  1. hello Steve and Kez, I know this is not the place to be commercial but, in this case, I may be helping a fellow KOG member. We are in the recruitment business and we are probably the biggest supplier of people into all the A&TSI communities on the Cape and around the Gulf. We occasionally do a bit in WA and NT. We supply professional people mainly CEO's , CFO's, accountants, store managers etc., So, if you like working with the communities..... Regards Colin
  2. Hello, Orders for the spare wheel covers have now been placed. Those who have ordered can expect to hear from Helen soon. I look forward to getting mine. Regards Colin
  3. Hello John and thank you for your comment. I have heard some good reports on the Ironman 4x4 gear and I note that they do a huge business with mining companies around the world. There is so much gear out there and ten times as many opinions. Thanks again. Regards Colin
  4. Hello, Has anyone had experience with Ironman 4x4 gear, particularly shockers and suspension gear? Your opinions will be appreciated. Regards Colin PS. It is belting down rain up here in FNQ. Expecting 700 mm according to BOM.
  5. Hello Outback Way Travellers, Tomorrow, Wednesday is the closing day for Outback Way spare wheel covers. Regards Colin
  6. Russ and Sue, Another good story which has me green with envy! Kind regards Colin

    NW WA trip

Hello Muz, For Gayleen and me there is no contest between the two routes. The GRR is the go. We traversed it in the opposite direction in 2011 and along with Cape York it remains our favourite trip. In fact, after we complete the Outback Way in late June it is our intention to head north and cross the GRR again. Take your time, it is not a race, travel to the side destinations such as El Questro, Home Valley Station (excellent), Drysdale River Station, Mt Elizabeth Station, Charnley River Station and so on. It is wonderful country. Take it easy and your rig will handle it easily. Preparation and daily checks are important. We lost a hub cap from the van and we had one drawer latch come loose and break. Those catches need to be fixed in place with some silicon. Do it and you too will have it in your favourites folder. Regards Colin
  8. Hello Sid, Thanks once again for the info. And, that is fast service with your CD. I note that you completed the trip in late September. One of the reasons I am planning an early June start is to hopefully encounter freshly graded roads. My experience to date with remote councils etc., is that they get onto the roads early in the season and generally only do them once. By seasons end they are showing all the signs of the traffic that has gone before you. Being independent and self contained is the great benefit of Kedron ownership. We have checked the availability of water and fuel which are really the only limiting factors and both are readily available. The water can be a bit ordinary, according to reports, but at least it is wet! I'll keep in touch. Regards Colin
  9. Hello Sid, Thanks for your post and your information about your CD on the Outback Way. I have just been on your website and ordered GN104. I'm looking forward to mseeing it. Sid, any advice you have about overnight stopping places, or any other matter, would be most welcome. We will have 14 vans travelling. Regards Colin
  10. Hello Barney, It must be your lucky day! Yesterday I closed the list of Outback Wayers as we had reached our maximum number of 14 vans. Read my post of yesterday. However, yesterday, one of the fourteen had to pull out for family reasons so a vacancy for one was created. You are the first to express an interest so you are in!! Welcome to you Grant and Jane. You have supplied your email address so I will contact you today and send you information to bring you up to speed. Regards Colin
  11. Hello Everyone, The Outback Way group size now stands at 14 caravans. We have decided that the group has now reached its maximum managable size. As a consequence the group is now closed to new applicants. However, we will start a wait list of any further applicants and they will be dealt with on a first come first served basis. There is the possibility that for a wide variety of reasons, some of the fourteen applicants may not be able to make the trip. In that event the first on the wait list will be added and so on. The interest in this trip has greatly exceeded my expetations. It is shaping up as a great trip. The sight of thirteen Kedrons and one Coromal out there will be spectacular. It is only 136 days until we cross the start line at Winton. Regards to all Colin
  12. G'day Dennis and Colleen, Thank you for your good wishes. It is very thoughtful of both of you. It is shaping up to be a good trip. Like minded people doing what we love in a beautiful country. Can't get much better than that! Regards Colin
  13. Hello Peter, Welcome to the group. I have sent you a PM. Regards Colin
  14. Hello Mal, The ninteen guests for Sunday lunch have been and gone and we arer both still alive to tell the tale. It was a good day! Mal, with your sums you are correct, well, almost. I had made a simple error in my formula for the sum cell which has now been corrected. The correct figure is 1,187 km. I have attached a revised edition to this response. Thanks for the advice Mal. It was a good spot! Kind regards Colin
