  1. I agree with John completely.  Terry from T1Lithium at Mannum is wonderful. We put our system of 520 ah in our van, but on reflection 400 ah would be adequate. People come from all over Australia to see him.  His phone is 0414 819 826

I have heard good things about iTech batteries but have no direct knowledge.

  2. We are camping at a campground called Wrights Bay, between Kingston and Robe, South Australia.  Right now we are camped with fellow Kedronners Anthony and Keera, who thought they would like to check the place out for a later informal gathering.

A nice spot, it’s near the beach and has green grass!  And lots in the region to see and do!

  3. Every now and then you find a nice camp.  This one has loads of space and great views but absolutely no facilities.   Right now we are camped here with only one other van, a motorhome.  (I am told it gets busy on public holidays and long weekends...). Based on the shores of Lake Alexandrina, there is a lot of birdlife to see, and fisherpeople seem to come out ea day to try their luck.  I think the only fish are carp.

the nearest town is Milang, about 40 kms, or Goolwa which is the same distance.

Anyway, you can see it is lovely.

    Hi Chris and Tony

We have had an Altech for possibly 6 years without a problem. We are currently at Maroochydore (working our way slowly to Kilkivan) and by coincidence took a drive today to SatPlus at Noosaville where we bought one of its folding fibreglass dishes sometime back, and a satellite locator a few months back, both to replace fairly basic items. Today's purchase was the latest model Altech, only as it has a twin tuner, not because of a problem with the existing one.

While there I talked to John the owner about problems with Altechs and he acknowledged early ones had a few glitches but a software upgrade fixed them and he said problems now are extremely rare.

Our older Altech is for sale for $100. Chris, if you were interested it's a pity you are in SA.

We ARE interested!   When you have time, whack it into a suitably padded box and mail it to us.  I will PM you our email and contact details.  This is very good timing.🤗

  5. So sad.  After quite a few years of solid service the sat TV set top box is broken.  Sob.  We are in Kingston SE, on the SA Limestone Coast and no one has a new one here (it’s a small town).  So for this week’s trip we will have to either access whatever can be seen on local reception or do without.

Ah well, we are only away for a week....

Our Vice President, Chris Martins lives in the Barossa area, Im very confident see will see this post and make contact with you!

    Travel safe,

I will be in touch with Tony separately.  Coincidentally, I had been about to make a separate suggestion on this forum about such a gathering.  The last time I asked (a few years ago now, admittedly) there was no interest.  But I personally know four other Kedrons all near where I live in SA.  It would be great to arrange a get together.

  7. We have friends whose female partner cannot drive the bigger vehicle out shopping.  Both admit that many times they have o park some distance away from where they want to go, just to fit a parking spot.  Another member of a forum sold their almost new van and car because the vehicle could not be turned around in a parking area on the Great Ocean Road....the last straw, apparently.

But if you are a very competent driver who does not mind the difficulties in finding parking, all would be well.

We had lunch at Malcolm dam and camped at Giles Breakaway on the ridge terrific views there . Second night at old Great central rd lookout, meet a dingo there .

    (snip)...

Another great site parked on the ridge. Took a bit to get the van in but it was worth it. Only trouble there is the toilet paper in the bush . People must think that it may grow!!!

Am not sure of that lookout camp site, or “the old Great Central Road”.  But we did like the Giles Breakaways!

I am guessing the ridge top spot was at Redbank Gorge?  One of our firm favourites.

Great Central is seriously dusty. Docker to the east has recently been graded but has quickly become rough due to high traffic plus it’s a bugger of a section. If interested in going off the Great Central and visiting the Surveyor General Corner the road down to Wingellina is ok as is the the road from Wingellina to Warburton (bit rough watch for camels). Make sure you ring Mark the community officer  (0427 031 926) at Wingellina before going into town to make sure it’s safe as it’s a closed community. It’s $50 to visit the corner with no guide, $100 with guide. Private road out to the corner is very nastily corrugated. To be taken seriously but is easily doable with a van.

Road from Warburton to Laverton is ok but watch for mine road trains from Gile Breakaway to Laverton.

I would love to hear more about that loop down to the corner.  What previous advice had you received about it?  Any special notes, or photos?  Thanks for sharing this with us!

Just completed the Great Central road west to east . The road to Warburton wasn’t too bad at all but things deteriorated from then on . It was very rough both the WA and NT sections . The dust was horrendous as causing us some drama but we did enjoy the trip over thanks to the Kedron.

We also traveled the Mereenie loop which was fantastic drive following the Ranges into Alice Springs. Damage: one caravan tyre demolished and a leaking gas pipe on the water heater. Both repaired now . We were planning to do the Tanami track but chickened our had enough dust for a while so doing the loop up to Katherine then head west to the coast .

We too enjoyed the Mereenie Loop and thought it was a great shortcut.  But not for a lesser van 😁  where did you camp in the West Macdonnells?  And which camps did you stay at on the GCR?

    Hi Chris,

I just spoke to Gemma regarding payment for my order and she advised that they have only received about one third of the orders required to justify another production run.

Therefore whoever needs new covers, please order asap.

    Best regards

    Barry

    Thanks Barry!

a timely reminder that anyone requiring new covers should get in touch with Gemma (details above).

  12. Now, fellow KOGGERS, I do know that our lovely off-road vans do not often stay at powered camp sites. But for those occasions when it is necessary (in bad weather or because you want power to recharge the batteries etc) it can be handy to have access to reasonably priced power.

I have compiled a list of sites around Australia which provide power (and generally also water, toilets and showers) for $15 or less a night.  A few sites in my list are slightly more, but I think it’s only three which are more than the $15 cut off fee.

i have also placed the list on another forum, Caravaners Forum.

if you know of others, let me know.CHEAP POWERED SITES.rtf

  13. A third run is being organised.

Hi Members,  We are now taking orders for our 3rd run of Custom Light Covers. Please contact me on 0423987478 or gemma@fairlite.com.au to place an order. Hopefully we can collect enough orders for August production... so tell a friend.  Thank you in advance.
