  1. That does look familiar. Ours failed in almost the same place only geographically different, we had just turned from a 100kph to a 25kph when our tow bar parted company in Tasmania and the van skidded/rested on the new electric jack that I installed before we left. I had a complete new towbar manufactured and reinforced mounting plates as per drawings supplied by American Imports in Melbourne.

  2. Bryan,

To upgrade to 4495kg GVM on a 2500, you need to bring the rear springs to 3500 specifications. This requires the addition of 3 extra leaves per set. The LS11 certification, can than be carried out by a qualified mechanical engineer in Queensland.

I did all the work myself, and had the springs upgraded at a local spring works, than refitted them. (they are heavy)

I already had airbags fitted. When the upgraded springs were fitted I also needed to install a 25mm spacer for the air bags.

The certification for mine was carried out before the latest government saga's but should still be able to be carried out,  you also need to ensure your brakes are up to standard as the vehicle is put through a rigorous series of brake tests as part of the upgrade process.

Some information attached, I used for the engineer to confirm my research.

You need the specifications of the 3500 spring pack (attached), when you get the 3 new leaves installed they need to reset the springs to the 3500 specifications.

    Hope this helps.

    cheers

What I did with my Couplemate couplings after I had them installed the incorrect way......

6mm plate welded over can/could be 'easily' removed if chain had to be serviced/replaced

Tony, If you needed to replace the chain for any reason, instead of grinding off the plate why not cut the chain and insert a set of hammerlocks to rejoin new hi tensile chain ?

What is the length , width& height inside of your canopy & who made it. It looks great.

    Neville & Kay.

    Hi,

I will get all the dimensions tomorrow, just finished making my boat loader today so will be testing it over the next few days to make sure it works like I planned. I had already made one but I wasn't happy so I redesigned it. The back was on the truck when we bought it and I haven't been able to find any makers identity, the gear on the back is why I was happy to go back to a 2006 unit.

I know it is 2.2m long, divided in the middle all aluminium, with 4 external boxes and an additional one underneath accessed from the rear. On the passenger side the fuel cap is inside.

I have a stainless steel pull out table and 3 sets of draws above, a mid height shelf extends from the side of the draws to the rear wall, this is large enough to house the sat dish and folding solar panel. On the lower compartment it had a fridge slide, our fridge wouldn't fit on it so I have installed our 3kw generator. Also on this side is the light controls, shower pump (same as in the van) switch and battery isolator and our two folding chairs.

On the drivers side a shelf runs the full length, I have the fridge mounted up front on a drop down slide we had that in the cruiser. Behind the fridge in the rear lower compartment is 2 x 120 amp hour batteries. A full size draw is directly under the fridge. Next to that I have three compartments, one for the ladder and 2 smaller chairs, next one has a 60 litre water tank, last one has all the awnings and equipment for the fox wing.

In the shelf is a pull out slide which enables you to turn it into a double bed. At the moment this area is empty, but thinking of moving the sat dish back over this side. A couple of photo's to give you an idea. In the four outside boxes I carry some spare hoses and the tyre changing gear, 2 are still empty.

    cheers

  5. Pepper,

As Webby mentioned, old school a mans word is enough, and in this case one speaks for all when you are talking about the Gall family and standing behind the product they put on the market.

I have never asked or needed a piece of paper to judge a persons character, if you can't see the passion that the family put into the business maybe you are asking the wrong questions.

Sincerely hope that you enjoy your van and have the same experience that 99.9% of KEDRON customers receive.

    cheers

  6. Colin,

I have been looking at some of the US sites and if you go to http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/ or http://www.duramaxforum.com these guys have a wealth of information and ideas. From what I have read you need to buy a pump which has failsafe flow capability. That is if the powered lift pump fails, the vacuum lift can still pull the fuel through. A few options for you to look at and than talk with someone over here to see if they can match the specs. A kit I have looked at are Kennedy Filter and pump kit, not cheap at about $700 US i think + freight and customs.

