  1. C'mon Roger, more info please

Kimbo, currently working at Balgo (Wirrimanu) Aboriginal Community 3hrs south of Halls Creek, (also looking after Mulan & Billiluna communities) looking after the essentail services here all going well but Wendy is in Sydney looking after her parents.....going to be a very quiet Chrissy this year. Toyota & Kedron are in Broome in the yard of the company that I'm working for ......hoping they survived the recent cyclone.

Regards to you & Ned, & again to every one else Ho,Ho,Ho,

P.S. any KOG member coming up this way want power & a place to stay, reply via this post...plan 2 b here until at least April maybe longer for those interested go to 'you tube' & do a search for Balgo Landrover you can see some of the beaut country & its starting to go green now, we have had 7" of rain this week!

  2. Hi Mal,

Can I suggest you keep your eye out for a Kedron Van in your travels, have a yarn to the owner of the van & hear what they have to say about any warranty issues or other problems with their van even after many years of ownership.......

Looking forward to meeting you, down the road one day in your Kedron!

  3. Hi Sue,

Isnt it about time to revert back to the way the threads 'used to read'... top to bottom?

    Keep smiling

    Regards.

PS keep working hard in that office in Brissy...someone has to be working to pay for my jaunts around the bush

  4. Bearing in mind the fuel tank capacity is slightly less in the 200 than the 100 series, but with the increased power output & reduced fuel consumption you will travel much the same distance.

I average 12 litres per 100k's around town....best I ever did on a trip to Canberra 10.3 litres per 100k's (incredible, bettter than factoy claimed specifications), with the van on it jumps up to 19-20 litres per 100k's sitting on or just under 100kph

  5. Hi Ian & Jill,

We have had our 200 series TTD now for about 15 months & covered almost 50k. (25k of this with the Kedron behind.) It is with out doubt the nicest, most refined vehicle that we have ever owned.

It is a pity, when you spend what is the equivilant to some third world countries GNP, that you still have to pay more money to customise your your vehicle to do the job a little more easily & or more comfortably.

'Customising' our Cruiser was done with aftermarket products (with the exception of floor mats, weather shields etc) As previously mentioned buy your genuine accessories after taking delivery of your vehicle or you will pay luxury tax on those purchases.

I must admit that I'm in the auto trade, & I can purchase parts & accessories at trade or better pricing, but with a little leg work you can buy just as well.

Always buy quality products from reputable dealers (buying quality rather than buying on price always wins)

To enhance & generally improve the performance & comfort of our 'tug' I have fitted'

1.ARB colour coded steel winch bar.

2.IPF drivng lights (with HID conversion kits fitted).

3.Upgraded 'Dobbinson' suspension 50mm lift & shocks from (Dobbinsons are in Rockhampton but can be purchased all over Oz. This did stiffen the ride ever so slightly... but it still rides like a limo).

4.To keep the tug sitting level I also fitted air bags (Polyair) to the rear.

    5.Safari snorkel.

There are many other extras that I have fitted that I shouldnt mention for fear of Wendy reading this, but how far do you go?

This vehicle is an absolute joy to drive, pulls like bu_g_ry, steers well, pulls up on a 'dime' & you can get out of it at the end of the day not felling exhausted.

My last tow vehicle was 4.5L petrol manual 100 series which was not as 'tourqey' as the TD version but was still a good vehicle & before that I had 3 x 80 series Toyotas, each one of the 80 series was better than the previous one. The 100 series was 'ten times' better than the last 80 series it replaced. The 200 is 'lightyears' ahead of the 100 series.

Oil consumption hasnt been a problem for me, the ambient air temp sensor was doing funny things for a short period ...but that sorted it self out.....touch wood I havent had any warranty problems or replacements 'yet'. Fixed price servicing is great also.

The only drama I have had with the vehicle was with a servicing dealer in Darwin...not completing the service as per the service schedule & to my satisfaction. (This was fixed with a return visit & a few stern words).

    Would I buy another one.....am I happy.....YES

PS. One thing I'm going to have checked at the next service is the amount of dust getting into the vehicle ...not that its bad/excessive just want it to be checked.

PPS. We are currently in Kalumburu....doing a stint of work, noticed a Topender drive through town yesterday, went looking for it this morning....not easy to hide in Kalumburu....guess what I found....Barry & the boys doing test on a new van with some nice new bits & pieces & also making a new DVD ....due out in March 2010. I believe.

