Thanks for posting the link John. Coincidentally I have just downloaded it from that site too. I am trying to work out how it can be saved for offline viewing.

The link encourages users to donate to the RFDS, which is a very good approach.

Chris, if you downloaded it as a PDF just save it to someplace you'll remember on your HD and then you can view it at your leisure.

Hi Chris,

Yes I agree with the RFDS donation approach. A very worthwhile cause indeed

To save the e-book for offline viewing try this:

  1. Internet Explorer - Right click on the download icon and select "Save target as..." then browse to where you want to save the PDF file, or if you have it open already click "File" on the Menu Bar and chose "Save As" then browse to where you want to save the PDF file.
  2. Google Chrome - Right click on the download icon and select "Save link as..." then browse to where you want to save the PDF file, or if you have it open already hover the mouse over the bottom right corner of the browser window and click on the disk icon (you can print from here as well using the printer icon) then browse to where you want to save the PDF file.
  3. Apple Safari - Right click in the download icon and select "Download Linked File As" then browse to where you want to save the PDF file, or if you have it open already click "File" on the Menu Bar and chose "Save As" then browse to where you want to save the PDF file.
  4. Mozilla Firefox - Right click on the download icon and select "Save Link As..." then browse to where you want to save the PDF file, or if you have it open already click "File" on the Menu Bar and chose "Save Page As" then browse to where you want to save the PDF file.
  5. On iPad/iPhone - Tap on the download icon and then tap near the top tight corner (top left for iPhone) of the document, then select "Open in..." then chose where you want to save the file, "Open in iBooks" is most common, but I use Dropbox myself and store almost everything there as I can get to it from all of my devices without having to find the link and download it again from there. Tip: If you're using Dropbox all your files are automatically available when Online/Offline on all PC's and Notebooks connected to Dropbox, but, on iPad, iPhone and Android devices Dropbox content is only available when Online unless the content is "Stared", that is marked as Favorites.

Sorry if this is not what you meant and I'm selling coal to Newcastle

Cheers

John

Thanks, John and Chris.

For others info. here is the other forum post. Naturally, I don't get any personal information back from the RFDS, but it looks like our caravanning communities are really supporting the Donation request, but it is optional!

The 2013 edition of 'Staying in Touch on the Road' is now available for FREE!

It covers all our latest mobile communications and options; Mobile phones, iPads/Tablets, Laptops, Modems, Antennas, Apps, Programs, Websites and much more to make it easier to stay connected as you travel.

It was written to help new or inexperienced travellers understand their best options, but there is plenty for the more experienced travellers too.

Created by Grant Nielsen, a lot of experts contributed to the eBook.

* Collyn Rivers, Australia's leading expert in solar/12 volt contributed the Solar Power section

* Ken Sulman, specialises in Antennas and does a lot of work with the emergency services wrote the Antenna guide

* Nichol Hill, who ran our Antarctic Base communications, contributed many sections on remote communications.

* Sean Ramussen is Australia's top blog expert and Sean contributed to the blogging information

* Gail Bennett, from Nomad Notes wrote the travel diary section

* Matthew Peters, US based and acknowledged as the international training expert on Smartphone/Tablet video production and quick, easy shooting/Youtube publishing provided the 'Making a Great Video' guide.

Thanks to all of them and the many others, who all contributed their time and knowledge to the eBook freely, in the hope of raising some money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

The eBook can be downloaded for Free, or hopefully with a small donation to the RFDS at: Staying in Touch on the Road Free eBook

Thanks, Grant

Thanks everyone for the wonderfully detailed reponses. I had tried the right click and save as function but it didn't work. I will follow the alternative instructions and am confident it will be fine.