  7. Our van came standard with the DO35, I have recently purchased the 4500 Mc Hitch Auto Coupler, I should have gone the DO45 just for ease of fitting as the front mounting holes are different PCD's. No problem if you have the tools just a piece of advice. I was very happy with the DO35 and the only reason I changed is that I am going to increase the GVM of the van up to the chassis rating of 4000kg, I can't seem to keep it under 3500kg and have full water tanks.

    Happy hunting.

  8. Hi Pepper,

We Bought our first KEDRON Pop Top XC used from the yard on Gympie Road. After a couple of years we upgraded to a 19'6" Top Ender in 2009.  I have just one thing to say, as long as you are honest with what you do with the van and come across in a pleasant manner the support the Gall Boys give is second to none. My last warranty experience with Kedron was a couple of months ago but with a van nearly 6 years old than they stood behind the product as did the supplier who they deal with.  I personally have never asked about warranty, somethings you expect to pay for and others are just fixed by honest people doing a bloody good job.  Look at the blog in my signature and you will see some of the places we have taken our van without worry.

    Hope you enjoy the van.

    Safe travels

  9. Hi All,

It has been a long time since I posted. Helen and I took the plunge although we didn't get a new Chev ours is a 2006 crew cab long body, but it had what we wanted in it. We are running 18" wheels and have done a trip to Sydney and back with and without the van and a little bit of dirt out in Rangers Valley near Glenn Innes. I often use to joke with Martin and Amanda when they said take it for a drive, my excuse use to be "If I take it for a drive I may not want to go back to the old faithful 100 series." Well I took this old girl for a drive and didn't go back to the 100 series. When we moved into the 100 when we bought our old Pop Top XC we used to say why did we tow with the sedan for so long. Well the same why didn't we upgrade to a Chev or GMC or Dodge earlier. Talk about comfort and less stress while towing. I have had no trouble parking the new girl around Hervey Bay area. Hope to catch you all on the road again one day.

    Cheers

  10. David,

Thank's for that, might run out of time before we leave on Tuesday, but will keep it in mind as I must admit I have forgotten to turn the switch back on on several occasions.

Yes, generally when the van is on my lights are on, I have my rear view camera on the car powered up through my light circuit, I use this one when driving and choose to flick between the van and car camera to check things on the A frame.

  11. Steve and Kez,

Have a look at our blog should be in our signature block "Travelling Round" go to the 2010 entry, it covers our trip to Darwin which included Kakadu and Litchfield. Later entries include our round the block trip. Have a great holiday.

    cheers

  12. Mark,

We are in the same boat re age of the van and batteries and will be looking for a new set before we go to Tassie at Christmas, one thing I have found is that when free camping by turning off the brake control charger it saves a considerable draw on the system especially if in cloudy weather. I think this charger is rated at 8 amps and my unit has the charge light showing all the time when not connected to the car, so I just switch it off and make it part of my routine when connecting up to switch it back on again.

    cheers

  13. Just saw this on the 4WD TV website, if you are travelling south with a Patrol may pay to be a little more careful with your pride and joy.

WARNING. There is a gang stealing Patrols on the west side of Melbourne. There is a huge black market in apparently shipping the engines and parts to the middle east and I ma shocked by the number of people losing their pride and joy around Melbourne. This gang is professional, quiet and good at what they do...please be mindful of where you park at night.

    cheers

  14. Tony,

I don't know any repairers but two suggestions depending on your roof layout as we had similar issues and as usual the KEDRON boys did assist :

    1. Take down the inside skirting on your A/C, check the 4 mounting bolts of the main unit as these had come loose on my unit, secondly spray water around while you have the skirting off as our van only leaked when it was in a nose up attitude and water was coming in past some baffles.

    2. Do you have a Heike ? if so I removed all silastic from the outside roof area and resealed around the perimeter this was the last leak and touch wood haven't had a problem since some 18 months ago.

    Hope this assists.

    Laurie

  15. Chanty,

If you are heading through Willmington, Hancocks Lookout is a free camp 3 km past Willmington and about 10km in off the highway, good gravel surface. The turn off is on the left as you start climbing Horrocks Pass. It is #305 in the old Camps 4 book.

On the cliffs plenty of spots west of head of bight, we stayed at the 38km marker post before the SA/WA border. Look at our blog, it has plenty of ideas once you get over west.

    cheers
