  1. Whitney Houston concert.

Wow what a disappointment complete waste of money.

She was obviously not capable of performing to expectations. The Great lady was not nearly up to scratch and a real disappointment.

All the adverse news reports are true. She didn't really finish one remembered song. She was gasping for breath, sweating like a sick lady (perhaps she was).

For the thousands that paid big bucks we join you all in being pi..ed of.

Have read the reports and I am glad it was not just us.

I commented on the Herald Sun report (item 117) and it was published along with around 175 other mixed comments some good but most bad and some should never have made the grade for publication.

Obviously a lot of unhappy people as were we.

    Bugger.

    AC DC should be great.

We are off to see Deep Purple April 27.

I am under threat of death if we miss it grin.

While we were living in Singapore and Mavis had a trip home to Aus I managed to get a ticket to their open air concert. Wow what a performance.

My biggest mistake was raving about the performance to all and sundry,(Mavis heard about it  )

and I was in trouble,so this is the make up

  2. Hi all.

Have to say that we have had the use of RACQ's sister organization the NRMA in NSW without fault.

The need arose when our 2000 model 3L Nissan Patrol blew the engine ( as the early models do) on our way home after 7 glorious months on the road.

This happened about 30kms out from Merriwa near Newcastle.

The gentleman with the recovery truck loaded our poor dead Nissan which was fully laden ( weight unknown but obviously heavy).

This guy made the statement then that they were not supposed to tow vans but after I had fitted our tow ball to his truck he did transport the van to the van park in Merriwa (with the car on the truck) luckily.

    Guess we were lucky.

  3. Greeting all.

I thank you all very much for the invaluable input.

We will let you all know when we have jumped in. Probably with a selcall attached to the notification

Pretty sound advice thanks Tony and Wendy to have the back up of sat.

As we are pretty tied to Brisbane for the foreseeable future (short trips 1 month max), the HF will be the go initially so as to get used to the operating protocols and catch up with you all.

    Thanks again guy's.

  4. Greetings all.

I would like to steer some comment our way on the virtues or otherwise of HF over Sat communications for we grey nomads.

Any worthwhile comments and experiences would be appreciated.

I/We are currently leaning towards HF.

    Comments please

Regards and happy travels to all.

  5. Greetings all.

Today we are the proud owners of a new washing machine for the van.

Never having had one before you can be sure that we/I did the complete investigation on what was right for our situation.

We ended up with the Lemair XQB22 top loader.

This baby will run beautifully on our inverter (Xantrex 1000 W) and is great on water usage with interrupted cycles not a problem, so we can just spin or any combination of cycles that suite us.

Having had the offer of a discount from Ca?ec we did look very hard at alternatives (being of Scottish extraction we/I needed to save the maximum )

We ended up buying from "Appliances on Line" at http://www.appliancesonline.com.au/

This saved us in excess of $100 from the offer of mates rates from Ca?ec.

You do have to look around and I have to say that specialist caravan suppliers are not cheap so do your homework on purchases guy's.

We would recommend this mob as somewhere to look for purchases of appliances. We got free delivery to our address in Brisbane.

    Happy travels to all.

  6. Concur with Tony H

Be very careful where you install the main body of the unit as it will sence the temperature of the environment in which it lives. The thermostat sensor is in the inlet of the module.

The concequence of this is if it is in a cupboard the outlet ducting will be hot which also passes through the cupboard so the unit thinks that the desired operating temperature has been reached and will back off the heat. Thus not giving a satisfactory temp. increase in the van.

The way to rectify this is with a ducted inlet to the heater from a remote point in the cabin.

    Good luck.

  7. When a man attempted to siphon gasoline from a motor home parked on a Seattle street by sucking on a hose, he got much more than he bargained for.. Police arrived at the scene to find a very sick man curled up next to a motor home near spilled sewage. A police spokesman said that the man admitted to trying to steal gasoline, but he plugged his siphon hose into the motor home's sewage tank by mistake. The owner of the vehicle declined to press charges saying that it was the best laugh he'd ever had.

  8. Hi Guy's and a very Happy New Year to you both.

We have welded the home made equivalent of a Hayman Reece receiver to the bar between the spare tires as seen in the pics.

We carry a standard tongue and ball in case we need to tow a standard trailer with the car, we just fit this to the car.

The bike carrier as seen is a standard unit for clearing rear carried wheels so we can also fit this entire assembly to the car to carry the bikes.

Bear in mind this entire carrier was heavily re enforced due to cracking, but works well.

Hint if you fit something up, be sure to cover the bikes as red dust (from experience) is a bugger to get out of gears and lubed bits  .

Great work on the hitch lock Col & Debbie

  9. Greetings Peter and Tracy We have a 2002 model TD Turbo auto cruiser (only 4 speed) that we downgraded from a 3L 2000 model Patrol through necessity.

The 3l 2000 model blew the engine at 150,000 k's as they did but was a great tow vehicle.

Our van was purchased in 2005 and was sold by Kedron as a van suited the 3L Nissan the Prado and the Pajaro (autos). When we picked it up it was very marginal at 2340 kg's net being that the vehicles were only rated at 2500kg's.

Due to further mods later on our van (extra water tanks solar panels and other necessary weight increases) it was decided to "upgrade to a vehicle that was rated at a legal weight" (100 series auto IFS front end).

The so-called upgrade was a disappointment for us. The towing ability of this machine was quite inferior to the Nissan. In fairness I think this was my fault in not getting a 5 speed later model, because the performance as stated by the owners of these later beasties is purported to be supremely better than ours. The lack luster performance was checked on the dyno at AAMS and confirmed to be at rated manufacturer output. So as you do when not happy we decided to have a 3" exhaust fitted. This mod made a massive difference to the torque and general pulling power. But as you do when not happy we decided that a chip needed to be installed as well so went ahead at a later date and had AMMS install a chip that was tuned on the DYNO for towing performance and economy. Again a big improvement.

Unfortunately still not happy Jan. Waiting for the new V6/V8 Renault Nissan to come out and will take it from there due to the not great stats on the 200 Toyota.

This should cause some input grin.

  10. Greetings Carl.

Without being a smarty,I would honestly suggest a good professional have a go at it.

You need the correct tooling for the replacement of terminals in the leads to ensure a good job.

You may even need to replace the plug and socket to get a proper connection.

    Regards.

    Mavis and Rod.
