  1. Hang on David, theres a few of us (not many) that have the ultimate tow vehicle - the F250.

4500kg towing capacity and similar consumption to the toyos.

With your big Top Ender you should consider changing over. LOL

  2. We know the feeling.

You see you never hear these words of grief from Toyota owners

The Nissan becomes a loved member of your family.

Its a pity Nissan hasnt develloped a bigger V8 to rival the Toyotas.

Ah Ah. I just realised Navigator is a GPS unit. I like Sue have a PDA. Mine has Tom Tom built in.

I have loaded Oziexplorer but as explained before do not know how to use 100% effectively.

The benefit of this system is that (when I know how) I can plan out a trip and load it into the PDA or just follow my position on the laptop as I travel.

If you want a good site to help you and in my case, really confuse you about GPS units try:

  4. I bought one. I have loaded it into Oziexplorer and am currently learning how to use it.

Hema comes with an abbreviated version of Oziexplorer.

I dont know the difference as yet. I believe Maddog is the expert. With a bit of coercing he may hold a beginners class at Vic High Country gathering!

    Cheers,

  5. Just as we have decided to bite the bullit and travel full time we get with this fuel price explosion. Rats!!!

I was going to put a large long range tank into the F250. At around $2K I thought this is going to take a lot of miles at city prices to break even. Also I doubt when I come to resell the truck I will get any money back for the tank.

Sooo I bought one of these: http://fueltanksruscomau.melbourneitwebsit...ategory_id=1720

I purchased the 200 Litre model. It sits in the back nicely and can be removed easily and can be sold when I no longer need it. For the Nissan, Toyota and other vehicle owners the 100 litre one may be more practical.

Try covering all panels but one with a blanket or cardboard then take a reading. Repeat this for each of the other panels. This should tell you which panel is down on charge, if any.

  7. Just bought these yesterday at the show. I spotted them on the internet 6 months ago and a local took the initiative to import them. They were selling in the US for UD$500 and yesterday I bought them for $399.

They look very smart and should save the van and truck's back window.

They are universal and should fit most 4WD's.

  8. I don't know that brand however it may be one of the many Honda copies coming out of China. I have heard of testing on the other brands and the reports are that they won't run the airconditioner on the van. They simply die when you put that sort of load on. If you talk to the forum I'm sure the concensus would be Honda, Honda, Honda or Yahama, Yahama, Yahama.

I would suggest you get a guarantee from the dealer that it will run an A/C if that is your ultimate goal.

Better still take the van with you and test it yourself.

If you just want to run lights and an engel they may be satisfactory.

    Hope this is helpful,

  9. Hi you all.

Sorry to hear the weekend was weather unfriendly.

I'm sure you all had a laugh though.

Still even sorrier we couldn't make it.

PS Were suffering the opposite - unbearably hot & humid.

  10. I have a Vacuflush toilet in my boat and theyre great. No smell or chemicals and use very little water.

    The holding tank is big.

I looked at using the Dometic for our new van and Stan suprisingly said they would install one if requested.

The Dometic unit is great for an awkward install because the holding tank is remote from the toilet and I liked the ceramic bowl as apposed to plastic. The big downside is the small cassette. Only 14 litres. As I think all caravanners will agree toilet duties are a downer and increasing those duties is madness. This caused us to drop that idea.

On the Birdsville gathering my friend tagged along in a camper trailer. One day when we stopped for the night and raised the top, one of the halogen lights had switched itself on and it had burnt through the folded clears and the matress. He was lucky it didnt turn into a fireball. The manufacturer did fix it.

Just goes to show the dangers of halogens.

It may be worth replacing them with LED replacement globes. No heat and less power consumption.
