  1. The following was posted on the Bushtrackers Owners' forum 6/8/08 from sponsor Webasto:- Hello Boggers and Visitors I believe this is the appropriate platform to inform members and visitors that Bushtracker International will no longer be offering the Webasto product on their vehicle. No other reason other than economics where given for the decision and we hope that the cost savings are passed onto the customer for a considerably cheaper product. Webasto wish Steve, Tracey and the staff all the best for the future. The loyalty and praise BT’s owner have shown for our product is considerable and Webasto will become more active on the site to help owners through minor issues they may have with their heaters. We would also like to offer members and future owners the opportunity to have a Webasto heater fitted by us or one of our installation centres at a very competitive price. Webasto will not be at the Quilpie Rally but our congratulations in advance to the winner of the Webasto AT2000st heater and a safe and happy journey to all. Regards Roger Webasto
  2. Just to add, some of us (ours is 2004 XC) have the Truma Boiler and they do not have a sacrificial diode. It is mainly the Suburban and some Atwood storage water heaters that have the diode. BUT a timely reminder for anyone going on a long trip to have one as a spare. Thanks to all
  3. Hi Alan, I did a ring around with insurers when our insurance came up for renewal late last year. We have the car, house and contents with NRMA and their premium was hard to beat with our multi-discount policy with them and other bonusus. At that time I did find a few insurers who would not insure vans over $50,000. A friend also did a ring around with RACQ, NRMA & CIL in the last two weeks for insurance for their camper trailer and ended up going with CIL. Apparently they found CIL were $35 dearer but the excess was less. Hope this helps.
  4. Hi Arthur, We have a Dtronic chip in our TD LC100 series and we pull a 3.2ton KXC. Noted a definate improvement especially with towing. Dazmit sourced ours and hopefully he will post later where he got them from and more techo info. He installed it for us and it fits in behind the glovebox.
  5. Hi Ian, We have 4 x 120 watt panels and 4 batteries. I'm not sure if you have heard of an author, Collyn Rivers. He wrote a book 'Solar that Really Works' which we purchased and then had a brief on-line discussion with him when he was on another forum. In the end we decided to have the 4th battery and panel as my family live in southern NSW so less 'sun hours' down there and we planned to spend time down that way. Virtually he said no good having all that solar coming in if you have nowhere to store it. We also like to run our Engel fridge off the van at times. Good luck with your decision.
  6. Arthur/Adriana, There are a few companies that can look after your mail, two of which Kingy has mentioned. There is some more information on that subject here as well as a link on that site to SOS Mail Solutions.
  7. We second all the comments so far. Funny how when you are having a good time you don't really notice the weather  It was a beautiful sunny day up there today. We've left the van up there (with Margaret as caretaker) and are going back up on Thursday night for the long weekend. Maybe get some fishing in this time. To Mark & Bern many thanks. Look out Milmerran ... will break the drought.
  8. Hi Graham & Sue, We use an Annex Floor Matting put out by the Camec group. Comes in different sizes and colours and allows sand and fluids to pass through it. It is not cheap though and a bit heavier than say shadecloth. Some swear by shadecloth but we found it a bit slippery. There is another product Enduromat Mate but haven't actually seen it. Maybe do a google search as well and see what comes up.
  9. Thanks everyone for your feedback. We may give the BioMagic a try.
  10. I'm looking for feedback on what toilet chemicals people use for their Thetford toilet cassets. We have used the Thetford green and pink chemicals but find the smell from the green one too overpowering. I see they also have a blue colour one but haven't used that. In particular I would like to know:- 1. Does anyone use Biomagic and if so what do you think of it. We don't like anything with too strong a scent. 2. Has anyone used the Thetford blue chemical and if so does it work? 2. We are looking for an environmentally friendly 'biodegradable' chemical so we can empty into say a drop toilet in the bush without upsetting its natural breakdown of the waste. So any other suggestions and if so where do you buy it from?
