  1. Hi all just wondering if those using the toilet vent system are still happy with the results. Been thinking of installing this for some time now and saw them for sale today for $150 , down from $ 240. John
  2. Not sure what they did. Told me they had to make them here in Albany WA you are right been around since dot , Sorry to highjack the origional thead John
  3. Hi John have not had any thing to do with AL-KO, however we had our brakes redone here in Albany by "Albany Brake Service "who did a top job made the shoes themselves for a reasonable price. Please note I am not in any way connected to this company. John
  4. Wow some amazing footage of the floods and storms in Queensland on channel 7 . Hope every body traveling or living there stays safe . Read via Facebook that someone lost their troopy and kedron ? Bunderburg Brisbane and many other towns are inandated with water levels never seen before also happening in NSW. Praying for all those affected John and Jo
  5. One more tip if I may. We always take longlife milk the one litre cartons and after learning the hard way now we always pack them in seperate plastic bags, which means if they do rub together, and leak the spill stays in the bag.
  6. Hi Muz we also traveled the Gibb with our then xc Kedron 5 years ago and loved it . Took 10 days and thinking later that really should have been 20 days with so much to see and explore. We also took a flight to Mitchell falls from Drysdale. Then from Derby flew to Horizontal fall's landed on the water there and stayed over on the pontoon . That was a beautiful experience we will never forget . I endorse the earlier comments take your time enjoy mountains(remember the movie Australia?), the river crossings talk to other travellers for tips on how the road is, and have fun. Re broome, some 300 klm's south you will find 80 mile beach thats where we will be around that time. A very good caravan park with power or un-powerd sites good beach for fishing with reasonable prices, last year it was $32 a night . John
  7. Hello Bryan, we have also have a Auto sat 2s very happy with it . I did have some issues( my fault) which Intellisat were more than happy to retify over the phone no problems John
  8. Hi John and Sandra, Good to read about the Cape trip, it's on our bucket list. Regarding Tassie go for it but I would if I may, suggest to take your van realising it will be a little extra but I wonder how much you would actually save. Even if it would be $800, you at least you won't have the hassle of trying to sell the camper-van later, and your van would have many more creature comforts and the ability to free camp I would think. We were in Tassie a few years ago in February and some places it was bitterly cold at night so take your heater if you have one. There are heaps of free camp spots every where . They don't seem to mind where you park. Most towns have caravan parks private or run by the shire. We found that talking to fellow travellers the best. One camp which springs to mind was on the old wharf under the Nut in Stanley they even had free showers there for the travellers. If you can send some days at Port Arthur well worth it heaps of history there. It's a great place to visit we were there for 5 weeks but that was not long enough would love to go back one day. Enjoy the planning that's half the fun I recon. John
  9. John and Tina, our first Kedron had a extended drawbar as does our current 19.6 internal topender and we have never had a problem at caravan parks with the extra length .Our van has box fixed to the rear replacing one of the spare tyres makeing the van 9.2 overall in length . I would not hesitate with the long drawbar with the possibility for storing firewood . We always have a large plastic tub sitting on the mesh to store bits and pieces . Enjoy the planning you made a good choice with the Kedron. John
  10. Has any one had or have an ice maker that live in the van or at home? Seen some on line around $120.00-$ 400.00 Thinking of making rather than buying ice for our fishing trips and well ok, drinking Do they work? Worth investing in? Please. John
  11. Fully agree with Tolley, and have found that generally the truckies are good if you communicate with them in advance. However sometimes I have turned the uhv off because of the foul language they use between each other This does seems to be more common on the Albany Highway Albany -Perth than elsewhere John
  12. No haven't heard how Pardoo station is maybe ok? The Pardoo roadhouse really copped it but that's some distance from the station on the coast. The lady from the road house said thats her last cyclone she out of there Can't blame her.
  13. The news from eighty mile beach caravan park is that the eye missed them leaving them with little damage just some gardening and triming so they were very lucky. Pardo roadhouse 50km down the road received major damage with 270 klm wind and a lot of rain. Boy Australia has had some significant weather systems in the last two years. Last night lots of rain again in Cairns and still flooding in the east. Makes one wonder what's next. Down here in Albany we are going through a long dry spell which is rare for us. Stay safe John and Jo
  14. Thinking of Colin ,Dan , ranger Pete their family's and staff at the Eighty Mile beach caravan park in W.A ' This cyclone lashing the coast now has been predicted at 250 klm 's. I believe most of the staff and family have been evacuated . The cyclone is stronger than the one they experienced three years ago which did a lot of damage. We were there last year for 4 weeks in June and love the park and fishing . Here's hoping and praying every one in this area stay safe. John
  15. I think we worked this out with the help of our son Well that did'nt work can some one help?
  16. I think I finely with help on our son worked this out

  17. Hello all, Our Top Ender in going in for a wheel alignment tomorrow morning . One tyre has really worn off on the inside not happy A local body bulding company "Evertrans" here in Albany W.A is going to do this. They are experienced using the laser method and work on many caravans so here's hoping they will fix it. Let you all know how it goes, always good to know where to have repairs done when on the road. John
  18. Enjoy the new van. Footrest now that sounds like a good idea John
  19. Hi All, Thinking the other day what I liked the most about our Topender and started to list them. This is not intended to start a" my van is better than your's" ,but would be interested to read how and what we regard as valuable, and practical items in our vans. Other posts have dealt with wish lists so this one is a little different. My list of good things in our van : Diesel heater with switch next to my bed Air bag suspension with compressor beautiful for levelling sideways. Washing machine Oven Solar power system 70 amp battery charger En-suite Large hanging cupboard with six draws Led down-lights Auto tuning sat dish Storage under bed Lots of cupboards with heavy duty catches Steel draw sides Large fridge and freezer Fantastic fan Air con Hot-water system Extended drawbar Large box on rear for generator Storage space under above box for sullage hose Two lockers accessible from outside Front locker. I know that some of the above items are standard but well worth having. who's next? regards John
  20. Thanks Rod, I have a price for some new one's from Tom at Kedron ,however the original ones only lasted four years so I will look into getting them painted on. just wondering if any body else has the same problem ? One would think that the vinyl would last at least 10-15 years. John
  21. Has anybody had to replace the vinyl kedron stickers lately? And if so where did you get them done? Ours are looking very sad and need replacing soon. John
  22. Looks like a novel idea . Wouldn't like to take it out in our 6m swell though. Hydrofield used to make one similar years ago. Think we will stick to our Topender John
  23. Hi David We have a Dometic diesel heater, and up to a few weeks ago were very happy with it. I said were, because on the last trip away the unit started smoking to such an extent that we had to turn it off . The neighbours were complaining too much. Now I realise that these heaters need some maintenance, and the fuel may become stale however, we use our heater a lot so fuel should not have been a issue. Our book states that these units need a service every year by a qualified person.???? The heater was repaired by our local refrigeration man here in Albany ,for a cost of $485.00. Apparently a gasket was leaking and the glow plug was a little dirty. My gut feeling is that a gas unit may not give you as many dramas as a diesel unit. If you look at the gas hot water systems ,they seem to go on for ever. Not sure how much gas you would use say, if the unit is going all night ,probably not much as they are on a thermostat. I think my next heater will run on gas John.
  24. Same problem with ours in length very frustrating to get it on. Rod, what have you done with the old rivet holes in the van? Our old xc had a vinyl skirt with no problems, maybe that's a better product John
  25. Hi Rod and Mavis,we too are leaving perth on 29 August doing the flower run. First stop Dalwallinu then heading up to coalseam , Mt Magnet, across to Leinster , Kalgoorlie and home to Albany.