  6. Hi Frank & Di,

I did this exercise a while ago....one thing you need to consider is do you want or have a camera on the rear of your van?. If yes .... wth the AVNC unit you cant have the audio system (CD/Radio) operating ('in the backgroud') while you are using the rear camera on the van....something that I tend to do when ever I'm towing the van

  7. Hi Guys,

Our oven door glass (the inner one) came adrift also, luckly it didnt break.... I 'reworked' the 'feet' (at the bottom of the door) that the piece of glass sits on.....so far so good...... I think the overall contruction of the stove/oven unit leaves a little to be desired. The insullation around the oven also has given way & has come away from where it should be (around the oven) & fallen down the side of the oven restricting/obsturcting free operation of the oven door. Will get the ever smiling Ashley to look at it when next at Brendale.

Van is currently in Darwin...unfortunately Wendy had to come back to see her sick mother & I then had to come back & see my father, after he had a fall  beginning to think its our parents turn to get back at us for our misspent youth.

  8. Hi Bruce & Sue,

If you have a look at a Hema map showing Lawn Hill, just to the north you will see Adels Grove, then Lawn Hill Station, above that again you will see Bowthorn Station also Kingfisher Camp (part of Bowthorn). When we went Lawn Hill last (eight years ago) we came in from Gregory Downs & left via Lawn Hill & Bowthorn Stations, ending up on the Savannah Way. We had a Kimberly Kamper at that stage & it handled the trip with ease....I'm sure a Kedron would do the same taking your time & driving to the conditions....but bearing in mind some time has lapsed since we were there last, getting local knowledge will assist in making the decision on whether you go this way.

At Bowthorn Station they were catering for the tourists/travellers...the lady of the station was serving Devonshire Teas & also had a gift shop operating (an oasis in the desert).

Kingfisher Camp is/was a good spot to put in a couple of days also (be careful of the crocs there).

    Hope this helps

  10. Hi,

At this stage I dont think so....depends what happens today at the factory. And what SWMBO says!!!!

We hope you get many years of great service & fun from your new Kedron.

    Hi again,

At an internet cafe in Strathpine 11:40hrs

Been to the factory...had a look at your 'new baby'......what a beaut van, really like the bathroom....wish we had thought of 'your layout'

You have fitted it out with some very nice & practicle accessories....you will be the envy of many

Here it is 2350hrs at Brendale

We had a hiccup with the work on our van today.........so we are 'camping' here tonight, all will be well tomorrow.....I'm sure.

Greg your van looked so comfortable that.....so we are staying in it tonight....testing the mattress....sooooooo cumfy

  11. Hi Garnet,

For the lock nuts have you tried a tyre service outlet say Goodyear, Beaurepairs or similar...reckon you'll get something there.

It's been eight years since we travelled that road (so a road report wouldnt be very current)....but we do remember the road being 'littered' with thousands upon thousands of empty VB cans courtesy of our indiginous brothers buying supplies from Hells Gate (now closed) & returning to Domagee.....but we will be doing it again late June....in the opposite direction after leaving Lawn Hill (via Bowthorn Station) & going in the direction of Darwin.

We'll give you a wave should we pass....pull up & have a cuppa

    CU down the road

  12. Hi CCC,

Locks are made only to keep honest people out.....little worried about the neighbourhood you live in

(I hope I havent jinxed myself saying this)

Has anyone spoken to the people at Hyland couplings re the possbility of drilling an 8 or 10mm hole in the side of the female socket of the coupling so you could insert a suitable padlock through the hole so as to prevent the coupling being fitted to a towball....positioning of this hole would have to be pretty spot on so as not to weaken the coupling....just a thought

  13. Have a look at this...

I thought Kedrons were the innovators!

    http://current.com/items/77319511_caravan-man.htm

Caravan Man is a short quirky character portrait featuring Philip Dod, a ninety two year old retired electrical engineer and avid collector of old machinery. Philip's barns contain a rambling and eclectic collection of machinery in various states of repair; he is particularly fond of Atco mowing machines and has over fifteen of them. However the film mainly focuses on Philips collection of Winchester Caravans.

  14. Hi,

I shopped around, the best deal I could get with the van was with Apia (www.apia.com.au) the price from apia was far less than the multi policy price I was offered by the NRMA. The NRMA had the best price for the Landcruiser. Policy pricing I believe, depends a lot on your postcode (residential address) Shop around & you will save a few dollars, unfortunately you never get to find out how good the company is until you have to make a claim!

    Enjoy your new van.
