Has anyone got results from the installation of a DP chip in a 100 series L/C, also do you need to to do the exhaust mod at the same time , this was recomended for the best results or just install the chiop.

Hi,

DP chips do work ...at a price....... around $1400 fitted, you will get slightly better economy & more power (torque) but to get the maximum gain you will have to upgrade the exhaust..

You dont say if your cruiser is petrol, diesel, normally asperated or turbo. For both the petrol & diesel normally asperated engines I would suggest fitting a quality set of headers/extractors connected to a 2.5 inch free flowing pipe system with a 'sports'/freeflowing muffler, if you have a diesel turbo fit a 2.5 inch pipe system upto the engine pipe with 'sports'/freeflowing muffler.

Once you have done this, hook the TE upto the 'tug' look for a few hills & feel the improvement in the torque.

Toyota build a wonderful vehicle & engine, but somehow fall short when it comes to designing an exhaust system.

If you still want more performance from the vehicle ...then consider fitting a 'DP chip' remembering that to get the full benifit of the 'chip' you should upgrade the exhaust......so doing the exhaust first then testing the result....... you may save yourself $1400.

Also consider fitting a snorkel, the engine breathes better & gets cooler, cleaner air into the engine aiding the combustion process.

Greetings.

Did some serious thinking about fitting a chip, having been sorley dissapointed with the performance of the 100 series TD beasty towing our caravan.

We ended up fitting a 3 inch exhaust, which made a massive difference to the performance.

The next for us looks like the Diesel/Gas conversion. Its about $600 more than the chip but from my research is a much better option with far better benefits for the engine, performance wise, economy wise and for engine longevity.

Have a talk to AMMS Sandgate they do Gas, chips and exhausts with a Dyno to tune whatever you decide to install. Good bunch of blokes but do your research for goodness sake.(That is if you are in Brisbane)

Have a look at http://www.dieselgasaustralia.com.au/ it gives a good explanation of the conversion and benefits, with links to some good info.

The jury is still out at the moment on the gas but the chip is not on the horizon for us.

Regards.

Hi Rod,

Are you aware that by fitting the gas conversion to your diesel you qualify for the Federal Government rebate of $2000....enquire at your local gas installer, Medicare or Centerlink office.

Yes know about the rebate that accounts for the $600 differance to the price of the chip.

The gas cost after rebate is about $2000.

G`Day All

We had a 3 inch Mandril bent system fitted by Beaudesert Exhaust about 2 1/2 Yrs. ago.

It improved the performance marginally. We had the DP chip fitted about 20 months ago and WOW, different

vehicle.Increased torque to about 620Nms.The tug is an 02 100TD manual with 178000Ks on the clock. We tow an ATV when fully loaded is about 3.2 tonnes and it goes like the clappers!!.We average about 18 ltres.per 100 Ks.when towing and about 12L/100Ks. not towing.DP chip was fitted by Mike Vine Turbos Cleveland Brisbane.Works for us.
