  1. hi all. Short note to inform our friends that Mavis has just come home today following a week in hospital with a treatment for a breast cancer diagnosis. Unfortunately she had an MRI yesterday that showed she has the bastard in the spine hips and scull. She is in a good place with a good attitude so far so keep the contacts coming, any dirty jokes or not so dirty as an alternative are acceptable 😀 call if you have the number or find it from friends. cheers to all.   3. Could not agree more with Steve and Kez. What a great event! Tony and exec crew and some new exec members need a big thank you for the event that was a great experience for all that were there. Also to the Amazing Monckton Family, Ralph, Antonija, Alicia, Isabelle, Jesse, Charlotte, Heath, Sophia, Luca, Felicity and Tiffany What an amazing family that live at and run this exceptional camp area! The Saturday night xmas dinner was great. How the Monckton's organised the appearance of a Koala just behind our outside dining area and supplying a great feast is beyond me. Tony and the Moncktons, Very well done. P.S. A huge welcome to the new members that joined at this great event. Cheers from the Kyd's
  4. Hi John. Under no circumstances use the trailer mate to jack a Kedron. They are only rated at 1 ton max capacity so unless you have a very small Kedron please don"use it. I will leave HI Lift comments to those that know :-) Cheers from the Kyd's
  5. Hi Danny @ Sue I have a couple of friends in the group that have these hitches. They are ok but as Greg and Tony said the Airsafe is far superior with the shocks. I have had the airsafe for around 20,000kms and it is a dream. It smooths out the truckiness of my F250 and looks after the van well. Cheers. P.S. If you go for the Airsafe make absolutely sure that you get the 6 tonner. The air hitch itself is rated 6 ton but they can come as 4 tonners which makes the bolt on tongue way too fragile.

  7. Greetings fellow nomads. A not a plug yet again for a great component supplier. Regressing a little, in 2013 on our run towards the Cape we stopped over in the Isa to visit friends that live there. One morning during a walk around of the tug, I noticed that the left hand side was down. A pressure check revealed a flat airbag. Application of the compressor didn't help,so a call to Airbag man to find their agent in the Isa guided us to the ARB agent. A look at the bag revealed a hole in it. A few calls to airbag man by ARB and both bags were changed no charge. Bear in mind the bags were 6 years old, how good is that! Our latest Airbag experience was just as satisfactory. In February 2015 I fitted bags to our new F truck. From day one I was disappointed with the resultant ride as Airbagman had suggested that they would improve the trucky ride, this never happened. I also had problems achieving the stated height measurement for the bags within the stated maximum pressure. I used to get very close to the measurement but at a very low pressure and max pressure (60psi) made no difference. We have been staying at Lawnton show ground waiting to take the van to the factory for a few mods and a new stove (another story). Crawling under the truck revealed that the bottom brackets on the bag installation were loose and bent. Called Airbag man and were referred to their approved fitter Auto Giant in Brendale. Tony at Auto Giant (what a legend) did a full assessment of the problem and sent us around the corner to Airbag man for their engineers to have a gander. Many pictures and phone calls later we were sent back to Auto Giant with all new fit kit to re install the bags. I did insist on new bolts and they agreed. The original bags were then installed correctly and must say the difference in ride now is amazing , the ride in very nearly car like,love it and again no charge(lucky them )!   10. Hi Gavin We had the Tekonsha Prodigy in use for 8 years without fault. We changed to the Tekonsha P3, 4 years ago only because the old Prodigy was not compatible with our Electric over hydraulic disc's on the new van and love it as well. The newer Prodigy's are now compatible with the Elec/hyd brakes. The P3 also has in build diagnostic's see http://www.tekonsha.com/products/brake-controllers/proportional-controllers/p3-/TzaIxkVx1cI5XOy!osRB55TR19SXShj4 I have had no experience with the Hayman Reese units.   11. Hi Colin My van is plated in QLD @ 3700kg's and definitely required an annual heavy vehicle inspection. It is such a pain that I am having it re plated @ 3500kg's(the max weight allowed in QLD). My last inspection had to be done in MtIsa on the way to the Gulf and cape. It was a drama that I will not go through again.
  12. Hi all We have had the Waeco 215l in our van for over 3 years and love it. I opted for this fridge due to the more robust latches and hinges and the fact that all the hot stuff (motor compressor etc) was mounted at the top of the fridge where you want the heat to get away. Our last van had the Vitrifrigo and had no problems. Our current van has been around the block including a trip to the Gulf country and the Cape last year.This included some of the worst roads that we have experienced since caravanning. The cape trip included 8 km's of the old telle track to get into and out of Eliott Twin falls. The road in included 1/2 meter deep wash outs and lots of rocks to negotiate or climb over, so not only the fridge but the van had a huge shake up. Personally Love the 215l Waeco.
  13. Looks grim Guy's. With the proposal and the depth of change it looks like it will go ahead regardless, they will not carry the cost of a manager and the changes proposed without dreaded fees. We put in our 5 cents worth though as the loss of another quality free camp is not good. Fingers crossed. Rod & Mavis.