  15. G'day Russ and Sue, That is a good read. I can relate to your nine months, seven day routine and the toll (excuse the pun) it takes on you. In a former life I worked seven twelve hour days from Easter to the end of the first week in October. I did that for seven years. Poor Jazz! Jazz could have fitted in somewhere. Those temperatures are unbearable. I note that yesterday it was 49 degrees in Birdsville! Any news on that matter? We have resident Curlews here in Cairns. We had two friends from New York staying. Before arrival they had read all the Bill Bryson books on Oz and were terrified to touch anything. On their first night the curlews started and the two of them flew out of the guests room saying "What's that? What's happening? Wuzzers! Enjoy your travels and I wish you mild weather and a following breeze. Colin
  16. Hello Mal, I am in for a busy day today and tomorrow (19 people for lunch) on things other than caravans but as soon as I can I will run the pencil over my distances and additions etc. Pity that you will not be able to join. It is shaping up as a great trip. Regards Colin
  17. Hello Everyone, I have established contact with Helen Lewis, the General Manager of the Outback Way. Helen has been very helpful in getting a glitch corrected on the Outback Way website. I have told Helen our story. We will keep in contract with each other and Helen has expressed an interest in putting us on, or connecting us to, the Outback Way Facebook site. Our thrip with what now stands at 13 vans would provide a good PR vehicle for both The Outback Way and Kedron Caravans. The glitch on the website that has been fixed relates to the downloading of the Outback Way brochure. If you have not got one of these I recommend you download one at http://www.outbackway.org.au While you are in the site have a look at the spare wheel cover. I will certainly get one but there may be some benefit in a bulk order as these covers are made to order and not carried in stock. Regards Colin
  18. Hi Geg and Cathy, Welcome to the travelling Outback Wayers! I have sent you a PM seeking your contact details and have provided you with my details. It is best for the admin and planning of this trip to be completed eslewhere rather than on this site. Regards Colin
  19. Hello everyone, This thread has been quiet in the Forum for a little while. However, do not think it has fallen in to a hole. Far from it! We have twelve interested travellers from whom I have collected direct contact details. All the action, and there is plenty of it, is happening "behind the scenes" so to speak. However, if you have an interest in joining this trip it is not too late BUT it will be too late soon. So, if you have an interest please say so now, before it is too late. It will be a great KOG experience and a lot of fun. Regards Colin
  20. I agree with Richard. We have travelled the GRR, the Savannah Way, Cape York twice and many, many km on formed gravel roads around Queensland all with the WDH torsion bars fitted. I take them off on broken ground, some creek and river crossings - areas I suspect will require considerable articulation of the hitch. I have not damaged any equipment. I reckon it is all bound up in common sense and judgement. Further, many sealed roads around this country are bumpier and more uneven than many outback gravel roads. Regards Colin
  21. Jk, If they have it it will be in building supplies and not cleaning supplies section. It is used to clean cement, timber etc and is often used by plumbers, I believe. If you have trouble go online and have it delivered. Other hardware stores would be worth a try. Regards Colin
  22. Hello Reece, CT18 Superwash (probably what Rick is referring to) applied as Rick says. Also, Diggers Rust and Stain Remover (from Bunnings) is excellent. It is oxalic acid based so plently of water when you wash it off. They both do the trick. Regards Colin
  23. Hello Koggers, The cover story in today's Weekend Australian Review is titled "The Great Divide". It is about the WA border. It will be of interest to those who have an interest in the Great Central Road. We will be passing through some of the areas discussed in the article. I must admit I was not aware previously of the significant influence the Pope, the Spanish and the Portugese had on determining the border. You learn something every day. For those who do not have the Oz I have pdf'd the article and it is attached. Happy reading. Colin
  24. Yep, I agree. Where can I get one?
  25. Neville, i am sure you have written that with your tongue in your cheek, so to speak. As the person who started this thread by inviting others to join me along The Outback Way, i feel compelled to respond to you just in case your tongue was not in your cheek. In three years Gayleen and I have towed our van almost 65,000 km around this beautiful country. Every km has been alone except for the company of our two poodles. We have travelled many of the remote areas and loved every minute of it. In starting this thread I thought it would be fun to do such a journey in the company of other Koggers . It had nothing to do with my lacking a sense of adventure. I have had many adventures in my life and most have been more exciting and adventurous than driving along the Outback Way. Also, there may be Koggers who are just starting the Kedron part of their life who would enjoy doing a remote trip in company. It would be a confidence builder especially if they have a reticent spouse. You should join us and contribute your knowledge to the group. Incidentally, many of the twelve who have shown interest are among the more adventurous people who contribute to this web site. We have not experienced a trip in company before. We are looking forward to the shared experience. Kind regards Colin
