RV Villages

I hope this isn't a taboo subject - so to avoid possibly falling into the advertising category I will not use the commercial name of the place unless I get the all clear.

I know when we were at Goomeri one of our esteemed members and his beautiful wife were chatting around the PIG about buying into an RV Village. At the time we thought, Hmmm... nice for them but maybe not for us but the seed was there although I have to say we didn't really look on the internet at that stage. Moving along. Other geocaching friends of ours have been permanently on the road for the past 7 years, never going to buy a home again! Imagine our surprise when I received an email on the weekend saying that they visited a "village" fell in love with it and have made a purchase, moving in in 2014. This triggered the fingers into action and with nothing better to do at the time we went surfing.

Our initial reaction is that we like what we see and I have actually emailed away for some more information to satisfy our curiosity. The whole thing has stimulated some thoughts and conversation between Ian and I and I am wondering what you guys think.

Things that stand out are that your home and possessions are secure whilst you are travelling and that is very appealing. The location of this particular facility is also a plus. Whilst living in a village with likeminded people sort of appeals to me I do have apprehensions about privacy after coming across a couple a few years ago who lived in an over 55"s retirement place in WA. The chap was probably around 75 years young and was telling us that it was the worst move he had ever made and found he wanted to go off in his caravan all the time to get away from the "home politics". Our conversation has always stayed with me as it obviously quite upset him. Bringing that thought forward to the RV village with its gym, tennis courts, bowling community centre etc etc, I can't help but wonder if what seems good on the surface might cause similar problems for some. Ian and I for example, don't mind socialising occasionally but don't necessarily want to feel that we have to go do something because everyone else is, if you get where I am coming from.

Thought I would put it out there as I am really interested to hear what you all think. Meantime I can't wait to see what they send me as I have heaps of questions about what you can and can't do if you buy in.

Happy travels all,

Sue

Do your research throughly

Are you buying a freehold lot or a lease ?

If a lease 99 year or term of your life and what are the conditions should you wish to leave or come to the end of the road so to speak

What costs are involved eg: body coporate fees, local authority rates and charges etc

The above varies from State to State.

Regards

Jaap

PS I never going there no matter how old I get
