Skirt Too Small

Robert and Jane Jones

The skirt (van annex, not mini) on our four year old ATV has shrunk, it is now about 50mm short in length, so will need to get a new one made! We have only used it about three times during three years on the road full time. Has anyone experienced this, maybe we need to look at an alternative material?

Hi Robert & Jane.

We experienced the same drama with our skirt.

Rod moved the press studs on the van to suit the shrunken skirt. This worked well and it's total length for some reason was still ok for the end walls to be installed.

Most studs needed to be moved about an inch (will leave the conversion to you  )

All good now !

The question still remains. How does silver tarp shrink??????

Hi Robert and Jane,

Could you not add a 2 or 3 inch (50/75mm) piece to the bottom. Would work out a bit cheaper. Possibly go for a colour to suit the van or a dark colour to hide the dirt when it sits on the ground.

Same problem with ours in length very frustrating to get it on.

Rod, what have you done with the old rivet holes in the van?

Our old xc had a vinyl skirt with no problems, maybe that's a better product

We had the same problem on the first van (but haven't used the present annexe often enough to know if it is proving to be a problem. From the statements above I am guessing it may have the same hassles. In our case it warped so that when it went onto the van it looked skew wiff. But it did fit, albeit with tugging.

I removed the old studs and put in a rivet, looks ok not out of place when the alloy is polished

We have decided to have a new skirt made in welded vinyl at ‘Not Just Canvas’ in Caboolture. We thought about relocating the studs but we would also have needed to add length to the ends. We were worried that further shrinkage could occur and our time, effort and money would have been wasted. The people at ‘Not Just Canvas’ said they had been using the silver material for years and generally had no problems except in two cases after which they now recommend welded vinyl. They surmised that there may have been a bad batch of material.

Hi Gang

Just fitted our skirt out of curiosity, and it is fine. Made out of silver tarp and rubber bottom.Made by Aussie traveller.

Cheers
