  1. Hi all

Well we made it back to Brissy safe and well for a short stay before heading off to Newcastle more to come on the 200 and towing later  Awesome thou

As for the hot water service I am like Len and Lynda we are on the 2nd van our 1st having the truma but only in gas model and it worked fine we now have the suburban in the Topender and other than being a bigger tank 21ltrs versus 14ltres we cant fault either but I do prefer the larger suburban. As far as the use of the gas 9kg bottle last a LONG time and I dont turn it off when we are camped. We can get 2 showers if we are frivoulous

I have heard of issues of tanks in the trumas failing and we did have one truma tank split with companions who were travelling with us up in the gulf maybe they might come on here and tell of the bush fix they did ??

The suburban Gas / electric models I have heard issues of the electric element snapping and laying inside the tank but cant confirm this.Seems logical to me that this could happen as the element just screws in and isnt supported so on rough rds I reckon the bouncing and unsupported heating element with age would be vunerable to snapping off Just my opinion thou.

I like things simple and easy and to me gas isnt that dear and between 6/8 weeks from 1/ 9kg bottle is easy and simple and as I steer away from van parks as much as possible the electric element IMO is a waste of time

    Hope this helps

    Regards

    Kimbo

  2. Although Brian you forgot to mention the additional resale price of the TD compared to petrol and the advantage of 650km range compared to 400km range, the additional range could save the additional expense (roughly $5000) of a long range tank and associated rear wheel carrier.

Plus you have to allow for the great tough sound of a TD

    Cheers

  3. Hi David

    I use 19 - 20l /100km towing but do generally sit on 95 - 100km/hr and don't baby it. Not towing around town 11.5 - 12l/100km.

TD 100 series chipped and 3" exhaust

    Cheers

  4. I previously had a Voyager controller and went to a Prodigy - big improvement especially when emergency braking as the Prodigy senses you are braking harder and therefore applies more braking power to the van whereas the Voyager would just apply whatever it was set to. Prodigy also has boost settings which is great for heavy vans as it applies the brakes a bit more to the van than the tow vehicle (if you can understand that) - helps stop jack knifing.

IMO the Prodigy is well worth the money.

  5. Unfortunately David it looks like I'll be stuck with the poverty pack 100 series - hope Kimbo leaves the MP3 player in it !!

Might see you on the same flight to Mackay huh -

From what I've read the auto is an adaptive gearbox like Mitsubishi have been using for years in that it monitors your driving style and adjusts shift points to suit - ie race it around like the motoring journos and it will hang onto the gears longer etc - hence not upshifting into 6th until higher speed, potter around with it like normal drivers and it will upshift earlier.

With all that grunt there is no excuse for 200 series drivers to be holding up traffic towing their vans at 85 km/hr

  6. "And Im sure Dazmit will be watching over my shoulder if he can keep up in the 100 series as he has volunteered to drive that home to Brissy for me"

I thought I volunteered to drive the 200 series back to Brissy

Re the 6th gear overdrive if you look at the specs 4th gear is 1:1, 5th is 0.728 which is about normal for a overdriveand 6th is 0.588 which is like a super overdrive. Since overdrive gears are notoriously weak you would be very brave and have plenty of money for a gearbox rebuild if you wanted to tow in 6th in my opinion. I would think that 6th would only be good for very flat or downhill roads with no weight.

  7. Hi Garry

I believe the factory is closed until next week and no doubt Stan will have plenty of emails to read after 3 weeks off - might be quicker to receive a reply by ringing them next week.

  8. Hi Ian & Jill

Chris & Val always had trouble with theirs at high temps but a couple of suggestions - make sure all other 240V appliances are turned off such as battery charger, transformer and if Kedron still use the mobitronics for the fridge (automatically's run the fridge from 240V supply when it is available), turn that off to. (It's a black box usually mounted in the cupboard under the fridge. This will ensure that the genny is only running the Aircon.

  9. Hi John & Rose

I bet you can't wait until delivery of the new baby.

I'm also interested in taking the van to Cape York with our son Mitch (my wife isn't interested in Cape Y),but I will not be able to go until 2009.

I would certainly like a trip report on how you went and good spots to camp etc. The rough plan at this stage is to do the development road but set up base camps and go out to do some of the Telegraph track etc.

The new Kedron DVD due out next March /April should be interesting as they went to the Cape again but didn't just stick to the main areas, hopefully their crossing of the Wenlock (not by barge) will make it onto the DVD.

    Cheers

  10. Hi Chris & Val

There is certainly some stunning country around there and great free camps. A Uralla local told us about a local spot they call "The Beach" which is approx 20km out of town, on the banks of a river and it used to be a Cobb & co crossing and some of the bridge remnants are still there. Fantastic spot.

I think we were to busy enjoying Happy hours to take GPS co-ords but can give you further info.

I'll look at adding some pics and info.

    Cheers

  11. Gotta agree there, I loved the pics of Gulf Country and Oodnadatta track etc as I really enjoy the remote dirt roads/ highways !!

I'm certainly keen to get away from the bitumen again after looking at those.

  12. Hi All

My son & I are heading off in the Mighty Kedron for some male bonding shortly for 1 week around Walcha , Uralla , Armidale area. I've had a brief look at Dangar Falls, Wattle flat and Styx river before but that was very brief.

Does anyone have any great places to stay where there are some good 4WD tracks ?? Some suggestions on good 4WD tracks will also be appreciated.

    Cheers
