    Thanks all for your kind words and I will miss the van and people of the forum.

    Due to other interests & committments etc we have made the difficult decision to sell our much loved Kedron. :sad:

    Hi Ian & Jill

    Good on you for actually weighing it - a lot of people guess their towball weight and van weight and then present it as fact :confused:

    I'm assuming you have a front bed model with all that lovely storage space up front to fill up so the only real options are to cut back on what you pack, relocate some heavier stuff in front of the axle to behind the axle which doesn't mean build a big storage box on the rear and fill it with heavy stuff.

    Maybe look at moving the front water tank to behind the axles.

    Last option is buy a F250 :sad:

  11. Safari DTronic or Steinbauer Chip

    Hi

    I've had a Dtronic fitted to the 100 series from middle of 2004 with no problems. You can feel the differance and it helps eliminate the lag when starting off etc. I also fitted a 3" exhaust 2 years ago and that improved it even more - especially when overtaking slower vans, motorhomes etc :thumbsup:

    I hope the next G aerial folds down - actually a close up pic of it would be good as that's where i was thinking of mounting one on our van.

    That's certainly a shame.

    The main problem with front diffs on 100 series is if performing snatch strap recoveries (on Nissan's - couldn't resist that one :biggrin: ) in reverse.

    Since Toyota did the recall on the IFS arms there has not been one reported breakage of a IFS arm on any of the 4WD forums I frequent so that is a non issue IMO.

    Having had a test drive of a 4.2l Nissan when looking at vehicles I was very underwhelmed with it's performance compared to eith er the 3l Patrol or the TD Cruiser - IMO it's no comparison and the auto in the Cruiser makes it so much nicer for towing through cities etc.

    The Cruisers do perform much better from the bottom end with a chip and 3" exhaust too.

    You would have to think with Diesel still 35c/litre dearer than petrol that the V8 petrol Cruiser would be cheaper to run but it wouldn't have the range of a diesel or the Tough sound :thumbsup:

    Hi Chris

    We used it as a short cut from Alice to Brisbane so it was worth it in that regard - the big termite mound was about the only thing of interest for us but as we weren't looking to smell the roses we didn't.

    I'd certainly go over it again if going from Brisb to Alice etc as it's certainly more interesting than the longer bitumen run up to Isa, 3 ways etc.

    As Kimbo mentioned we did it last year late May or Early June , we left alice and stayed to Tobermorey on the first day and then Tobermorey to Boulia the 2nd day. Tobermorey is now closed for fuel & camping which is a shame.

    Gem tree at the alice end is a nice spot and we would plan on staying there for a couple of nights next time.

    Road conditions were good and could sit on 80 km/hr comfortably had to overtake a Pheonix and Kimberley Camper who going way to slow for us. No damage to van or car and I was running 25 psi in the van tyres. :thumbsup:

    Friends of ours went over the plenty approx 3-4 weeks after us and the corros broke their Dometic A/C - It was a Bushtracker though :laugh:

    The Plenty was a lot better than the Tanami.

    Funny thing was we had a heap of bikes on trailers and utes coming the opposite way.

    Hi Pat

    I ran the power from the 12V supply behind the fridge and brought it in through the door rubber. The fan runs the whole time but I did fit a on/off switch inside the fridge so i can actually turn it off.

    Forgot to answer some of your other questions -

    Kedron use a fully hot dip gal chassis as opposed to just a gal A-frame - the gal adds weight.

    Look at the amount of steel in a Kedron chassis, there is a lot more of it hence more weight down nice and low.

    Are you comparing apples with apples - a 19'6" internal is the external body length of 21' whereas the 20' in the other brand is pretty well the internal and external body length as they don't have a boot.

    I remember reading on another forum where a stated average weight of of a typical 19' was 2600 kg or so and a owner came on and said their half loaded 19' weighed very close to 3500kg when put over a weigh bridge, they weighed all their contents and came up with something like 600kg ,when asked of the manufacturer what would cause the 200kg odd disreprency in the plated empty weight to what they believe the empty weight to be, he replied it could be water left in the pipes etc :confused1:

    My suggestion is either a smaller TE or go to a lighter ATV - The ATV is still plenty strong enough to do all the main roads like Plenty, Gibb, Tanami etc as our XC has proved that.
