  1. I have a Silverado which I love but I am now and have been for decades a great fan of the Landcruiser. I acknowledge the comment by Andrew about discussion of apparent complications with the American trucks such as the Silverado. That is to be expected as they are relatively new in the caravan tug stakes here in Oz. In a couple of years all these complications will be sorted as more people buy them and use them towing caravans. The Landcruiser has been in that role for decades and as a result the add on's and operating techniques are well settled. BTW, I started this thread about 18 months ago and it has had 10,500 "views" so there is obviously a lot of curiosity about these yank tanks! Regards to all, Colin
  2. Chris, many thanks. Just been added to my bucket list. Maybe 2017 winter. Regards Colin
  3. I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with Lion batteries in their van? Regards Colin
  4. I and D, I have just completed that exercise. You cannot buy the seals (gaskets) alone. You have to buy the whole lock. I removed all my locks, cleaned the surface and then replaced them. On my van I have 12 such locks. The first six I use Sickaflex (?Spelling) and then swapped over to silicon. The latter was the easiest. They actually look better than with the black rubber. Regards Colin
  5. Merry Christmas and all the very best for 2016 to my fellow Kedron owners and to the Gall family and their staff at Kedron. Let's look forward to another great caravaning year. Regards to all Colin
  6. Petdav30, while I have no expertise in this I do know that you will be in good company with that set-up as that is the same as the vast majority of Kedron owners. The 200 Series is a great vehicle as is the tandem XC-3. Regards Colin
  7. I am with Neville and Kay so to speak. At night, when we are on 240 v supply, I go to the front boot and turn the battery charger off and with it its fan. This is a different switch to the 240/12v switch. That leaves the 240v supply to the 240v GPO's in the van and allows the use of aircon, microwave etc., even though the batteries are not being charged.
  8. Thanks Tony, I sent an email to Diesel Care asking if they had a kit for the Silverado. Their very prompt reply is below: Hi Colin, We do not have a bracket kit for the Silverado. However we can supply you with a filter and the fitting required to fit it up. You will just need to find a mounting point in the engine bay. Regards Gavin Bradford Director Diesel Care Australia Pty Ltd I am going to look into getting a bracket designed and fabricated. Might not be easy here. I reckon it should be quality stainless Steel. Great news about your soon to be adopted baby, a GMC I believe! You wont be sorry. Regards Colin
  9. Hello, I refer to Tony's comment. Tony and Nev both recommend a pre-filter at 30 micron. In the link Tony provides to Dieselcare they recommend a post filter at about 2 microns? Any comment? BTW, thank you all for your contributions. I definitely will get a second filter fitted but Cairns is probably not the place to do it. A point of interest to Silverado owners. I have just done a 850 km return trip to Townsville from Cairns. Fuel use was 13 L/100km including city driving in both places. With a 130 litre tank capacity that gives me a range of 1,000 km. Colin
  10. Hello Koggers, The Chevrolet Silverado is gaining numbers as a tow vehicle for our Kedron vans. I would like to add a second fuel filter to my Silverado. I have spoken to one diesel specialist who said that under the hood room is a problem. He also said that if the Isuzu motor has an electric fuel pump there is a problem in that the pump does not have sufficient grunt to pump the fuel through two filters. I thought I would ask in this forum if any other Silverado owners have filled a second fuel filter? Regards Colin
  11. Hello, There is an interesting article on the reliability of common-rail diesels in the current issue of Caravan &motorhome On Tour. The Isuzu D-Max (Bosch System) gets a good report. Regards Colin
  12. My diesel heater tank cap split just recently so I glued the split and it is perfect again. Regards Colin
  13. Merv, Mine are 18 inch and I paid $500 per tyre. Sounds expensive but if they give 100,000 km then they are good value. BTW, the vehicle had Wranglers on it and they were downright dangerous in the wet on the blacktop. Not good when you live in Far North Queensland. Colin
  14. Hi Merv and Doug, Hope you don't mind me sticking my nose in here. I have used MT ATZ and ATZ P3's for a few years and I reckon they are a great tyre. I have used them on my Landcruiser and Top Ender. On the Landcruiser I was getting 100,000 km out of them and much more, of course, on the van. The only downside was the noise on the blacktop, especially at lower speeds. Because of the noise factor I have fitted MT STZ's on the Silverado and they have proven to be fantastic so far. They have been on there for the last 30,000 km. very happy with them, on and off road. Regards Colin
  15. Grant's Memorial Service on Wednesday last was a service that he would have enjoyed. Together with ten other Koggers, Gayleen and I attended the service in Taree. Jane was strong and composed and I feel was delighted to see her Kedron mates there. The Memorial service had a large attendance reflecting the regards that Grant enjoyed in the Taree community. It was a happy service, a celebration of a good life. Family and friends painted a great picture of Grant and his life. The music chosen was typically Grant: Fun, Fun, Fun by the Beach Boys, On Top of the World by the Carpenters and finally Always Look On The Bright Side of Life by Monty Python. Grant will be sadly missed. RIP Grant.
  16. Thanks Mayzee and Tony, I have Googled all this stuff, some of it is good especially the ABC stuff but I cannot find anything on camp spots etc etc. However, it is one I want to travel as it is remote and "it is there'! Talking to the lady at one of trhe stores she said "You can just stop and camp anywhere". Sounds good to me.
  17. Hello Everyone, I am thinking of driving the Sandover Highway with the TE attached in May next year. I am doing some research but there is little available. I have searched both this and the Members Forum. Nothing. Anyone been there? All advice will be appreciated. BTW, I will be travelling east to west as I want to do the Tanami as well. Regards Colin
  18. Good read Chris. Makes me want to do it! Regards Colin
  19. We have a light weight kettle that whistles when it boils and a coffe plunger. Cheap, easy to use and better coffee than the pods.
  20. Hello Ian, I have used 6 tonne UniGlide Drop-on McHitch and associated gear sitting in my garage shelf looking for an owner. It is surplus to my requirements. It came off my Top Ender. If you are interested I would do a great deal for you. Send me a Pm. Regards Colin
  21. There is a thread in the members section on Security Door Handles. It includes the contact details for an aluminium one. Regards Colin
  22. Hi Steve and Kez, I am familiar with Farina and their flag station. It would have been wonderful there on ANZAC Day. Regards Colin
  23. Sullie, I have a TE and a Silverado so I am interested in your comment. Any chance you can supply a photo of the cracks and exactly where they are on your van? The bit about the Chevy "being so rigid" seems to me to lack logic. The van and the truck are joined together with a fully articulating hitch! Regards Colin
  24. Great photos Dennis and Colleen. It was freezing overnight here as well. Cairns airport recorded only 14 degrees this morning. Not to worry, it is 26 degrees here now and sunny. Regards Colin
  25. Merv, Di, Lea, Rick and Tony, it was a special day and I am pleased you enjoyed it. Regards Colin
