Road Condition

Hi Everyone,

We are currently in Kakadu NP and in a few days hope to travel from Daly Waters to Cape Crawford then up to Borroloola. Then along the Savannah Way to Burketown and Normanton then up the Burke Developmental Road to Chillagoe and into Mareeba.

Since leaving home on 20th June we have heard all sorts of stories about washouts etc on the Savannah Way and are wondering if anyone has travelled along there recently and can provide an up to date condition report.

HI Mayzee

We drove the Savannah Way on in June and crossed the Calvert River on 13th June which was then the only major obstacle. There were plenty of washouts and tricky looking creek crossings. The roughest section was Hells gate towards the Calvert which we had to do rather slowly.

We were lucky crossing the Calvert as 2 days earlier another 21' Kedron owner together with 6 others spent a day clearing a path across the Calvert which if it is the same you will take a path keeping to the left in a curve to the left of a rock near the middle of the crossing.

Have fun

We were part of the group that crossed the Calvert River that Zolle referred to. We believe that we were the first vans to get through after the April cyclone. The group included our ATV, a Trackmaster, T Van and Kimberley Karavan as well as a motor bike and others. You may be interested in the following Youtube link which shows us crossing.

Hi Robert and Jane.

I think you must be the guys we met in Brisbane a month or so ago - you lent us some dvds of trips you have taken? It was wonderful to see this posting. Thanks for sharing the clip with us.
