  1. Sue, Helen and I went to the show Saturday, hooked the van on Sunday for a trip out to Texas via Stanthorpe and stayed on the banks of the Dumaresq river than came home via Bonshaw Weir, Tenterfield, Mt Lindsay Highway to Wylie Ck then onto Warwick and home. It was a good excuse to test out some of the gear we purchased at the show. Cheers :shades: Laurie and Helen
  2. Deb, Yeah we are planning anti clockwise and if we can do the stretch down the west coast means we finish with the run through Cradle mountain then up to Wyndham. We are planning a few set down points like Hobart and Launceston but hopefully the rest (except Devonport) will be via the camps 4 book and local advice from passing vanners. You will really love NZ this was our second trip, we hired a car both times and used van park accomodation but they are really set up for the traveller and nothing seems like a bother to anyone when you need assistance. We crossed the south island four times. If you give us your email we can send you our itinerary to give you an idea of how we went. catch you all later Laurie
  3. Jo and John, Thanks for the information, we generally like doing most activities that take us of the main trails. We realise 21 days should be enough time to wet our appetite and give us some good information to plan another trip sometime in the future. I work with a chap that helped build most of the bridges down in this area of Tasmania about 25 years ago he was based out of Stanley. We are looking forward to getting into some areas that we can do some treking all be it short walks this trip. We did about 6000 km in NZ last October in four weeks and 5 days of that was walking the Milford Track, we try to set a path that has minimal backtracking which is difficult on little islands, unless you get of the main roads. One advantage of this time of year is the twighlight when you are so far south. cheers Laurie and Helen
  4. G'day, Helen and I are planning a trip to Tasmania in January and were wondering if anyone had driven the road between Arthur River on the west coast down through Corinna and onto Strahan. Our investigations so far suggest it should be a reasonable dirt road all though steep in sections. Any other thoughts or known good camp sites around the isle will be appreciated for our planning. We intend to go over on news year day and have 21 days on the apple isle. Not the best time but we have to fit it in with work as gold lotto didn't help on the weekend. Laurie and Helen
  5. Brian and David, I ended up buying the TX3440 with Antenna from Contact Communications in Gawler. Same price ($407 incl fr) with a slightly different style of antenna, I coudn't find a price in Brisbane under $499 just for the radio than I had to arrange to have it sent or go down and pick it up. Thanks for the good advice Brian and David, it will be interesting to see how the two different antennas work. cheers Laurie
  6. Brian, Thanks for that, we have been looking on Ebay as well. cheers Laurie
  7. Mavis & Rod, Good to hear a positive result on something I was looking at for a change, Ive been using GME stuff with my work car but nothing as flash and quite a few years older. I should have asked in the original request for information about the antenna set up. We were thinking of the spring mounted fibreglass unit in the 477 MHz range any suggestions or are we better using a 27MHz antenna. cheers Laurie & Helen
  8. Hi All, We are looking at buying a UHF unit at the caravan show when it is on in Brissy, we were looking at the GME TX3440 with everything in the mic handset. Has anybody had any experience with this style or are we better going for the remote head unit ? any suggestions appreciated cheers Laurie
  9. We have a 150 lt in our XC, keeps the ice cream frozen and drinks cold keeps the food good too. We have 3 x 120 solar and 3 deep cycles. We haven't had any problems and don't seem to have to worry about what we use at night time to conserve power. Laurie & Helen
  10. We can't make the trip as our son is going to the UK to play cricket and has decided to leave the weekend of the camp. We will get to one soon. Laurie and Helen
