  1. Hi there Norm & Kabby We were actually in Tassie from mid November which was perfect because it gave us 4 of 5 weeks to visit all the hot spots before their school holidays started. Once their holidays start, about a week before Xmas it is very hard to get into places, so that's when you free-camp more than usual and just cruise around. The showground in Hobart, although not free, is a better alternative to the crowded caravan parks around Hobart. Cheers  Peter & Margaret

    Van for sale

Hi there Darryl. I have checked our Constitution, and you being a financial ordinary member would be covered under Clause 5(3) which states "An ordinary member, life member or honorary life member who ceases to be the owner (or joint owner) of a qualifying unit shall continue to be eligible for membership in the appropriate category provided a replacement unit is aquired within twelve months of disposal of the qualifying unit". So there you are Darryl, you are more than welcome to bring your swag along to our Goomburra gathering. Don't foreget swags for Sue and Mitch. President Pete.
  3. Hi there Lionel and Margaret. You will just love Tassie, it's a place made for travelling. Watch out for the Tassie drivers though, they tend to drive too fast for the unexpected and cut the corners. Margaret and I had 3 months travelling with our ATV for two over the 2008/ 2009 Christmas/ New Year period and just loved every minute of it. Have fun. Peter and Margaret.
  4. Laurie and Helen Thank you for your kind words and your support as we drive this process forward. As Sue mentioned, we still have a few steps to achieve. This will mainly be in Sue's area of expertise in making the website as user friendly as possible for members tansferring to KOG Inc. However, Sue, Ann and myself will be attending a couple of meetings next week to discuss insurance and other related issues, and we are talking several times a week to resolve issues as they come to hand. The Qld. Office of Fair Trading has approved our Constitution and have been issued our Certificate of Incorportation in the name of the Kedron Owners Group Inc., and last week we opened a bank account for the Group. So as you can see, there has been good progress towards meeting our objective. We have set ourselves a time line of 01 September 2009 when we hope to be in a position to call for applications to join the Group. Don't worry if you can't join until October, as the membership fees will be on a monthly pro-rata basis beginning 01 September and decreasing each month ie in October you will pay less! When available, the Membership Application Form will explain the details. Have a good holiday. Pete
  5. Hi there Pete and Tracey. Congratulations on your new van. We run between 28-30PSI on our Landcruiser and van on dirt roads and have not had any problems. You just need to drive at an appropriate speed and re-inflate your tyres back to normal pressures on the black top. Have fun. Peter  (ATV42)
  6. Hi there Alex and Fiona Very sorry to hear about this and hopfully, an isolated incident. As others have said, you are perfectly within your rights to evict anyone who is abusive and swears at you. Everyone has the right to be treated respectfully. Peter (ATV42) :shades:
  7. Hi there. We also use a heavy duty bottle jack (5 ton), and we also carry several pieces of wood, cut in various sizes and thickness, to use as required. Bear in mind you are lifting about 1/2 the weight of the van when changing a tyre. Laurie and Helen, we are currently at Petal Point, overlooking Cape Portland, what a view  . Have a good trip. Peter & Margaret (ATV42)
  8. A belated Happy New Year to everyone. We are down at Cockle Creek in Tassie where it is wet, cold, sunny, overcast, winds to gail force and some small hail this morning and its very wet under foot. One side of our van has sunk about 150mm into the mud. Tassie is beautiful and anyone with a boat would think they are in heaven where we are now; a beautiful bay with sandy beach, also wet, cold etc. We'll have to turn around tomorrow and head north, there are no more roads heading south in Australia!!! We have been in Tassie since 24 Nov and still have about 5 weeks to go. A great place if you don't mind the wind, rain etc. Cheers everyone, stay safe and well. Peter & Margaret (ATV42)
  9. How are the horses :confused1: ATV42
  10. Hi there Rod and Mavis We have a 1998 100series wirh 310000km on th clock. Before our recent trip with out ATV for two, we had the suspension replaced and airbags fitted to the rear. The work was done by Northside 4X4 (ARB agents) near the airport up at Caboulture. Very satisfied with the service and product. Peter (ATV42)
