Recently we were having trouble with the heater taking several goes at starting (it would start the turn on process , blow cold air, then stop. It would do this twice before a final third try was successful). And so a couple of weeks ago Val cleaned out the whole unit and it now runs smooth as silk.
He said he changed the glow plug and cleaned the mesh of all the accumulated gunk (carbon?). I gather it was tricky to get to the unit due to its placement, but more modern vans may have a different siting. Our van is a 2009 build.
I think he changed the glow plug because he damaged the old one getting it out....
So the diesel heater went 9 years with little to no attention.

Hello fellow Kedronners.
We have just started on a 12 months or so trip around this great country. Our first night was spent at a great little country town in Victoria, Underbool. The community provides a rv rest stop with showers, toilets and power. If power is used the cost is $10 a night. A lovely small town and great camp.
Yesterday we moved a bit further North and are at Yanga NP, at a nice spot near Balranald and overlooking the Murrumbidgee River. After months of cold or freezing weather in Tasmania it is is lovely to be warm for a change.
The rough plan is to head to Western QLD to cross the Plenty and Donahue Highways to Alice Springs in about four weeks. From here at Yanga we will travel to Griffith and stay at the lovely Lake Wyangan. If you see us on the road come and say hello; our names are on the back and front of the van....yes, I know it is a bit twee, but a friend did the decals so nicely we had to use them!

How wonderful to see you here! Welcome to the forum. Yes, the Facebook page is a tremendous asset to Kedron owners, and well done in starting it up. I see the Facebook site providing quick responses and information on a range of issues, and this forum as having a wealth of information collected over the years available for easy searching.

We have just come back from a trip to Tasmania and of course that was undertaken in the Winter months. I have put together a document which briefly outlines the advantages and disadvantages of winter travel. It probably applies to any cold weather travelling. It also assumes one has a diesel or gas heater and ability to stay warm and cosy in freezing conditions.

There has been a recent update on this by a circular.Click on “what’s new”.
“The revised circular applies to new applications and new amendments to existing Identification Plate Approvals (IPAs). The Circular will not affect the existing IPAs held by the second stage manufacturers”.
It seems the upgrades already undertaken are 100% legal.

We agree that a UHF is an essential tool, especially on highways and out in the remoter areas. Many times, on a highway somewhere we get valuable information from others around us, such as the cause of a holdup (it was a car accident a couple of times) or that a wide load was coming.

Hi Tony and Irene. How wonderful to see you have a nice new Kedron and have joined the Kedron family. I am guessing the van is a pre-loved van?
Where are you guys when you are at home? Kedron owners are scattered all over this great country and often there are gatherings to attend and get to know other owners. I live in the Barossa Valley, SA although right now we are in Tasmania travelling.
i hope we catch up with you in the great outdoors sometime.

We are currently at Waterhouse Conservation Park in Tasmania and enjoying the most delightful freecamp. It probably requires a four wheel drive to get here but nothing a Kedron isn’t capable of. The spot is called Ranson’s Bay, and it is on the North Eastern Coast.

I reackon the locals know a thing or two about alpine fuel and it’s additives! We do usually put some kerosene in the tank every now and again but not in a cold climate where the fuel comes already treated.

It was a cold morning today....minus 2 in the van before the diesel heater kicked in. I hope we can get the ice off the windscreen before heading to Rick and Lea’s....

We have finished our first month here in Tasmania and have only just travelled more than a 150km radius from our landing point at Devonport! We do tend to stay in one place and do day trips out and around a region.
We dithered trying to decide whether to go West or East but decided West was more sensible given it would be colder there sooner than elsewhere.We have met a few other Kedrons which has been great, including staying with Rick and Lea for a few days, and meeting up with both Tony and Annie Heat and Rob and Jewel.
This trip report comes from Stanley, which will feature in the next report.-

We are now staying at a truly lovely national park campground called Narawntapu. It is to the East of Port Sorell, and a bit further to the East of Devonport. There are three separate campgrounds; Springlawn, Springlawn Beach, and Horse yards. The Springlawn site has flushing toilets and showers (showers can be accessed with a disc costing $2 ), dump point, water and power. All this is for the cost of $16 for two people a night plus the usual entry permit. The beach camp sites are $13 a night but have only a drop toilet, dump point and rubbish bins.
Our camp site is just lovely.

And last night we camped at Old Macs Farm campground, and finally caught up with Tony and Annie! What a great chance to talk about things Kedron and related stuff. It was a privilege to meet such nice folk.

We have a Top Ender and this is our second Kedron. We love the brand and cannot fault the after sales service from the Galls. We have taken our vans over every rough track you can think of and had no issues whatsoever. Love Kedron!
