Mr Wato
Hi AllWe have a new topender with a diesel heater which i turned on full at about 5am to warm up the van.But the fuel pump is under the van on my side near my pillow... What is with all the clicking ??. I rang Kedron and they told me this normal , it is just pumping the fuel.. Has anybody found a solution to this ??? Or can you tell me were to get some good ear plugs..Maybe move the tank & pump to the back of the van..Cheers Phil :helpsmilie:
Mayzee
Hi Phil & Darlene,We know exactly what you mean. The only solution we found was a bottle of red before bed!
John and Jo
Hi Phil, Yes we also have the same problem in our new TopEnder. I must say after a while you get used to it. We have just spent a week in Perth looking after the grandkids and had some very cold nights. Had the heater on all night on a tad less than 1 and it just ticked over to such an extent that we could hardly hear it. Nice and warm and very happy with fuel consumption. How did your trip down south go? Did you come as far as Albany? would love to compare vans. John Hart
Mr Wato
Hi JohnNo didnt get to Albany.. close though Alexandra Bridge near Augusta.. great spot and not busy either at this time of year.We have friends in Albany will call when we are down there..I think I am going to move the fuel tank and pump when I modify the rear wheel carrier..I dont think i can carry enough beer to drown out the noiseCheers Phil

the crow and i
PhilI installed the heater in our Top Ender when I modifier the rear wheel carriers to swing out.I fitted the tank into the rear bar and the pump under the shower/toilet.We still have the ticking problem but as John said once the van is warm and set between 1 and 2 we could hardly hear it. I fastened the pump to the chassis in preference to the floor as I thought the floor would have a drum effect, but the sound still travels thru the van. Cheers Bryan
RickA
Hi GangWhilst on the subject of Diesel Heaters,a message to ALL who have one fitted, make sure you have them servied every 6 to 12 months (depending on use)We have just paid out $500 to get the bloody thing fixed. It is 2yrs 4 months old and has never been serviced .(Did not Know!!) Dometic in Perth who are apparently never wrong, say it is a must that they are serviced regularly whether used regularly or not.I just thought I would pass this info. on as a warning to the unsuspecting. Also make sure that you always use GOOD fuel.Cheers Rick & Lea

Mr Wato
Hi BryanI am actually going to copy your idea of the swing out wheel carrier. I have bought the arms and am waiting for the spare time (i wish) to start. I am hoping to be able to put a small box between the wheels when done. Do you have any more photo's of yours? would like to see it I am also adding another water tank to rear of van. Cheers Phil

Glacier Bill
Lea & Rick, We had problems with our heater not firing up. Contacted Airtronic and talked to a bloke who said you must drain the diesel from tank at the end of the cold season as there are three things that sends diesel off, 1- sunlight, 2- oxygen, 3- agitation. The fix he recommended was to remove pump, remove delivery pipe from pump and there is a fine screen and if it is a yellow color it is blocked. He said to soak it in metho for a few hours to clean it, but be very careful with pump as they are $660 to replace. I could not remove end off the pump as it is very tight and didn't want to break anything so just pumped metho through the pump for a minute or so. I flushed the tank as it had an old paint smell (diesel gone off), refitted pump, added fresh diesel and all was good, working fine. Couldn't believe diesel could go off so quickly as it was only6 months since it was first used. They are a great heater when all is working fineBill. Dreaming Nomad
Diesel fuel becoming stale is a common problem in boats and the Boat Owners Association has posted a warning not to use bio-diesel as it is more prone to this occurring. Far more serious at sea than simply a heater that does not work. Many marinas have an agreement with their oil company not to supply bio-diesel or ethanol/petrol blends. Maybe use of bio-diesel could contribute to heater failure because of extended storage times.Regards,Peter.
TonyH
Major problem with ethanol is it attracts water/moisture which of course a problem with any fuel.....bio fuels a definate NO NO with aviation as the moisture can freeze (at altitude) causing somewhat of a blockage....oh no....its OK we have the 'air' brakes dont we?* * * * * 'splat'