Hi Doug I personally opted for VC coils and did not think at the time that Airbags were worth the extra cost.The VC suspension is superb with the exception of the shockies that they use (could be better) My concerns at the time were for the robustness of the bag system and the extra components required that add to the list of "things that can go wrong". We still do some serious off roading with the van and I worried that there was too much to go wrong. Having personally spoken with about 30 airbag owners and also seen them in action on my Brother inlaws van, I am completely sold on them now. They amount to an horrific amount of money but the ability to pull up on an uneven parking spot and flick a switch to level the rig is priceless (even with the tow tug still hooked up) The B/inlaws van has 150 mm of travel and this allows them to drop the van right down when parked which puts the entry step close to the ground and it is only on very un level ground that they need an extra step. Having raived for so long, Would I fit them personally?. A big yes from me. Cheers from the Kyd's.

  20. Hi Ian & Jill Worth a check on the voltage at the fridge. We had similar years ago and found that we had a 2.5 volt loss through the Mobitronic (not sure if they are still fitted but low voltage at the fridge for any reason causes extended run times) unit thus the fridge was only turning off for short periods and running for extended periods. Good luck.

  22. Greetings all Like Sue we have the VC Liftmaster slide jack PN 51S 100SLIDE. This unit is magic, easy to use and almost unbreakable. I have modified ours by taking the handle assembly off and welding a drive that was removed from an old van corner stabilizer to the top. this way I drive the jack both up and down with my battery drill. Works a treat and life is easy If you do this be careful when the jack reaches the end of its travel the torque of the drill can can twist it violently if you are moving it too fast.

Welcome to the three new couple members that were coerced into joining this weekend I hope the scars incurred this weekend heal rapidly. Most thank you's and Gathering reports generally are published on the Gatherings site in this forum. This only allows members to view the results of our trips away. I thought posting here on the public forum might show non members what we (some of us) get up to on our Gathering trips away. We had a Christmas Gathering this weekend just gone (Dec 29th 30th and 1st) at Standown Park (see http://standown.com.au/ ) at Goomboorian halfway between Gympie and Tin Can Bay. 26 yes 26 vans were in attendance for one of the most hilarious and well attended get together's held for a long time. A huge thank you to Clive and Sandra for organising this gathering and also for the great pole dance display done by Sandra egged on by Clive. What can I say, it was just one of the hilarious moments that we experienced during the weekend. Sorry Sandra I meant to say sensual and exciting moments :wub:blush . A lot of people arrived on the 28th some were already there and others came later but I guarantee that all had a ball. No one would have left without sore laughing muscles. Organised activities included secret Santa prezzie exchange (or war grin) hosted by the lovely Shirley great value laughs followed by a Chrissie dinner on Saturday evening that was cooked and served by Rod and Pam the owners of Standown plus some helpers ( no mean feat when providing for 52 famished Kedroners following a great fivesies) The fare included roast beef and pork roast veg and trimmings plus a great Christmas pud cooked by Pam with cream fresh fruit and custard, yummo. Oh did I mention the crackling yum again. Everyone provided their own liquid refreshments that were checked for freshness earlier in the afternoon at fivesies. Most of the liquids were ok but some might have been off a little as some of us did display some after effects following consumption of same :-) The entertainment was organised by owner Rod, Standown owner (not me honest). A mate (Les) that had a guitar, amplifier and most unfortunately for us a microphone. Boy the guitar playing was good but the singing needed a little bit of tuning or several decades of lessons, but none the less Les provided endless amusement for all. A fantastic night! Sunday at about midday we headed for the Silky Oak Tea Gardens about a kilometre down the road towards Gympie. ( see http://www.weekendnotes.com/silky-oak-tea-gardens-kia-ora/ ) the food was superb and the country singer almost out did Les the singer from the night before at the Xmas dinner. At fivesies, after the pub lunch (and for some of us older participants a Nana nap), someone suggested that we recount to all how we met our spouses. What can I say, some renditions of first meetings and first love were to say the least hilarious and everyone there ached from the laughter. Host Rod especially amused all with some great stories backed up by his lovely lady Pam, that guy must write a book or at least record his stories some how! Hope you all enjoy this little scribe and the accompanying few pictures. Here is hoping that some others will share their pics. Cheers to all from the Kyd's.
  24. Hi All My 3.3 did not fit in our gen box without removing the slide and modifying the generator handles. Not sure if our box will be the same as yours. I had measured it but unfortunately did not take into account the seal rim around the box. Cheers.
  25. Hi all Yes the Prodigy P2 is a great unit. We had to upgrade to the P3 when we moved on to Elec over Hydraulic disc's on the van. The older Prodigy P2 (as we had) was not compatible although the brakes seemed to work well. Having said that the latest Prodigy P2 is compatible with the hydraulics. Either the Prodigy P2 or the P3 are great units. Economy wise the Prodigy P2 is the cheaper. Hope this helps. Cheers from the Kyd's
