  1. Hi Tony, Yes, it worked for us as we had a similar problem when travelling in WA, especially the Gibb River Road. The drawer stayed on the bed no problems and just put a towel or something on top, similar to what Deb said. Our regards and hope all is well with you too Tony. We are up near Calliope and its been raining for about a week now *sigh*. (Still, beats working !!).
  2. Another tip is to take the whole drawer out (as it can be quite heavy and inertia of bumps increases this) and secure it on the bed. Once stopped just slide back in. Ann
  3. We had our ATV2 built in January 2012 and elected to have the 'new' suspension Kedron are using on the Cross Country 3 - Coil spring, dual shock trailing arm suspension.
  4. There was some discussion on the Caravaners Forum on this topic:- />http://caravanersforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=23525&hilit=tagging+electrical+cords
  5. You may find this of interest. This is from the Thetford Australia website in Maintenance Tips section: "Maintenance tips for your toilet The waste tank seal, the automatic pressure release vent seal and the cap seal must be cleaned regularly. When the toilet is being used frequently, monthly cleaning is generally sufficient. We advise cleaning the seals and valve blade with Thetford Bathroom Cleaner. Note! Never use household cleaners (Solvents or other powerful cleaning agents). These may cause permanent damage to the seals and other toilet components. For cleaning your toilet: Squirt Thetford Bathroom Cleaner into the toilet bowl. Flush the bowl with water and wipe down the rest of the toilet with a damp cloth. Tip! For a really shining toilet, dry it with a soft dry cloth after cleaning. Thoroughly clean the seals and valve blade, using Thetford Seal Lubricant and wipe them over with a cloth or a piece of toilet paper. Repeat the above operation if the seal and blade are dirty or if opening and closing the blade is difficult. Note! Never use Vaseline or any vegetable oil. These may cause leakage. When the toilet is not being used for a long period, it is advisable to clean the seals and then coat them lightly with Thetford Seal Lubricant. This will ensure that they remain in good condition (supple). N.B. The valve blade seal is a part of the toilet that is subject to wear. Depending on the extent and manner of maintenance, after a certain period the seal will lose quality and must be replaced. Back to top." We use Olive oil to lubricate the rubber around the blade seal and have done so without any problems. Giving the cassette a good soak, as suggested in previous posts, empty and let dry out also helps reduce any odour and 'plaque' build up.
  6. I have had a look at the Allianz policy supplied by Ken Tame & Assoc, I could not find any specific mention of any cover for damage from contaminated fuel. It does state they will cover reasonable towing costs to nearest repairer in the event of mechanical or electrical breakdown. You could ring them on (03) 9853 5555 to know more. A friend picked up some bad diesel fuel at Blackall a few years back in his TD LC100. He had to have the tanks drained and the service station met the costs after he supplied them with a repair receipt. The local NRMA was aware of the incidences having been called out to a number of vehicles with fuel problems from the same service station. Having said that, it would be a benefit if a policy did cover this - as indicated in Peter & Tracy's 29/3/12 post. Maybe the insurer takes the matter up with the fuel outlet in that case.
  7. We too are an associate member of CMCA and arranged insurance through Ken Tame & Associates. As mentioned in previous posts,he used to underwrite for Lumleys but now he is will Alliance. Ken Tame & Ass (KTA) will only insure you if they do the van and the tow vehicle. Our premium was about $1657 for around about $150,000. You can download a proposal form off KTA website or CMCA website and they insist on some photos of the van and vehicle including two photos of the interior of the tow vehicle plus evidence of purchase price of the items or a valuation so there is a little bit of 'mucking around' to arrange the insurance in the first instance. You need to quote your CMCA's associate membership number as well. Previously we were with NRMA and they wanted $2,200 for the van and $893 for the vehicle.
  8. Hi Evo, Check out thread http://www.kedronownersgroup.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1512&st=0&p=6625&hl=+diesel%20+heaters&fromsearch=1&#entry6625 started on 22/9/11 under Heaters Diesel or Gas Heaters. Use search at top of page if this link above doesn't work.
  9. Hi Geoff, I also read somewhere that Kratzmann's Caravans have a caravan security system which includes a PIR with 12V backup and said to withstand the rigours of outback travel. Good luck.
