Anyone with thoughts on towing a Kedron ATV with a Nissan Patrol DX 3.0 Turbo Diesel. Would love to eventually get a Kedron but with the cost involved need to look at economising on the tow vehicle.

Hi Gary & Toni

There are plenty of Patrols pulling Kedron's around, assuming you have the manual which has the 3.2t (I think) tow rating then I would think up to a 17'6" interior ATV - would allow you to pack a fair bit of gear in it and still be a bit under your tow limit.

Cheers

Hi Gary and Toni

We are towing a 19.6 2800 tare wgt , ATV with a patrol 3.0 diesel manual.Yes we have to watch our loading to be legal so we keep heavy stuff in back of Patrol

Power performance is good but get out of 5th gear on sighting an uphill gradiant. Only occasionally have we had to get down to 2nd gear.

Did a trip out to Birdsville last winter and down to Leigh Creek, Arkaroola etc, about 4800 sand /gravel roads and handled it a breeze.

In total 6000 plus km and averaged about 17 lts per 100 km.

One thing we learnt after burning out a clutch at 26000 km, don't reverse with the stabilizers attached as it makes the whole rig very rigid and diificult to both reverse and turn, also learnt to pull the van up our very steep drive in 1st gear low ratio.

These new 4WD have a new clutch system that the fly wheel seems to be the clutch and the clutch plate is just that. So a burn out meant replacing both fly wheel and plate ( B!!!!! EXPENSIVE)

We take off again from Bris 13 June to Alice, going via the Plent Hwy, have been considering a new chip and exhaust modification for the extra power and economy they talk about but have decided to wait until Patrol is out of warranty( Next Winter) or may consider the D-gas unit

All in all quite happy with the patrol

On the road again
