  3. Hi, Deb & I had an axle replaced with a heavier duty one on a single axle Kedron some years ago before doing the Mereenie Loop. The company that replaced it failed to double nut the U-bolts. We were about 10 klms from Glen Helen Gorge and looking forward to the bitumen after more than 200 klms of bad corrugations when I felt a tugging from behind. When we looked in the mirrors we saw the van going from side to side and tipping at about 45 degrees. Thankfully we were only doing approx 50 kph when this happened and we pulled up safely. When we got out the left side wall was buckled outwards, the door was open and the inside of the van looked like a bomb had gone off. The axle had moved back and the wheel jammed in the wheel arch almost flipping the van. The chassis was bent & twisted and bits and pieces of springs & cans of food were scattered down the road behind us. In short the U-bolts must have come loose and the centre pin broke allowing the axle to slide back. The result was the van was a right off after being trucked all the way back to Kedron's yard. I'm only telling you this so you are aware that this can cause serious damage and needs close inspection before taking it back on the road. As a mechanic I don't think this will be a too much of a problem for your husband. Good luck and happy travels.
  4. Hi David, For your info the gas heater should get about 50 hours of heating from a 9kg cylinder. That's from the figures supplied by the manufacturer as we haven't tested it for long periods. We've got the control beside the bed so we turn it off once in bed and snug, then turn it on again before getting up in the morning. If used in this manner it's not going to use much gas at all. It works for us like this anyway. The unit is a Truma brand distributed by Dometic I believe. They have been used in Europe for many years so they are tried and proven. As Debbie said earlier, the choice between deisel & gas is an individual thing. Good luck with it. Glen...
  5. Hi David we have the gas heater - I think it is Truma - Glen opted for the gas due to how quiet they are (people have complained about having a clicking noise with the diesel), maintenance free and fume free (fumes are only a problem to people outside) and I think it was a smidge cheaper. Glen did have a third gas bottle put on the drawbar due to having the gas heater installed but since then has acquired a tinny so the third gas bottle is going so as to make room for the boat motor or something along those lines. We travelled up to NT recently where we had some stops in some frosty areas (Roma) and I love my gas heater. Like Rod, we also had to insulate the piping due to how hot it gets. So I do believe it is just a personal preference regarding using the diesel or gas. I imagine if we are camped in an isolated area for an indefinite period of time, I would have to take into consideration of where our next gas fill up would be. Good luck Deb & Glen B
  6. This thread is now closed. The development a suitable thread for new products as mentioned previously we be discussed by the committee further down the track when time permits.
  7. Hi Rod & Mavis so totally envious - hopefully we will get to see them in the not too distant future:) Have been following your travels - keep it flowing. Cheers Deb B
  8. Hi Reece the following link to quite a lengthy forum discussion should answer your question. />http://www.kedronownersgroup.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1277&st=0&p=5194&hl=+engel%20+&fromsearch=1&#entry5194 Cheers Deb B
  9. Hi Rick, I replaced mine with a very bright LED from Springers. It's a bayonet fitting with lots of little leds around the head of it. Not sure how much it cost, but it was well worth it.
  10. Thanks Chris, Have printed it out and will be taking it with us this weekend when we begin our journey north. Look forward to the full report when it's complete.
  11. Safe travels and look forward to the trip report. Cheers Deb and Glen
  12. Hi Rick & Lea, I think this is what the Hillbilly cookware is made of and Shirley makes the best scones in them. Other than that I don't have any knowledge of them. They would definitely be lighter than cast iron. We look forward to sampling the results sometime. Cheers, Glen PS - Maybe in Adelaide. Cheers Deb B
  13. Hi everyone, Some good points by all above. Thanks for the feedback, we will discuss this matter over the weekend and hopefully find a solution that meets the needs of this Group and is ultimately helpful to all parties involved. Cheers, Glen KOG Committee

  17. Hi I have noticed that some members are having issues with replying to posts - ending up with a quote of the original thread. I have figured it out - sort of. When replying don't hit the reply button next to the multi quote button directly under the posting you are replying to. Only use the big reply button at the very top right hand side at the start of the thread or at the very bottom right hand side. Hope this clears it up for everyone otherwise send me an email and I will try to steer you in the right direction. Cheers Deb B
  18. Hi Kerry & Mal We haven't stayed at the caravan park, but have visited the wineries in the area and the one I remember most was across the road from the Bjelke Petersen Dam. We stopped for a meal and wine tasting (as you do) and they also have theme weekends which sounded really interesting. Tolley & Gayleen Streaky Bay would have to be one of our favourite places. Can't remember the name of the caravan park we stayed at or if there was any more than one, but it was right on the beach and had a kiosk that served up the best meals and you could bring your wine/beer to have with dinner - it was very casual but very enjoyable. Another favourite on the Eyre Peninsula was Port Lincoln National Park. Cheers Deb B
  19. Hi Chris & Val, glad to hear all is well. Nice to be in the warmer weather I bet as it would be getting quite chilly back home by now. I bet you're enjoying the peace and quiet while Val is out doing his thing (mentoring that is). Stay safe, Glen...

We are going to be at the Island Reach Campground, Imbil 27-29 May 2011. We will organise a dinner at the hotel for the Saturday night most probably - will confirm closer to the date. If interested could you please book yourself in - details can be found in the attached link. Just mention that you are with the Kedron Group. They have hot showers and flushing toilets. Pigs and campfires are welcome. I think they also allow pets, but just check when booking in. Don't forget the kayak/canoe or you can hire from the campground. />http://www.ircamping.com.au/ Cheers Deb & Glen
  21. Hehe - you're asking me who just spent an hour trying to figure out why Gary & Kaye couldn't add their "pm" and 'add a friend" to their avatar to eventually figure out - you don't see your own as you wouldn't pm or add yourself as a friend - DUH!!!

What is the purpose of them?? I think if you think they should be blocked, go for it - w...

  22. Good morning well some of you have checked out the new look before I was even out of bed. As you have discovered it still needs some adjustments - will get to this when work stops interfering with my life Cheers Deb B
  23. Hi Trish & Carl, I and a group of friends will be out that way early August if all the tracks dry out and the roads open up after major repairs. We'll be leaving our vans at Birdsville, going down the Birdsville Track, back up the Oodnadatta Track and across the Simpson Desert. I don't know where you plan on accessing Lake Eyre but I can recommend heading out from Maree to Muloorina Station where you can camp beside a beautiful bore fed lake for $10/night. There's a flushing toilet there but that's about it and the birdlife is amazing. You drive north of here for about 40 klms past South Lake Eyre and arrive at the southern end of North Lake Eyre. The tide should be in by then as there are still flood waters heading that way I'm told. It's pretty isolated out there so take some form of emergency communication or an EPIRB at least. Have a great trip and let us know how you go.
  24. HI Ian, I'm not sure about other brands but the Teac (19" TV/DVD) we bought 12 months ago required a heavier 12V lead which I acquired from Springers. The standard one allowed too much voltage drop and some of the functions didn't work as they should. They may have fixed the problem since then, but if you have any issues this may be the cause. We also had a set top box on our previous set but requires two lots of tuning in channels, two remotes and more wires. The Teac scans both analogue and digital and is simple to use. Hope this helps, Glen...
  25. Hi Kevin & Kim welcome to the group. Everyone will be very interested in what layout you go with so please keep us updated. Cheers
