  1. Once again welcome to the forum and the Kedron Family!!

Sorry to hear that you are having so many problems with your new van.  I hope that these will all be resolved for you in due course.  The team at Kedron have always been very helpful and they have always fixed any issues we have had.

Please continue to participate on the forum.  Hope we see you at a gathering soon.

  2. Hi Colin

As you know we had our van done as well earlier this year and when the rego was due in September, it came with a certificate of inspection that had to be completed by an authorised inspection station and then included with the paperwork for renewal. This meant we couldn't pay online and had to attend the DMR office.

Hope this info doesn't just relate to you cause you are in FNQ.

  3. Jeez Colin

    Me Too!

But have you seen a photo of her lately? Even worse than we look....

Well it is a changing world and I must admit to a few wrinkles myself. When i was much younger my interests were different, it is amazing how much the (Hi Ho) Chevy has taken my interest these days.... oh dear I am getting old...lol

We are really happy with the Chevy and Colin we are sure you will be as well.

    Cheers

  4. Hi all, It looks like Colin might be joining the growing Chevy clan. Well good onya! I must say we are rapt with ours and wish we had made the change sooner. I can't really add much to the conversation except to say in relation to the length that we always parked the Tojo well away from the maddening crowd so doing the same with the Silverado is no big thing. We are fortunate that it is not our daily driver so the inconvenience when we are on the road does not bother us to much, the towing power well and truly makes up for it.

    Cheers

Ten Kedrons and ten Landcruisers on our trip. This is the Toyota "nothing soft gets in" TVC we spoke about on the trip: http://m.youtube.com...v%3DisC32ev4Lw4

I understand it was made as a joke by their agency, but I saw a short version to air during an AFL final game in 2009 and it was also run once as a print ad in one of the outdoor magazines.

Anyone still out there or are we all home now?

    Andrew

    Hi Andrew & Sal

We have been home for 8 days now and have spent 6 of those trying to get the van clean. Nowhere near where we want it to be yet. Have not even started on the cruiser yet. We have stripped the van of everything that can be removed on the outside and today all the curtains were washed. Need to get as much done as possible over the next week as it goes to Brendale for a service and to have those repairs done. I think Greg has bought every cleaning product known to man in an effort to get it clean. If it had just not rained on that last travel day it would have been a lot easier but as you have also probably discovered it is like trying to remove cement. Even the gurney won't blow it off. Hope you guys are well and all the family things are now sorted.

  6. Hi Everyone

You will probably be thinking this is late notice asking this question, but has any one had any trouble with the foam seal in their vacuum sealer machine? I have had mine for less than 6 months and has done little work but was wanting to get the last of my goodies ready for the biggie. How do i explain my problem - well it is not sucking the air out of the bag so not sealing properly. I am not placing over the hole etc. The foam seal seems to have a low part in one side and the air is escaping. I have contacted primus and they were very good about sending me a new one but by the time it comes from Melbourne (only rang them yesterday) we will be well and truly on our way. We leave here Tuesday morning.

Just wondering if anyone had this same experience and if you had found a quick fix for the short term?

Only 3 sleeps to go now for us!!

  7. Quote - I am currently getting all my containers organised for pantry goods and Greg is going to look at the drawer and door locks as you have suggested.

Cathy, a tip is to try to stick to square containers for easier storage but you may already know this. We like the 'Lock N Lock' plastic airtight containers which are also able to go in microwave. Maybe do up a few pre-prepared cooked meals like a curry and freeze for those days of long travel and you're too tired to cook. :D

As the cutlery drawer can be quite heavy and the inertia build up over bad corregations can shake it loose or cause cutlery rub we put the drawer on the bed and pop it back in once we stop.

    Hi Ann

Yes I have some lock n lock but have ordered more. Have you already done this trip?

    Cathy

  8. Hi Colin and Everyone Else

Thanks for all your suggestions re the corrugated roads. We have not bought another gas bottle but was interested to hear what your thoughts might be on this. I am currently getting all my containers organised for pantry goods and Greg is going to look at the drawer and door locks as you have suggested.

Not too long to go now. We will be leaving home around mid May to get to Winton in time to meet up with everyone.

  9. Hello Cathy and Greg,

Looks like Tibby, Moet and Cherie are the pup tag team. We will have to divide up their duties.

Moet, the white one, is the #1 boundary rider and is an expert rat catcher with the patience of Jobe. She was a great door bell but, being 13 years old, is a deep sleeper and may miss the odd intruder these days. :(

Cherie, the black one, normally has the role of chief crocodile killer and expert cattle dog but has re-trained for this trip as a camel and big red kangaroo herder. Being five years old she is in her prime as a door bell and night time movement detector. :D

    So, what are Tibby's skills?

    Regards

    Colin

    HI Colin

Sounds like your furkids are very adept on the travel scene. Miss Tibby is fairly laid back and likes to take it pretty easy. She is 4 years old but is already in retired mode. You know - tired yesterday and retired today!!

On another subject though - does anyone take an extra gas bottle with them on these trips? In addition to the 2 we already carry on the TE, we were wondering if there might be a need to carry a 3rd?

Would also like some ideas on how to pack things for the trip over the corrugated roads. Having never travelled these roads previously I am not sure what to expect. I have seen some videos etc of other peoples travels but I am sure that the experienced travellers on this trip would have plenty of ideas for us newbies.

Thanks in advance for your comments

  10. Hi Everyone

Just wondering who else will be bringing their furkids on the Outback Way? I know Moet and Cherie will be there and we are bringing Tibby. Good idea about the boots. Might have to look into them. Those ants are pretty mean when they bite!!

  11. I have a deflator. It is called the "Gumtreetwig". You can get them anywhere. Works a treat. When you use them on your tyre valve it makes a hissing noise so you know it is working. They cost next to nothing..........only joking

    Colin

    Hi,

Actually for many years I just used a match, but I gave up smoking about 10 years ago... so that is why I bought the ARB deflator, but there is definitely no magic to it and the match would work just as well!

    Cheers

    Greg

  12. Hi,

No, you have to stop letting the air out when you see the level you want on the gauge. But as I said earlier, the gauge only reads accurately when you stop letting out the air.

I am happy for you to give mine a try before you decide to buy one. I believe there might be a short trip to Standown Park, if you are going to that I might see you there.

    Cheers

    Greg

  13. Hi

I have attached a photo of the ARB unit (well I have tried to!). the only real drawback to the unit is that you cannot read the gauge accurately while the tyre is deflating, you have to stop read the gauge and continue. Not a real hassle though

    Cheers
