Chris
Hi everyone. This is the time in the Top End of the NT that vans start to visit the region. The Dry season has arrived and people's thoughts turn to bush trips up North. We are in Adelaide River for a couple of months (not too sure just how long at present) which is 100 kms South of Darwin and on the Stuart Highway. Val has taken over the Teaching Principal role of the school - a very small school- while they recruit a permanent replacement for the position. Hey, the Department paid our travel costs to come back up so it can't be all bad. We have a nice 2 bedroom flat here (it comes free with the job) and a sizable garden. val has been weeding, mowing, spreading mulch - he's in heaven.Anyway back to the topic! If a fellow Kedronner is going through town and has the inclination to stop and say hello we would love to see you. We are in Hardy Street, parallel with the Highway, north side of the highway, two streets back. We're easy to find - there is a Kedron ATV in the front yard!Chris and Val
Rod Priestley
Hi Chris and ValUs tassie devils will be passing through sometime during late June/early July on our way to Broome via Gibb River Road and back to Alice via Tanami Road. We have a 2002 XC 21' KC000169 which we are confident about getting us to the destination. We are also Ulysses Club members (without bikes) going to the AGM at Townsville and then on to Cooktown and around the gulf.Hope you have a beer or 2 and we can share a tassie wine.regardsRod and Judy
Chris
Hi Rod and Judy!Good to hear from you. I think it is likely we will still be here in late June or July (although open to flexible arrangement, dependent on the Dept of Education's filling of a position). We would love to see you, with or without Tassie wine (but preferably with!).We have a friend from Darwin who will be leading a group of 25 local Ulysses bikers to Townsville. I think he said there would be 5000 of them there...?CheersChris
alan and lynda j
Hi Rod and JudyJust read your reply re the trip to the north-west of WA and inparticular your proposed route through the Tanami, it would appear that it is NOT recommended to call into the The Rabbit Flat roadhouse for fuel if it is closed. I have heard/read a few tales over the last year or so regarding the operator(Bruce) regarding that he doesn't like to be disturbed on his days off. The last time i checked he was only opened on Friday, Sat, Sun and monday's.There is a 'track log'/trip planner in the 2005 November issue of Overlander that you may find helpful if you haven't seen it already.I look forward to hearing about your trip via the Tanami and Gibb River track's on your return as its one of the 'things to do' for us within the next year or two, including crossing the Donohue/Plenty Hwy to 'The Alice' and then onto the Kimberley via the 'serpent road'.Good luck on the trip, safe travels.Regards,Alan
dazmit
Last year we came through on the Tanami and Rabbit Flat was now open 7 days a week as he has some family help.If you treat Bruce nicely and don't complain about the fuel price he is a nice guy to have a yarn with.cheersDarryl
lynda and len
Hi Chris and ValWe are hoping to get up that way in July/August love to catch up again if we get that far. Not sure how far we will get leaving home end june a bit late but better late then never. Hope to catch up soonLynda and Len
Chris
Great Lynda and Len! We will let the forum know if we are moving on from here so you know before you get here whether or not we are still here then... Val is acting headteacher at the local school, filling a back-filled vacancy (where the current head is acting in a promotion position in Darwin). How long we are here is dependent on how long it takes the Government to advertise and recruit to the position permanently. Val has really retired, but does these jobs every now and again. We need the money for the new Top Ender on order! Chris
