Bruce and Sue
With our old van I used a 3 ton hydraulic jack. The ATV has a much greater road clearance. What do owners find the most suitable jack.Bruce :confused1:
Laurie and Helen
Bruce,It must have been about the only topic we didn't cover the other night over dinner. I use a 5 ton bottle jack and had to use it the other afternoon at Policemans Point after staking a tyre whilst getting into a pretty tricky campsite in the tea tree so we would be out of the wind.We are in Strahan tonight after arriving at Cradle to find out no sites available so will go back Wednesday for 2 nights before heading off to Devonport. We will spend our time doing the train and bus trip to Queenstown that we thought we may have to forgo due to time constraints. We went up to Devils Gullet on the Mole Creek road 14km up and obviously the same down excellent and well worth the long drive up and down the mountain. The roads were good just very loose on some of the corners on the descent. One thing for sure I have become fairly good at doing 3 point turns with the van at the end of some roads or in parking areas at lookouts.CheersLaurie
ATV42
Hi there. We also use a heavy duty bottle jack (5 ton), and we also carry several pieces of wood, cut in various sizes and thickness, to use as required. Bear in mind you are lifting about 1/2 the weight of the van when changing a tyre. Laurie and Helen, we are currently at Petal Point, overlooking Cape Portland, what a view  . Have a good trip.Peter & Margaret(ATV42)
carlsp1000
Has anyone had cause to use one of the hydrolic jockey wheel jacks on an ATV? We have a Lotus and are waiting delivery of our ATV and this is something I did not think of till mentioned here.
joyngeoff
Hi Bruce, Re jacking of A T V We have a 3.5 ton X C 19'6 and have had no difficulty jacking with the trailermate hydrolic jack come jocky wheel. We carry sections of timber to lift the jack to a suitable height to lift the van. Regards Geoff.
sid fish
It's also worth keeping in mind that with dual axle vans, jacking the chassis has to lift half the van weight, but jacking under the axle concerned only has to lift a quarter van weight . . .
