  1. Hi Robert and Jane.

I think you must be the guys we met in Brisbane a month or so ago - you lent us some dvds of trips you have taken? It was wonderful to see this posting. Thanks for sharing the clip with us.

    Chris

  2. And BJ, where are you taking the new van on its shakedown trip? We have had two Kedrons now (an ATV we bought in 2003 and a Top Ender we took delivery of in Feb 2009) and on the occasion we took the new vans to Lake Wivenhoe. It was close enough to nip back to the factory if we needed to, but a beautiful location for its first trip. From there we took it up to Amamoor Forest near Gympie and tried out the new solar system (which performed brilliantly!).

  3. Bill, I think you have answered the question yourself; it depends on what use you will put the van to.

Yes the Top Ender has a more robust chassis (and weight to with it) and has some additional features which come as standard (such as leather seats).

But you say you won't be travelling over really rough roads so you may not need such a robust capability. But I have to say that I am aware that folk with ATVs and Cross Country vans have travelled over very rough terrain (such as the Gibb River Road).

All Kedrons are robust and tough so the ATV2 is very solid and strong.

  4. All it does is disconnect the van 12 volt system off the batteries (except for the fridge) and runs the system independently. Everything else just runs off the transformer. It means if you took all the batteries out, and turned onto 240 volt all the lights etc would continue working (except for the fridge, which in our van requires to be directly from the batteries).

We just leave it on 12 volt and don't bother about it.

  5. Ah so its only your FOURTH Kedron!! Well anyway, I think you would have set a record.

Obviously we didn't get to see inside your van - just the outside as it was being re-positioned in the yard. I do know what you mean by finding the technical side of things a bit tricky to cope with - it is all beyond me. But the Kedron Owners Group are wonderfully obliging with advice, as are the wonderful team at the factory.

I know you will enjoy being out and about in the new van - others will be blue with envy when they see it

And thank you for your kind words about following our travels. I am almost ready to post my latest trip report.

(This comes from Lake Wivenhoe, near Esk).

  6. We were at the Kedron factory yesterday and saw the Shadforth's new Kedron caravan. It looks pretty spiffy (read special) with its pale tinted blue colouring. They must really be happy with the brand - I think this is their 6th Kedron! Let's face it, a Kedron caravan is special and it is wonderful to see people appreciating them so much they come back time and again.

  7. Hi Phil and Darlene.

Welcome to the KOG fellowship. Whenever we see another Kedron we try to say hello.

Now, all you need to do is bring it over the Nullabor and visit us in the Barossa Valley in SA.....we will organise a trip away with you!

  8. Chris, We are on our 2nd Kedron, purchased nearly 2years ago because we wanted a toilet/shower. We are thrilled with our van,as we were the first one. Now it is our home and we hope to keep traveling for many years. Our choice of returning to Kedron was not just the quality of the van, more importantly it was the integrity of the company. They do not say they are perfect but they try hard to put out a trustworthy product that is safe, sturdy and attractive. The Gall family and their staff have been the most helpful company we have ever dealt with. We are proud to tell everyone about our Kedron van.

    Brian and Lis,

I had actually forgotten you had had a Kedron before the current one! Having seen you new van I can only agree that it is a great unit. And congratulations on being out there full time now. Where are you right now?

    Chris

  9. Do you know if you empty a Cross Country you lose half a double garage!!!!! Rick.

Yes I did know this; we emptied the ATV before selling it in preparation for the Top Ender, and the garage is still full of old van stuff a year later!!

    Chris

  10. I suspect a couple other orders have snuck through  Still it will be worth the wait!!

    Rick.

You might be right about a couple of orders sneaking through! The manager of the Howard Springs caravan park here in Darwin (where we are staying at present) has just put in an order for a Top Ender, after seeing them at the Sydney Show. For the last couple of years he has been looking over every offroader which has come into his park, and looking at those he has met on the road, and had decided that the Kedron brand was the one for him! When he saw the Top Ender at Sydney he was overwhelmed at its quality.

And he takes delivery straight after the Brisbane Show, as the van will be used as a demonstration unit at the Brisvegas van fest.

He said he has a new Lancruiser every year, his wife has a BMW, and yet he is excited as a little kid at the thought of adding the Kedron to his stable. I know the feeling.

