Balanced Towing Set-up

Recommended Posts

Towing 2006 Kedron ATV with extended drawbar with Toyota series 100 Landcruiser fitted with airbags - measured download on van drawbar fully loaded is 200 kg - came complete with Hayman Reece torsion bar load sharing kit and adjustable ball mount assembly. Have tried travelling with and without the Hayman Reece system ( which adds about 25 kg at the ball ) with no apparent difference in performance -  using the air bags to achieve level travel.  Am I missing something ?? Comments and advice are very welcome .

Hi Geoff

It sounds like the air bags are doing exactly what they are supposed to.  Wdh actually transfer some of the vans weight to the front of the tow vehicle, air bags won't.  Use which ever you feel comfortable with that gives you the best ride/handling.

cheers

Hi Geoff and Marion

RACQ circulated an email recently which really explains a huge amount about Weight Distribution Hitches. Google RACQ Getting The Balance Right, to watch it.

Air bags and WDHs have different functions and may complement each other, but bags are not an alternative to be used solely.

Regards
