New member seeking feedback on CP5 Compact - likely to order in a few weeks...

After twenty years with our unbreakable and very wonderful Kimberley Kamper trailer-tent, we have decided that in our sixties we are now grown up enough to have an onboard bathroom, and a hard roof when it is pouring!  We were in the queue for a Kimberley Kruiser E-class but, as most will know, Kimberley are now in liquidation.  We have a number of close friends with Kedrons who cannot speak highly enough of the vans and the company, so we are now on course for a CP5 Compact.

To any owners of the CP5 Compact - we are flying up to meet Paul Willcocks on Sat 25 August 18.  If, before then, you have any comments, feedback, or can help with the sort of 'intelligent questions' we should be asking, we will appreciate you making contact with us.  Moving from a compact 900kg low- centre-of-gravity trailer to a large two tonne box will be quite intimidating, so all help, advice, suggestions are welcome.   (Will be towing with our 100-series petrol Landcruiser).

Thanks in advance to any CP5 Compact owners who have any advice to offer.

cheers,

Graham and Liz.

Hello Liz and Graham,

Welcome to the KOG.

To be honest, I am not that familiar with the CP5, but I am positive you will not notice too much of a difference from the previous trailer in regards to towing. The 100 series should do it with ease.

The boys at Kedron definantly know how to set a van up for towing and they will make sure everything is perfect before they send you on your way.

As for the 'intelligent questions', I wouldn't worry to much about it. Looking back to when we bought ours................we were first time van buyers and i know we asked a lot of dumb questions and the guys were more than helpful. If you have a question or a concern.................just ask regardless. Hell, .......if you have watched any of their DVD's you will soon realise that they are not that intelligent themselves at certain times.

Good luck with it all

Hi Graham & Liz,

We have a compact that we only picked up in March this year. Before that we towed a 1 tonne 33 year old Millard Micro.

Yes the van is heavier and we have noticed a weight difference but our compact is easy to tow and we are getting used to it. It's first trip was a four week adventure north to Cooktown and via the Bloomfield track.  Our 79 series cruiser towed it without a concern.  We love our compact - we have the combined shower/ toilet model and have found that very workable, great kitchen and heaps of storage. We put bike racks on the front box and love that.

We would recommend the compact and we think you will love it also.  Oh and no question is stupid as I think we asked heaps!!

Thanks Tony and Irene, most grateful for your feedback.

Very happy to hear that you are happy with your decision, and we are now officially very excited about going to Kedron in a few weeks..... we have had so much positive feedback about the brand that we are confident in the company, and we want to stay as small and light as possible hence the Compact looks best for us.

thanks again for getting in touch, and safe travels.

Liz and Graham.

Tony and Irene - is the fact that you have a toilet/shower combo the reason why your door is at the back?  We have only see one layout for the CP5 Compact, and that it a full-width bathroom at the back, and the door at the front near the foot of the bed....  Confused!

Grateful for anything further you can advise re layouts..

Graham.

  • 3 weeks later...

Thanks for all advice both in this general forum and also in the new member section.

We visited Kedron yesterday, and have now placed our order for the CP5 Compact.

Very excited, but now have to be patient for a year or so......!