  11. Good to hear from you all about the pleasure of owning a Kedron twice over.

Gordon and Chris we met at Brunswick Heads once, when they still had their first van, as did we! And we have had the pleasure of travelling with Rick and Lea so we knew they had a second go at one of these superb vans!

And I could not agree more with Laurie and Helen; the after sales service is second to none. We have had unbelievable courtesy and help with warranty work, long after anything remotely resembling a warranty had expired.

I know at least three others who are on their second or more Kedron....(the Blackers, the Shadforths and Kimbo) and if this is only within my limited acquaintance range, how many others are there?

    Chris

  12. We have just heard of someone who has been through a number of new Kedrons...I had better rephrase that to "they have bought Kedrons each time they have upgraded their vans".

As we are on our second van, and are aware of a number of folk who have chosen the brand at least a second time, we are curious just how many people come back to the brand a second time or more?

The folk I refer to above have bought something like six new Kedrons. That is really being in love with the brand!

In our case we again chose Kedron to build our second van as we loved the reliability and toughness of the van and find the Galls to be so good to deal with. And the van looks great inside too

Anyone want to comment after choosing Kedron again?

    Chris

  13. Thanks Colin.

It is indeed a useful site. Thanks for drawing my attention to it.

I am particularly after people's personal observations of good spots to see and camp at. If we find a good spot we will stay here and there for a couple of days - we are not in a rush.

    Chris

  14. When we leave Darwin in three weeks time we plan to travel across the Savannah Way (from Mataranka, south of Darwin) to Cairns.

We are now doing the planning required, and would appreciate any advice on the best stops to camp, any must see things, and especially, where we can expect fuel to be available. Fuel availability can be a changing phenomenon and current status of outlets would be invaluable to have!

    Chris

  15. There is no jumble of wires or electrical gear in our Top Ender boot. All neat as a pin - as have been all other Top Enders we have seen.

As Kedron installed our inverter (Xantrex 1800 watt) in the van prior to delivery I suggest they are the appropriate folk to comment.

    Chris

  16. Hi Mal and Kerry

Spmething we added to our first Kedron (we are onto our second) was a diesel heater. On our second van it has been built in as part of the overall design. It is a wonerful feature, especially if you will be travelling in cold country.

    Chris

  17. Webby, the 17th is getting closer by the minute

We have now arrived in Katherine where the outside temperature is 32 degrees...and our daughter says they had frosts at home last night! Oh my. (I hope she brought in that cyclamen plant as she was supposed to....) :clown:

And guess what! There is another Top Ender here, with a travelling couple who have one on order. And (wait there's more!) they have a friend arriving tomorrow with another Kedron. We wills till be here for the day tomorrow and so will meet them all.

I asked them the perennial question; why did you choose Kedron for your van? The answer from the men was "the strength of the product" and "its innovative qualities" and the women both said in chorus"the inside of the van is the most appealing of any van on the market". This is interesting as it exactly mirrors our reasons for choosing Kedron twice over.

Anyway, back on topic; we move from here to Darwin on Thursday. I will keep you all informed....although I suppose you could all unsubscribe!

    Chris and Val

  18. I have your copy already packed in the van and it will be on it's way to you commencing this Saturday. Slowly....but we'll get there. If Flynny reaches you before us, he might also have a copy for you.

Oh wonderful!! I can't wait. If Flynny gets here first I will borrow his copy!

  19. We are in wet and soggy Alice Springs after a longer than usual day's drive northwards.

Our first night from home we spent at a campground in Mt Remarkable NP, and lst night was just off the Stuart Highway north of Coober Pedy. We have done this trip so many times we could almost do it with eyes shut.

Then as we got closer to Alice Springs the rain got heavier. About 100 kms south of Alice we only just got through a crossing which was half a metre deep – and coming up quickly. Cars and vans and trucks were all lined up either side of the road but we knew we could easily do it, and sailed through with the van (no pun intended). Okie2 didn’t even get his inside mat wet! The looks on the faces of all the folk who had stopped at the water’s edge waiting, while we just drove straight down and into it without a pause, was priceless. There was a bus load of tourists standing around who took photos of us. It truly wasn’t a concern. We have been through deeper and more quick flowing. Once we got to the other side, the van was overheard to say "Shiver my simplicity suspension! That was a nice cool dip!".

I think the highway would now be closed though as the water was rising.
