  1. Greetings all! Jim and I (both solid 6-footers-plus) are keen to know whether any Kedron owners have replaced their cafe seating with swivel recliners plus leg-supports in order to achieve more comfy seating for both reading and watching tv. Okay, we know we should be outside, sitting by the campfire and possum-spotting, but that isn't the sum total of life....especially on cold, wet evenings such as right now! If anyone can guide us to such a conversion, we would be most grateful. Once back in Newcastle we will ask the boys at Brenlea....meanwhile we are coming to the end of a truly wonderful 6months in superb Tasmania, and yes, the Kedron has done us proud and by now sure feels like 'home'. Oh, and sorry this is overdue: "MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR, KEDRON FRIENDS ALL!!!"
  2. Hi Reg and Fran, Re number 2's, a small fold of toot paper strategically placed prior to lowering one's posterior also works wonders! Happy travelling, Steve.
  3. Rick and Lea raise a valid point....for those of us w/out cheque accounts, money orders are half the cost of bank cheques....as I discovered too late after mailing my form today...sorry Chris, you've been pipped at the post! Drinks on me next meeting... Cheers, Steve.
  4. Good Morning, Kedron Owners Group Inc., and Congratulations to our hard-working Commitee!! Just one point on which I'd like to seek clarification.... Can we use the same Username (and also Password) for both FORUM and Gatherings Page????? Cheers all, Steve.
  5. Hi Reg and Fran...('got your email), Truckies from my 1980/90's working past used to warn me against towing in highest gear...that was then... When Ben at the Brendale factory took me round the block to set the brakes, he had my LC200 (auto) in manual 4th, and suggested using this gear around town, but otherwise cruising in auto on the open road. On the other hand, Toyota's service manager in Brisbane uses auto even around town when towing his Kedron, and swears this is intended for the 200series. The much-caravanned leader of our Towed course also suggested (as per previous posts) using the auto/higher gears everywhere if not under stress, and also recommended cruising around the posted limit. He pointed out that the shifting revs load around 80kph was far greater than that when cruising around 90-100. Happy travels! Steve.
  6. Firstly, thanks to the responders to my earlier post...and the welcoming congrats re the new TE! MUCH APPRECIATED! My locknuts concerns involved not just the TE spares, but the fact that a potentially appetizing 11 new alloy wheels and Silent Armour tyres were going to be sitting out in the boondocks while Jim and I were bushwalking. I didn't fancy worrying about how much H2O was left in the tanks while replacements reached us! After doing all the footwork, tyre co's, Speco, etc, I finally accepted that noone had a product designed for the 200's 14mmx1.5x33mm studs and encapsulated nuts. One ex-China product looked good...'washer included', but it sheared with the slightest crimping-up, and I had to have a nut welded on in-situ (heart-in-mouth time!) to get the bugger off. No more Repco, Supercheap, etc suggestions, thanks. And so back to Bob Jane/Beaurepaire sources, where Speedy High Security Locks (14M1.5 short shank) were chosen. Next stop: Promac Engineering in Newcastle, where m'mate Gene machined the Toyota nuts in half just out from the washer, added a half-depth 27mm nut and 'coned out' the interior to seat the Speedy Lock. The reduced original nut can be torqued to match the other four (96ftlbs), and then the Speedy Lock can be secured with plenty of thread still available. By the way, the newly machined Toyota/Kedron nuts were re-chromed before refitting, to prevent rust. Okay, so it cost me $20/wheel all-up, but I know those 8 wheels plus two spares are going nowhere unless I'm driving them! I had 12 nuts rebuilt...the two spare nuts double-up on the TE spare wheels. After all that, the Talon hitch-lock and Klampit (E-size=17"wheels) may seem like overkill, but I'm sleeping easy, even if a certain song from Porgy and Bess is trying to tell me somethin'! Hope this helps someone out there.... Cheers, Steve.
  7. Hi all members, and especially those kind souls who nurtured us through "the birthing process". Yes, the new TE was born on August 3, 'shaken-down' for a week in glorious Samford showground, and driven somewhat nervously home to Newcastle... even got a tad dusty in Coopernook SF! Right now I am, like Bruce and Sue, angsting over the security of all wheels, not just the spares. It appears noone is even contemplating making locknuts to suit the LC200 alloy wheels, and of course the TE bears identical wheels, so where to now?? If anyone has found suitable (quality) locknuts, and can guide me to a supplier, I'd be very grateful for your help!! Many thanks... and as soon as I've read all the Black Bible manuals, I'll add a photo, etc! Cheers, Steve.
  8. Welcome, Bob and Annette, to a wonderful new family! I always thought Sawtell was 'the place to be south of Coffs', but now I've looked up Mylestom on the map, and the very fact that it is even printed smaller means INSTANT APPEAL in my book! I also have family-name connections to Nambucca... and memories. So, where may we someday freecamp in/near Mylestom? Congratulations on your expected new-born TE... a mate and I are in the same boat: due August 3rd... now there's a first!... and we have been overwhelmed by the generosity of KOG members in helping us solve questions aplenty... none were considered too trivial. Happy researching, Steve McClung
  9. At long last, the "pressing issues of working life" have been resolved, the Seniors Card is in my wallet, and I can give all my focus to The Dream! The LC200 TTD, suitably GVM-ed, awaits pick-up from Scifleet in Brisbane next Tuesday, and the 18'6" Topender is on order for early August.... and am I starting to feel as excited as Chris?: you betcha!! A mate, Jim, and I joined and have been reviewing KOG Forum since ordering the van last July, but this is the first time I have posted. At this stage, I just want to thank those we have met (Kimbo and Nerida, Chris and Val) for all their help and advice, plus those we have read (Webby, cvtripper, TonyH.. indeed all of you.) You have led us to Knowledge-in-Abundance re the up-coming "investment", and encouraged our confidence to grab the adventure and run with it, commencing from Newcastle in October, after some pre-requisite hands-on training, given that a TE far exceeds the 800kg KK we have towed to date. He doesn't know it yet, but Stan at Brendale thanks you too....my 10 pages of questions for him next Tuesday have been reduced to 4!! I trust Jim and I will someday "carry our weight" within the Kedron Family by helping other newcomers equally generously as our own lessons are learned and wisdom gained. Meanwhile, under the red dirt, look for the Silver Pearl and Shale Grey... and the billy will soon be boiling! Stay happy! Steve.
