a very clever new device called a RanOx battery booster. Now, all is spot on for daily tripping or long term bush camping. The moral of the story is that Electrolux 3 way fridges aren't as bad as some make out when correctly installed. Cheers - John"
  15. Hi Mark & Deb, Weve got the Prodigy. I just read the features of the P3 and they seem similar to the Prodigy but a little more sophisticated. The most important features in my view, are the connection confirmation, the voltage and the boost. The connection confirmation for the peace of mind that your brakes are connected. The voltage gives you an indication of the power going to the brakes and can be adjusted accordingly. The boost levels for when you have extra load or are travelling down hills. Hope this is of some help, Rosco

  17. Our first visit to Stanthorpe saw the temperature plummet to minus 6 overnight. No heating in the van so we turned the oven, gas toaster and grill on. Lucky we wernt asphyxiated but we survived the night. Rosco
  18. YIKES!!!!!!!!!!! Its gunna be cold in Stanthorpe. Time to dust off my old skiing gear. Dont laugh but I've still got my Bell bottom Bib n' braces. Rosco
  19. Thanks Kimbo..., Why didnt you post that earlier. It would have saved me all that one finger typing. Rosco
  20. OK, here goes. 1. MAKE SURE THE HWS IS TURNED OFF AND IS COOL and the pressure pump is off. 2. Open a HW tap to release any pressure. 3. Open the external HWS hatch. You need a 27mm socket or a shifter to fit the large nut on the front/ bottom of the HWS. (This is the anode) 4. Before you unscrew the nut make sure you have some teflon tape and if necessary, a replacement anode. 5. Remove the anode. If the anode is 75% eroded it needs replacing. 50% is still OK. 6. There will be a lot of smelly sludge in the bottem of the tank. If you can, tilt the caravan to the RH side by running it up on some wheel chocks so thAt more water runs out of the heater. Flush out the HWS tank with a hose. 7. Refit the anode and dont forget the teflon tape. 8. While youre there, if you have compressed air, blow out the gas heating chamber as this tends to fill with soot. 9. Turn the pump back on and let the air trapped in the tank out by opening the HW tap. Job done. I hope I didnt forget anything. Regards' Rosco
  21. Hi Pete & Tracey, I had the same Nissan as you, towing an 18'6" XC. I also had the 3" exhaust and an MTQ stage 2 power up. I found it made the world of difference. Nothing worse than chugging up a small hill in 2nd gear and have a huge semi blow you off doing 100K. I ended upgrading to an F250 but the Nissan did the trick. Unfortunately your outnumbered and, as Blackie will attest, you will get heaps from the ToyO's in the group. Regards, Rosco
  22. Blackie, Wots "size 3"? :shades: Rosco
  23. Hi Bruce, I installed 2 rubber mud flaps on the bottom of the stone guard. On our trip to Birdsville I went one step further and connected shade cloth between the stone guard and truck. This worked a treat however the stone guard was not wide enough and stones got through to the edges of the van. You can see the mud build up on the flaps. This would have ended up on the van without them. Sorry, I dont have a more detailed pic. The other pic shows the Rocktamers I bought at the Brisbane Caravan Show this year. My answer is YES. Others would disagree. Rosco
  24. I have just placed a reference to a full length aluminium TJM roof rack in classifieds I am selling through ebay. Check it out if your interested. http://www.kedronownersgroup.com/classifie...p?a=2&b=179 Rosco
  25. Graham and Ros. I think there are one or two others. Its a small group. Regards, Rosco
