About Me

Started traveling Oz early in 2007 with a Kimberley Kamper. After a freezing winter in Alice Springs and a wet summer in the Northern Rivers area of NSW, we decided that the Kamper had to go and we ordered the Kedron. Took delivery of the Top Ender 12 months and two weeks later in December 2008.

Since then it has been over the Many iconic roads and tracks including the Gibb River Road, Savannah Way, Plenty and Donoghue Hwys, Birdsville Track, Cape York Development Road, the Great Central Road and many rough roads in the Pilbara region of WA with nothing more than a drawer falling out and a screw falling out of a knob. We have had some disappointing water leaks in the roof and a leak around the outlet hose of the drinking water tank as well as being constantly concerned about the excessive ball-weight - but all-in-all are pretty impressed with the way that the van has held together.

We work as we travel and have never had trouble finding a job. Currently we are at Evans Head in NSW, working at, what we've been told, is the largest caravan park in NSW Our contract, for 12 months, ends in late November but we are thinking of re-signing..

Where next? Not sure. We are having a great time exploring the region where we are at the moment. The area has some of the nicest coastline in Australia and the fishing's pretty good too, once you work out what the buggers are up to.

We had a dinghy when we set off on our travels but traded up to a kayak, which gets used much more. It is a two-seater, so we can both go out in it together. We also have added a single-seater kayak to our fleet and, when viewed from the front, our vehicle looks like it has a couple of multicoloured blimps mounted on its roof when we are traveling. Kayaks are great fun but they don't get used much in croc country. Footnote: The two-seater has been given to our Son and I have now got a single-seater, dedicated fishing kayak to replace it. The double weighed in at 37Kg and was getting a bit hard to throw up onto the roof of the car.

While traveling we have met quite a few Koggers, some of whom are members of this forum, and it's always great to have a yarn over a nice chardy (or beer, or scotch, or champers - we're not prejudiced.)

We don't have a home to go to - all of Australia is now our home. At the moment we can't see ourselves giving up the travel and work lifestyle.
