We have a suburban 240 x gas hws fitted to our 2006 19'6 int xc. Kedron didn't want to fit it because they said we would have problems in the dust with the electics. However as we had no problems with our previous van of 8 years we insisted and they obliged. We have now done 35000km with quite a bit on dusty roads we have not had any problems. The benefit of not having to use the gas in caravan parks is a plus as you always have plenty of hot water on tap at all times. When off road as we do quite a lot we put the gas on for approx 7 minutes and the water is plenty hot enough for showers and you don't have to sacrifice water mixing hot & cold.We have now been away 10 months on this trip currently in Tassie and all's well except for the cold.Geoff

G'day Vince & Angie,

We have a Dec 2006 TE with a Suburban Gas/Electric hot water system.

Stan advised in the decision stage that it didn't come with a warranty where the straight gas did which was a cause of concern at the time but we still chose the Gas/Electric model.

To date absolutely no issues and the TE has done nearly 20,000 k's, much of that on unsealed surfaces.

We are pleased with the result given we do spend some time in van parks while working with a local client.

Just replaced the annode last week and there wasn't much of the old one left - I reckon we will do this now on every 12 - 15 months. I often use an external filter for mains water when it may be a bit suspect but it clearly doesn't keep the evil stuff out that chomps on the metal components.

Regards,

Roger

Hi all thanks for the replies on the hot water systems looks like we also will take the chance and have the gas /elect fitted although Kedron have advised against it. We pick up our 19ft TE in august 08 looking foward to it.

Vince & Angie
