Wayne and Cheryl Byrne
We purchased our Kedron Topender No. 650 second hand and did not come with a generator, we are looking at purchasing one and have read on this site people having trouble with the generator handling the air con. Our air con is a Coleman MACH, we don't have any books regarding the wattage required, does anyone else have this air con and is the honda 2000watt capable of starting this air con?ThanksWayne & Cheryl
Rosco
The Honda 2KVa should do the job however for a few Kgs more have a look at the Yahama EF2400iS. http://www.yamaha-motor.com.au/power/index.htm?power.aspYahama EF2400iS Same noise, 2.4KVa, downside 11Kgs more.To run the A/C very successfully:Honda 30IsORYahama EF3000iSE, Both a lot heavier however the smaller generators labour when trying to run the A/C.The wont fit in the standard generator box though.Rosco
Kimbo
Totally agree with RoscoI have the Coleman Mach on our Topender and to date havn't suffered any of the problems that others report here to having. We were in Borroloola area mid April last yr and it was very hot there and we ran the aircon on the Generator with no problems Im sure Chris will come on here and report her findings re the Honda and I believe they are going for the Yamaha in the new van Regards
Wayne and Cheryl Byrne
Thanks RoscoWe did the measurements and realise that the Yamaha 2400 won't fit in the generator box with the slide that is in there, would have to take it out. We were thinking along the line of the Yamaha but the size was a bit of a problem.Wayne
Rosco
Just a warning. I have it on good authority that the Kipor 2600 generator will NOT run the A/C's. Rosco
Chris
As Kimbo says we had real problems with the Honda running the aircon at temperatures of about 45 or 47 degrees (admittedly it WAS hot outside!). We referred to the manual and it says the ambient operating temperature is below 40 degrees. After having the unit thoroughly checked twice by Honda agents, and no fault found with it, we relectantly decided it must be the factor of the heat on that day. Had similar problems in hot weather at later times too.Julie and Neil have reported the same issue, and they tell me they removed the slide from their Top Ender so the Yamaha 245 would fit in there, and have no problems since in ANY weather.Chris
Wayne and Cheryl Byrne
Thanks for the input, we will probably be going with the yamaha as the specs we found for the Coleman Mach says 2117 watts at 35degrees which is outside the honda 2 capabilities.Wayne & Cheryl