  11. Hey Jody, Sounds like Roscoe's reply might be from a F250 0wner ! Still, a good story for the 'one that got away'.
  12. Welcome Col & Debbie, You must be excited ... and a long way for you to come for the factory tour and final decisions. Some friends of ours have the Supreme Getaway and they love it. We can only dream at this stage of getting to the Kimberley but its on our list. Hope you enjoy your stay in Brisbane and that all goes well at the factory.
  13. Hi Bob & Di, We use an Annex Floor Netting which we bought from Camec. We find it pretty good and it lets sand and dirt fall through. http://www.camec.com.au/ Look under Awnings and Camping Equipment. Flynnie has another type of matting and it is a bit 'softer' on the feet. I think he got his from Bunnings. We can bring ours up to Island Reach if you want to have a look at it and didn't need to get some before then.
  14. Hi Chris & Val, Great to read your report. Entertaining as usual and I love the pics. We are heading down that way to do the Great Ocean Road trip in Oct/Nov so some of the information will be most useful.
  15. Just being the 'devil's advocate' here - another Kedron owner I know went for the Queen size bed and said one of the 'downsides' of that decision was the wardrobes beside the bed are narrower and hence less space for your clothes. That may or may not be a consideration for you. Good luck with your decisions.
  16. Hi Kimbo, That map should be useful to a number of members. So it doesn't disappear into the posts over time maybe you could place it in Hints & Tips or under Trip Reports. Just a thought.
  17. Hi Roscoe, I think I will just take a short cut and travel with you and Chris  Didn't see your drinking shirt on your list :shades:
  18. Hi Ian & Jill, We camped one Xmas near Brisbane when the temps were about 38- 40 degrees and ran an Engel as a drinks fridge (not as a freezer). We have a 230 lit Vitro frigo and were using power in the evenings to watch a DVD so nothing too excessive. We have 4 panels and 4 batteries and we experienced the batteries running down and funny read-outs on the regulator/thingo (senior's moment  ). What we think occurred, after talking to Kimbo & Darryl, was the solar panels actually drop in efficiency in high temperatures so the batteries were not receiving a good charge. In the end we had to run the genny to charge the batteries. Kimbo said he experienced a similar episode when he did his trip to the Gulf so maybe he will add more.
  19. Hi Sid & Sandie, At the risk of hijacking the thread ... welcome also to KOG. Our 2004 XC has the ATV axles but is mainly a XC and we love it.
  20. Hi Chris & Brian, Welcome to the group. People seem a bit quite in responding probably due to the Christmas break. I don't know the mirrors to which you refer. A number of group members have strap on type mirrors that attach to the vehicles existing mirrors. We have Aussie Truck Mirrors which we find does us. These and the strap on type mirrors are easier to adjust from inside the cab of the vehicle where those on the bonnett or bull bar would be out of arms reach to adjust so a good set up would be required before setting off. Maybe others will have more to add later. Hope to meet up with you both sometime down the track. Ann
  21. Hi Meg & Marty, We had the same thing happen to us the first two trips and then worked out we were filling with too much water pressure and the tanks were not filling. Ours is a 2004 XC with the one filler for shower and general water tanks plus a separate filler for the drinking water. We found you need to slowly fill the tanks over some time to enable them to fill properly. The tanks are linked by a hose so say the first tank fills and it takes time for water to flow through the hose into the next tank and so on depending how many tanks you have. The newer vans have separate fillers for the tanks so it may be an airlock as suggested by Kimbo. Just turn the pump on and let a bit of water run through the kitchen tap and that may help expel the air.
  22. Hi Darryl, Just looking at some info in my NSW folder here and there is an article about Wollomombi Falls, one of Australia's tallest, is halfway between Ebor & Armidale. http://www.armidale.info/nationalparks/wollomombifalls.htm There are a couple of links on the page as well that you may find interesting.