  11. Hi all. We arrived home safe and sound on Monday afternoon. Thanks Bob and Di for organising a great weekend, and for the friendship and good company of all present. We've restocked our ATV for two, and added some more winter gear and will head down to Sydney tommorrow for a couple of weeks. Then its up to Darwin/ Gulf for a while and then down to Tassie for Christmas. We'll catch up with you in Nindigully next April; until we meet again safe travels. Peter & Margaret (ATV42)
  12. Hi there Wanna-B Pleased to hear you've picked up your new van. No doubt you will have many questions about it by the time you get to Kenilworth, I'm sure those present will do their best to answer them and help you out. See you there. Peter & Margaret  (ATV42)
  13. Hi Atie We have an LG500 Next G mobile which we also use as a modem, and can also use an external antenna if required. We are not big internet uses and have found purchasing a Telstra data pack the way to go because you can pay by the month and have it turned off at the end of any particular month. We prefer this situation rather than being locked into a plan for 24 months!!!! This way can purchase a data pack for a couple of months, go on a trip, and have it turned off when we get home. The speed in about 115, a bit slow for some, but fast enough for us. Check with Telstra for prices. Peter  (ATV42
  14. Hi there Ian & Jill Hope this helps in your decision making process. All solar panels loose various degrees of efficiency for a number of reasons. The prime loss is caused by shade on the panels; be it through overcast conditions, trees, time of day/ year, and even the positioning of the panels on the roof of the van e.g. if they are hard up against the roof mounted aircon some area will be shaded by the aircon during the day. No panel is 100% efficient!!! You should also bear in mind that the solar input of flat roof mounted panels is directly related to your location and time of year. Roof mounted work extremley well around Darwin (12 degrees Latitude), whereas they don't work very well in Hobart (43 degrees Latitude). You could expect about 5-6 sun hours in Darwin all year  and about 6 summer, 2 winter in Hobart. In Perth you could expect 7.5 sun hours in summer and about 2 in winter. Idealy solar panels should be angled to the sun relative to the degrees of Latitude, but thats impossible in our caravan situation. In addition to my 6x85 watt monocystalline BP panels (510 watt system), I have a portable setup consisting of 2x65 watt Kyocera panels, PL20 regulator, and 15 meters of lead. This allows the option of positioning the panels as required to charge my vehicle batteries or supplementing the caravan system if its in the shade; worth a thought!!!! Are far as batteries are concerned, I would recommend the 4th. Mainly because of the reasons outlined above, and because you need to get as much 'power' into your batteries in the shortest possible time. Any extra power your solar generates will be lost if you can't store it. I agree with the PL40 idea. You will need a shunt setup if you are wiring up the PL40 to read the load (output) of your system. I certainly agree with the suggestion of getting Collyn Rivers book to learn more about solar systems in caravans. Its a worthwhile read. All the best. Peter (ATV42)
  15. Thanks Mark and Bern for organising the fine (urr wet) weekend at Noosa North Shore  . Just goes to show rain doesn't dampen a good time. We're at Cotton Tree now, over looking the water and basking in the sunshine. Peter & Margaret (ATV42)
  16. Hi there Graham and Sue We carry 2 types of matting in our ATV for two. One is the matting from Camac for grassy sites, the other a thin rubberised stye to use on concrete slabs. Both work well in their respective environments. We used shade cloth way back when we had a camper trailor but GAVE it away because it was very slippery/ danderous when wet!!!!! Peter & Margaret (ATV42)
  17. Hi all In our ATV for two, we switched to BioMagic over 12 months ago, mainly because its septic safe and can be used in long drops. They have a good website so try www.biomagic.com.au for more info. Its about $33 for 1L and about $100 for 4L. Like Chris says, the holding tank needs to be clean and free from other chemical residue. We use about 20ml in the holding tank, and another 20ml in the top tank to freshen things up. Works well for us. Peter & Margaret (ATV42)
  18. Hi there. Once you have physically checked all the connections from the LNB through to the back of the decoder box, then check the display panel is illuminated (light on) in the sat finder. Light on, then power (approx 13.8 volts) is going  the decoder box to the LNB; thats good. No light, then no power getting through; that's bad, recheck connections. If you have to recheck connections again, then perhaps disassemble the system and start again!!!!! If the power is getting through, go over your setup procedure again, making sure you have the correct setup screen on your TV. Hope this helps. Peter (ATV42)