  10. Hi Geoff & Pam, The January 2012 issue of the CMCA magazine 'The Wanderer' has an article on a motion sensor light. It costs about $39 and is available from www.narva.com.au or call 1800 113 443. The article states 'Designed specifically for a range of exterior applications and for ease of installation. Narva's new awning lamps are pre-wired, surface mountable and include a stylish snap together housing with a virtually unbreakable polycarbonate lens. Using the later high output 9-33 multi-voltage LED technology, the lamps feature the benefits of bright white LED light output coupled with long life performance and ultra low current drawn'. It goes on to say there are three options available with the third option incorporation a PIR (Passive Infrared Sensor), it can be adjusted to remain illuminated between 1 second and 1 minute. 'When wiring the PIR Awning Lamp, a 3 -way switch can be used to allow the lamp to be turned on or off permanently as well as switching the señor on separately to illuminate the lamp only when the sensor is activated. Available from leading automotive, recreational vehicle and caravan outlets or go to website address above' You would have to check if it works also on 12V if you do 'freedom camping'.
  11. We reviewed some of the campspots mentioned above plus others when we did our trip - here http://www.lets-getaway.com/reviews-map_SSA.htm. The info may be of some help.
  12. Hi Chris, After - south for summer and north for winter from now on.
  13. Hi Chris, I also enjoyed reading your report. Must put it on our list of 'things to do'.
  14. Rusty D I'm not sure if your Winegard aerial has one but they now have a Wingman add-on. (I am not sure about horizontal & vertical signals). />http://www.winegard.com/sensar/index.php
  15. Good one. Got the endorphins going this morning.
  16. Hi Chris & Val, I too will look forward to reading your trip report, especially the Savannah Way, as it was too wet to go that way on our last trip. Safe journey. You will notice the change in temperature as you come south!
  17. You're a very sick man, Tony.
  18. There were 'help' documents in the block under Public Forum but most of these are either outdated with the new/updated forum format or for some reason did not transfer over to the new format and won't open. It does say photos should not be no more than 800 x 600.
  19. Blackie & Elle .... it looks great. Warmer than Brisbane too.
  20. Richard, We did the Gibb River Road last year from Kununurra to Napier Downs then cut through to Tunnel Creek and onto Fitzroy Crossing. Our vehicle is a LC100 TD with a long range fuel tank. We had no problem with fuel but at Imintji I think it was diesel only. The road was a bit corrugated after a late wet season. We had to wait in Kununurra for a week for the GRR to open and there was a fair bit of road work going on. A couple of tips, sticky tape the lids on jars as they undo themselves and pack jars in the fridge in a container in case they spill. Check the D shackle bolts as they shake loose/ unwind and have a couple of spares. We loved the trip and no doubt you will too. For fuel and distances have a look at - Kimberley Australia
  21. Hi Herman, We installed a Xantrex 1800W pure sine wave inverter wired to all power points when we had our van built. A simple switch was installed inside the van to switch over to 240V inverter for TV, computer etc. It was a bit expensive but worked well for us.
  22. We have a rubber aerial and it works fine here in Brisbane at least. I am not sure if this is correct but a fellow traveller traveller informed me there is a screw at the back of the radio that needs to be turned to tune the radio into the aerial. I haven't had to do this but it may be worth a look/try.
  23. Probably all away for the Easter/ Anzac Day weekend. We purchased the Full River brand.
  24. Hi Dick, Have a look at the thread on 'How much do Kedron's weigh' on the Public Forum for some other comments. We have recently sold a 17' 6" internal 7'6" wide XC 2004 with ATV axels with 4 batteries, 4 panels, 4 x 60 litre water tanks, shower & toilet with 230 litre vitrofrigo fridge. A friend was having a 17' internal built and weighed around the same time and he was borderline for tow capacity of his TD Prado. We had a TD Prado and ended up buying a LC100 TD because we decided to go an extra water tank, extra solar panel and extra battery. We took it over a weigh bridge fully loaded up, full water tanks and gas bottles and with wood on the A frame and it weighed 3270 kg. Ball weight 320 kg. There are not too many Kedron owners with Prados. According to the Toyota website the 5 door TD Prado has a towing capacity of 2500 kg braked. (You might get away with it with one of the new Prado TD 3 door models which states it has a tow capacity of 3000kg). After an 8 month trip to WA we found we just wanted some more space and have a 18'6" internal ATV on order as we plan to travel most of the time upon retirement later this year. This is just our experience.
