  1. Hi Kogers,

I have done a lot of research into the diesel heater .

I pulled mine out after it started to smoke on start up and found that the problem was the breather hole near the glow plug was starting to block up , just like in a combustion engine when you stop the air flow they smoke from to much fuel .

I also found that after doing the corner country trip this year without the air intake blocked ( to stop the diesel heater getting dust in) when I pulled it apart , no dust . I will not be going to the trouble to block mine anymore .

To service your heater all you need to buy is a gasket seal the 3rd on the parts list .

There is no need for a special tool to pull your glow plug ( glow pin ) out , just pull the unit apart and then a 12 m spanner will do the job . With the unit striped down a piece of wire to clean the hole that is just at the top of the screen as show on page 28 of the service book . I have attached a service book ( I hope ) airtronic service book.pdf

With the unit out of the van you can have it cleaned and back together in 30 minutes .

  2. Hello Everyone and especially Kate and Craig,

The Silverado is now parked at my home in Cairns. We arrived here yesterday early evening. At Lunchtime five days ago, last Monday, I left Hobart headed for Cairns. The Chevy was a delight to drive and returned an average of 13.5 L/100k which is very impressive as we were cruising at 140 kph out west. Now I have to learn all the clever things it will do and get it matched up to my van.

Gayleen, my beautiful wife has nicknamed it "Hi Ho". Hi Ho Silver............get it? Women!

    Regards

    Colin?

    Hi Col ( Lone Ranger)

Good to see that you made it back home with the steed .

  4. Hi GraemeY,

I was about to start that mod to my van , most people travel during winter it should be a standard fit out with a heater.

I know they do with the ensuite vans.

I have the same lay out as you.

Where did you acquire the fittings ? Dometic parts or other.

    Thanks Nev

  5. Hi Pete,

You can purchase just the glass ( plastic) .

If it is not letting the wet or dust in I would leave it till you get to a larger town /city.

To remove old window , open to max and grab hold of strut near window latch and pull down while holding window, the strut will pop off.

Repeat for other strut and then open window as far as you can and it will drop out of the hinge ( where it is attached to frame).

    I hope this helps.

  6. Hello Koggers,

Now I am safely back home I have been reflecting on the Kedron trip macros the deserts. It was a wonderful group of people and the group possessed a wide variety of very useful skills. Neville, Evo, Stewart and Greg were standouts in the fixing field. Neville in particular has a great depth of skills and knowledge when it comes to fixing things. However, as shown in the picture attached some things were even beyond his skills.

    Regards to all,

    Colin

PS, a Diggers Rust and Stain remover worked a treat on my checkerplate. I gave it two applications of CT18 but the red stain persisted. Wiped the oxalic acid on with a sponge and immediately hosed it off with copious quantities of water. Shines like a new pin!!

I could of fixed it , if I had more time ;)

We have just arrived in Darwin and will be here for a week before heading into Kakadu.

Nice to here those that are home have made it safely.

  7. Ten Kedrons and ten Landcruisers on our trip. This is the Toyota "nothing soft gets in" TVC we spoke about on the trip: http://m.youtube.com...v%3DisC32ev4Lw4

I understand it was made as a joke by their agency, but I saw a short version to air during an AFL final game in 2009 and it was also run once as a print ad in one of the outdoor magazines.

Anyone still out there or are we all home now?

    Andrew

We are at Kununurra making our way to Darwin via what ever looks good

  8. Hi to all those headed to Winton, we have arrived today at the Long Waterhole where we will stay until Thursday as we are booked into the Pelican CP after that. It is glorious out here, the weather is perfect, though very dry and quite windy. Maybe 20 assorted vans here with us, so not too crowded. We will be doing some sightseeing until we meet up with the rest of the group bound for the outback way.

    Cheers
