Hermit
Hi all, I am looking at a "Powertech" 180w inverter from Jaycar to power my Vast box and Fox box when free camping.Has anyone had any experience with this brand of inverter? Also, could I leave the inverter permanently connected and run the tv boxes from it instead of having to connect them to the inverter when off the grid? Thanks for any advice or infoRegardsRob
Grahame and Wendy Roberts
Rob,I recommend you think a little bigger than this. If you go for something like a 600 watt unit, full sine wave it will run a small kitchen appliance like a "whizzer stick" and has some spare capacity. 600 W will NOT run a small hair drier, toaster or washing machine, but it will run the laptop + printer + battery chargers + iPhone etc all at once. Arrange the installation so the inverter can be switched on/off from inside the van and is not mounted on the headboard of the bed. There is nothing more annoying than having finished the TV program than having to go outside to switch off the inverter so it does not hum during the night. Get a brand name inverter, I like Latronics - Australian design and manufacture on the Sunshine Coast by competent people. It will still be giving good service in 10 years while your Taiwan model probably wont be. I have no financial interest in Latronics.
