  1. Hello Ian..

Unit is mounted in the front of the van where the solar reg was..yes power only comes from the ute when the engine is on but from the panels as per usual when motor is off..pretty easy to wire with good clear directions.all wires are colour coded..all goes through the battery monitor,so when ute starts it shows amp hours coming from ute to van batterys..when the ute starts the solal is islolated and is not putting power in untill the motor is turned off..only been home 2 weeks so all up we were in the van for just over 4 months & still very happy..i did ring redarc 1 day & they were very good to talk to..

    Cheers Danny

    Hi Danny & Sue,

I am considering installing one of these and would appreciate your advice on a few points (excuse my ignorance):

    - Is it mounted under the bonnet of your car (so only works when the engine is on)?

    - How have you 'run' your solar panels (off the caravan I presume) thru this unit?

    - Can you read the input to the batteries as part of our daily amps input ie. solar plus BCDC charger?

    - Are you still happy with it?

    I would apprecaite your advice,

    Cheers,

    Ian

  2. Hi all.

We have been using our redarc 40 amp DC/DC charger for 3 months now so thought we might share our veiw so far... Ours is the redarc BCDC 12/40 with solar reg

I think we were getting next to zero input from the Toyota despite having very heavy wire to the anderson plug..now as soon as the ute starts we get a good charge rate right from idle.like any battery charger the charge rate slows down as battery's reach higher state of charge.. i try not to get batteries too low but at about 70% charged we get around the 30amp's input.we have just been free camping near kingaroy for 5 days and the built in solar reg worked very well..we have 3 panels/3 battery's and had no problems.6 to 7 hours of tv and washing of the inverter batteries back up to 100% by 4oclock. but weather was very sunny.

Overall very happy & would recommend to anyone.we would definetely have one installed on a new van. only drawback i can see is that you can't charge the ute battery's back through anderson plug while stopped.you could get around this with a bit of thought and a switch but don't think i'll bother..

Cheers for now danny & Sue

  3. Hi Danny

Thanks for your input is idle screw on the carbby and if so did you adjust it by say 1/4 of a turn.

    Regards

    Reece

    Morning Reece

The idle screw is on the carby but very hard to get at..you need one of those flexable screwdrivers that i don't have..when you pull the back cover off you will see the stopper plate rocking when genny is hunting..Turn genny off and bend plate in whisker..too much and it will rev too high.i went too much first time and had too have another go.just a bit of trial and error.

    Good luck

    Danny

  4. G'day Reece

Probably not much help for the toyota but for the van I use a 10m length of electrical wire with a clip on one end.just clip onto the steel arial on the van and drag the wire around or throw it up a tree untill we get good reception.works a treat....

    Cheers Danny

  5. Morning all.

We have just finished our 10 month trip & find there is a lot of confusion regarding tyre pressure on the dirt roads. We did a lot of dirt,Great central,Tanami,Savannaha Way & down through Windorah,Haddon Corner,The dig tree,Innamincka,Tibooburra etc etc.We were lucky enough to get through the lot with no flats.our van is 21ft ATV loaded pretty heavy.wOn the dirt we only ever run 25PSI cold on the van & 30 PSI cold on the ute.We have found this good as long as you are going slow. You don't want to be on the tar long with these pressures though. Also these are cold pressures.Don't drive up the road and drop to these pressures with hot tyres.I find about 28/30 psi hot is a good start point when you hit the dirt.Had a great trip with no damage or breakages apart from a few plastic draw latches.

    Cheers for Danny & Sue

  6. Wondering if anyone has radio reception problams? we have the Kenwood radio and the rubber ariel but reception is very poor.I have the ranghood out & checked plug etc & ariel tests ok but very poor reception. Any advice?????

    Cheers Danny

  7. Thanks for that but we were using batteries & had booster mounted at the back of the tray.we do have an alluminium canopy & wonder if we get reflection of signal?had 4 complete new sets so you would think 1 would work.

    Cheers Danny & Sue

  8. Can anyone recomend a tyre pressure monitor. We have had 4 sets of tyredogs & have had to return every set. They had the external booster but just kept failing or not working in the first place. This all started about september last year.I am getting a refund which is good[minuss my 4 lots of postage]but still have no monitors.I am only really interested in an 8 set with external fitting sencors that go on the valve stem.

  9. We got our yamaha 2400 last week and so far very happy.had it running air con & battery charger with long lead[25m bunnings ] with no problams.cycled air con easily.down side is it's a bit heavier than the Honda.i have glued blue rubber matting on the front ,back & door of gennie box to stop it rubbing.made a mesh frame that gives about 20mm of clearance.we push gennie in & slide the last mat in between gennie & frame.still leaves enough room to fit 10l fuel containers ouside frame.

    Cheers Danny & Sue

  10. We bought our atv new in October.we were told the honda would run the cormorant but would struggle.we didn't try untill late December with no luck.bought 3m of very heavy lead & new ends but still kept tripping the overload. After a few calls to Glen Honda rang & we sent it to Perth.Honda tested very well on their benchtest.Len from honda rank cormorant in adelaide & it was deceided that honda was not up to it.Both honda & glen were very good & we received a full refund on the honda.

    Yamaha 2400 is arriving today..

    Regards Danny & Sue
