Does anyone have experience of the track from Lyndhurst to Marree, William Creek and across to Cooper Pedy ?? Obviously the condition varies, but is it generally any problem ?? We're thinking of doing it April / May from the Flinders Ranges.

Hi Peter

Glen & I travelled from Birdsville to Coober Pedy via Maree and onto Alice Springs, etc in 2006 and again in the opposite direction in 2007 and what is a must see if you have time, is Muloorina Station which is approx 1k outside Maree heading up to Lake Eyre. It is a camping area along side a man made lake fed from a bore. It is supposed to have approx 160 different bird species in the area. There are flushing toilets. Campfires allowed - best to take a supply of wood if you can. The cost was $2 per night which was donated to the RFDS. In 2006 we were the only ones there along with another couple we met at Birdsville who asked if they could join us. In 2007 there were approx 4 other campers.

Cheers

Must agree with all of the above

And believe me the stones are baked in the sun and are very hard and cause damage if not properly prepared they dont call it the STONY DESERT for nothing

Did that run last July. The road from Maree to William Creek (Oodnatatta Track) was a piece of cake; the bit from the Wiliam Creek turnoff to Coober Pedy was a bit stonier, but still nothing to worry too much about. But like so many roads out there, it is quite remote - on that second leg, we didn't see another vehicle. So take water and a couple of spare tires!

PS there's only 1 "P" in Coober Pedy . . .
