Robert and Jane Jones
We're considering a trip to the Flinders Ranges with some friends end of April. Would like some feedback from anyone in the group who has taken their Kedron into this area.
Chris
We LOVE the Flinders. There is free bushcamping in Parachilna Gorge and Brachina Gorge has national park fees applying. We like both but prefer the latter. Also, there is a lovely gorge near the town of Quorn (Warren Gorge) which is quite lovely, with sites all the way down a slope (lots of level spots) overlooking the bluff, or spots down along the -usually dry- river bed and among the pines. It is completely free. Only has drop toilets. There is a nice commercial park at Wilpena Pound and also at Rawnsley. Again it is a matter of preference - we prefer Wilpena. From Brachina and Parachilna you can drive around and look at the area, and the scenery is truly awe inspiring.Chris
Brian and Lis
Robert & Jane, The Flinders are lovely to explore and April is a nice time, popular at Easter and school holidays.Favorite is Brachina Gorge. We may be there ourselves and will keep a look out for you in your Kedron. Lis & Brian Chris, Which of those free camps do you think would hold 10 or more vans in October. Fieldsie
Try the Northern end of the Flinders - the Gammon Ranges. There's a commercial caravan at Arkaroola which is quite nice a litle exy thoughFieldsie
Chris
Brian and Lis,free camps for 10 vans? Don't think any would be guaranteed. You have probably chosen well already at Rawnsley, I think. And it might be getting hot in October so it might be wise to have an aircon alternative with powered sites.Where are you both now? We arrived in Brisbane today.Chris
Guest Kim & Mary Jane
We spent 5 weeks in and around the Flinders Ramges in August 2008 and besides being dry it was truely beautiful. Hawker is well worth a look ,also Rawensly Park is fair. There is a free camp just out of Rawensly Park heading North.Arkaroola is well worth a look, especially now as they had good rain in September/October so everything will be fresh and clean looking. There are also some good 4x4 self drives plus the lookout tour. They have a BBQ night on Sundays around the pool quite appealing when its hot.As mentioned previous Warren Gorge is truelly a beautiful spot (free camping) and yellow footed rock wallabys. The road from Arkaroola through to Yunta is also fairly good, the first section from Arkaroola is a bit rough but the remainder is good crusing at 80kph+If travelling from Broken Hill watch out for the fruit fly inspectors.Have fun you will love it, safe travelling.Kim & MJ
