Greetings all. The Fatman ferry at Corinna has a length limit of 9 meters from car front hub. For some strange reason they only took the length to the hub of the front van axle. Consequently the rear wheels were on the ferry ramp and the driver was not too happy but he was the one that measured it :-). Oh there is a 6.5 ton weight limit also.

Hi Brian & Dawn We unfortunately leave the Apple Isle on the 17th of April bound for the big island. Our trip so far has been superb. I am writing this parked outside the Derwent Bridge Hotel. We pulled in for a cleansing ale and were told that we could stay in the car park for the night so we did and had a few more cleansing ales. The weather here has been chilly to say the least. Driving from Strahan today there was snow on the mountains above about 1000m and sleat on the car as we drove. Bring your winter woolies and make sure that the diesel heater is working well it has been cold even at this time of year. You will love it,the scenery is just indescribable. Well This has gotta beat all. The attached picture is of a dump site cum water fill site cum public toilet with garbage disposal facility at Smithton in the North west of paradise that is not in Camps 5. Along with all this there was relatively cheap diesel in Smithton as well. Just gotta tell you about the toilet, we know it is not exactly a great topic of conversation but this one had to be seen to be believed. Imagine if you will a toilet block with flashing lights on the outside to inform as to its current status. Ok vacant was flashing,so the door was slid open and you walk inside and slide the door shut. Beside the door are more flashing lights one with the prompt to lock the door, you press it and unlock it if you press the other . A message then tells you verbally that the door is locked and you have exactly 10 minutes to complete your business. Then believe it or not music is piped through the bunker. I was very concerned at the 10 minute message and made very sure that any reason to be in there was completed long before the allotted time, god only knows what could happen if you exceded your allocated ablution time. Images of the floor opening up or a massive vaccuum drawing you into the sewer system of Smithton flashed before my eyes. Seriously this was a great amenity the likes of which we have never seen before.

Greetings all. We are in Tassie for two months and have had a remarkable experience that I/we would like to share with you all. Camps 5 Tassie camp# 235 Wynyard Show grounds. Check out the following pictures, the motor home pics were just to make Rod feel better but the sign is quite blunt to say the least. We did stay in the show ground as we arrived a little late to look for alternative accommodation. 8pm a security bloke knocked on the door to tell us that Wynyard council forbid caravans from staying here,but he would turn a blind eye if we left in the morning. How good is this. You can bet your ba..s excuse me that the council and Tourism Tas will be getting a blast with an explanation required from both. Will keep you all posted. Apart from that this place is absolute paradise and we are loving it.

Hi Guy's Glad to hear that you have found a suitable F250. Keep away from Graham and Ros or you might just end up with a huge hot up bill for the effy grin. We are still making our way to Melbourne and will not be leaving the mainland until the 17th February. Rob & Jewel So glad to hear that you have retired from the buses ( good feeling aint it grin) sounds like a TV series dosn't it "Off the buses" :biggrin: Mavis and I were thinking of you during the big wet and tried to ring you at work or rather ex work. Glad to hear that all is ok on the farm but it sounds like retirement might mean a fair few farm jobs. At least you will not be on a time table to get back to the buses. We are on our way to Tassie and still about 3 weeks away from Melbourne visiting relo's and friends on the way. Enjoy retirement to the full dear friends. A big :thumbsup: to Graham & Ros. Blub blub blub Sorry just took out the snorkel to reply grin. How is this rain. We are to leave for Victoria on Friday to hop on the ferry to Tassie. I have bolted on the water wings on the van to get outa QLD so we might save the ferry costs. Good luck to you two and as you say at least you are mobile and can make a decision to leave before disaster.

Hi Brian. Water can track from remote areas of the roof to far away places. One of our leaks was water coming from a badly sealed roof join in the middle of the van and we found it coming in the front window frame. The window was resealed twice by Kedron before the origin was discovered. It will track along frames and may not show up near the leak. Regards.

Thanks Greg & Judy & Laurie & Helen. We have been agonizing over the Heike as a choice for a future build. I believe that the quality of the installation might have a lot to do with the problems atributed to these hatches in this and various other forums. The hatch in the hand (pre installation) looks like it is made well but like most van components has to be fitted properly because it is quite flexible and needs a good flat/stable surface to be mounted on or heaps of Sikaflex. A merry Christmas and the greatest of great New Years to all. We are in the throws of van and car preparation for our two month trip to Tassie. Car is done still a few little jobbies on the van but the end is in sight. We are spending a lazy month to get to Melbourne from Brissie. We head off on the 17th of January and do not return until about the 22nd of April. Once home we foresee that we will be spending some time cleaning up our place. Our Son is looking after the place (yeh right) while we are away so we will probably need the machete sharpened up to find the front door and a bobcat to shovel out the pizza cartons. Best wishes to you all and keep smiling, life is too short not to enjoy it.

Greetings again Brian. The pressure limiting device is an integral part of the unit that you attach your hose to on the side of the van. They are supplied by Surflo the same mob that make the pressure pumps. It will be a little hard to see unless you pull the whole unit off the van and disassemble it. Have a squize at the web site http://www.shurflo.com/marine-products/wat...es/default.html And scroll down to "Wall Mount City Water Entries" and you will see the unit that is fitted to your van and you can get some info on it. :thumbsup:

Hi Brian. The inlet for external water on the van has an inbuilt pressure limiting valve. There is no device that will cut off the water in the event of a water leak as with the gas system (if fitted). Sooooo if the system within the van ruptures bug.er lotsa mopping will surely ensue if the external water is turned on or the pump is switched on. Sorry

Greetings all. We also have had water ingress problems but not through a Heiki. Not having one on our older 2005 Kedron. Our water leakage was through the front window ( replaced 3 times from new by Kedron) and lastly water in any rain conditions would come through the aircon outlet panel inside. After heaps of frustration and no fixes,we finally took it back to Kedron and asked them to re seal the old Colman Mack aircon, thinking that the water was tracking to our trouble spots. We were quoted $400 by Tom to do this job. Needed it fixed at any cost it was a frustrating bu..er of a problem. When we went back to pick the van up Tom said that it was a join on the roof that was not sealed properly. Lo and behold all leaks are now fixed yahoooooo. Hope this is the end to 5 years of frustration. The best part was no charge, well $50 for a new tail light that was full of water (again) that is another saga but the water is fixed :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

We are definitely anti front mounted 4 seasons,ours is a major dust problem. :sad: :confused:

Greetings all. It is my belief that the the 6T coupling requires a 1000lb WDH due to Hayman Reese viewing this unit as the only one compatible with a 6 Ton hitch. If you look at this 1000lb WDH, the receiver assembly on the tow bar is manifestly stronger than the 3.5 ton unit and this allows the 6 ton McHitch tow pin to be accomodated safely and within their safety scope and allows warranty to be secure. It is good practice for them to insist on this system. If someone is fitting a 6 Ton hitch then the WDH must be compatible even if the vehicle ATM being towed is under this figure. I know that my modification to my 3.5 ton original hitch to accomodate the 6 Ton pin would not sit well with Hayman Reese but the engineering is completely sound although no destructive testing has been carried out. Greetings all Great point David & Sharyn. The pivots are bolts and not pins and can be wound up by rotating the ball receiver,thus the problem that you mentioned. Thanks for the input,these little gems are never mentioned when you buy. :thumbsup:
